VPTC ( Vintage Prequel Trilogy Collection)
« on: February 14, 2006, 09:28 PM »
Since the VOTC figures were such a hit, why not VPTC?
Here are my ideas.

Phantom Menace.
SA Maul.
SA Qui-gon
SA Obi-wan
SA Padme

Attack of the Clones:
SA Jango Fett with removable helmet
SA Mace Windu (Soft Goods Cape?)
SA Clone Trooper( Clone wars rehash with rifle)
SA Jedi (Variations)

Revenge of the Sith:
SA Anakin (Evolutions?)
SA BARC Trooper
SA Barris Offee
SA Aayla Secura?

Just some thoughts.

Yup, I'd buy just about every one of those.  Some of them could be accomplished by just tossing the evolutions figure into a VPTC package, those I'd pass on for an opener but still may buy a carded one.

They could take the new biker scout and paint the BARC camo on it...

 :D

You know, I have to believe we're going to see PT 'vintage' cards in this new VTSC line.  It is the 'saga collection.'  I don't know.  I would hope to see some, but here's the dream list:

TPM:
SA Qui Gon Jinn
SA Darth Maul
Padme Handmaiden
SA Obi Wan Kenobi

AOTC
SA Jango Fett
SA Battle Droid
SA Yoda
SA Mace Windu

ROTS
SA Senate Duel Palpatine
SA Anakin Skywalker
SA General Grievous (separating arms)
SA 501st Clone Trooper

Let's see... last time this topic came up, this is what I wanted:

TPM
* Qui Gon Jinn
* Darth Maul
* Obi-Wan Kenobi
* Mace Windu

AOTC
* Obi-Wan Kenobi
* Padme Amidala
* Count Dooku
* Anakin Skywalker

ROTS
* Anakin Skywalker
* Palpatine/Sidious
* Ep3 Clone Trooper
* General Grievous

OK, granted this was before RotS was even released.  I guess my list needs some updating.  Would look like this I guess:

TPM
* Qui Gon Jinn
* Darth Maul  Queen Amidala
* Obi-Wan Kenobi
* Mace Windu

I can live with the Evo Maul, I guess at this point I'd rather see a new Queen Amidala mixed in there.  Pick one of the outfits they haven't done yet and give here a cool soft-goods approach.

AOTC
* Obi-Wan Kenobi
* Padme Amidala (Arena Battle)
* Count Dooku Jango Fett
* Anakin Skywalker (Peasant Disguise)

Again, I can skip Dooku because of the Evo set version.  I'd replace him with Jango and cause we need a really really nice one.  I think Anakin (Jedi) is covered by the Evo set, so I'd like the vPTC Anakin to be the Peasant version to make up for that awful "saber-in-arm" version we got.  Give him lots of articualtion and a soft-goods poncho.   :)

ROTS
* Anakin Skywalker  Anakin (Darth Vader)
* Palpatine/Sidious
* Ep3 Clone Trooper (501st specifically)
* General Grievous

Wow, lots of changes here.
- I love the Evo Anakin, so I don't need a another one, but on the other hand, I'd love a SA version of "Sith Eyes Anakin.  Take the Evo Anakin and give him the Sith Eyes weather look and that'd be sweet.
- Palpatine I'd keep, but I'd make him more of a Chancellor Palpy with new cloth robe instead of the "Evil" Darth Sidious head like the Evo set had.
- The Clone I'd keep, but I'd make him a 501st like others have mentioned.

Yeah... those would work out real nice.   :)

How can the word Vintage be associated in anyway with the prequel figures? It's an oxymoron.

Because calling it the "Prequel Trilogy Collection Done in the Style of the Vintage Kenner Star Wars Line" is far too long for the title of a line?  Yes, technically I supposed it should be called something like the PTKHC (Prequel Trilogy Kenner Homage Collection), but that's a lame title too.

I guess I just see it as the same way a store like Ragstock can sell "vintage" clothing even though the clothes were made 2 months ago.  We know that they aren't real "vintage" clothes, meaning old, but rather vintage, meaning in the style of an older era.

Two questions Jeff in regards to your updated list:

1.  Would your 501st suggestion be all new tooling or a repaint of the #41 clone?  Seems to be a waste to retool the ROTS clone.  Are you just looking for a really cool cardback?   :D

2.  RE:  Jango Fett - can one simply repaint the VOTC Boba to accurately recreate Jango?  Or are there other differences that involve molds?

Easy - packaging.

Just curious... is this really a posting for SA prequel figures or people want to pay extra for the fancy card and star case?  Personally, I just as soon see some nice SA prequel figures in the style of pilot Obi for the basic figure price and forget about paying $10+ for the packaging.  If we are just talking about SA prequel figures, (otherwise, I'm really not interested in paying $10 + for any prequel figures) Chewie's list works for me:

Phantom Menace
SA Maul
SA Qui Gon
SA Obi Wan
SA Battle Droid

Attack of the Clones
SA Jango Fett with removable helmet
SA Mace Windu (Agen Kolar type cape)
SA Clone Trooper (Clone Wars rehash with rifle and removable helmet)
SA Arena Padme

Revenge of the Sith
SA Emperor (Senate Duel)
SA BARC Trooper
SA General Grievous
SA Super Battle Droid

I believe I said so the other time it came up, but as opposed to VOTC I'd not see myself ponying up $10-12 USD for a VPTC figure.

I'm sure the packaging would look great, but it's not vintage in nature.  At all.  So why bother?  With VOTC I like the redone cardbacks in pristine condition.  I like the clamshell, even if it is lower quality.  I like the figures being well done.  But I just couldn't swallow it with VPTC.  Don't encourage Hasbro :P

Not Jeff but, Jango & Boba suits are quite a bit different: especially the thigh & shin armor on Jango versus the pockets and shin tools on Boba, not to mention the boots

1. It could be the #41 sculpt of the Target RotS Clone Sculpt, that would be fine as long as it's a 501st Trooper that is NOT the #38 body.

2.  A repaint of Jango would be a good start, but I believe they had different gauntlets/legs so he might need a bit of retooling on the limbs or a new backpack.

Well, I guess I'm one of the ones who would actually wouldn't mind the "fancy card and star case" look for a few Prequel Characters.  I don't need them all done that way, but a few would be cool I think.  It'd make a cool display to have a "vintage homage" line up on the wall that went like this

12-back Vader
vOTC Vader
"vintage Homage card" Ep3 Anakin

Maybe it doesn't make sense to try it, but I think it would look cool to see a carded Ep3 "Sith Eyes" Anakin with a nice big photo on the card like the olden days, instead of that figure inside a big old space-wasting bubble on a flame background.

I just really dig the look of the vintage style cards and think they'd make a really cool display set if done right.  Of course, if you are not the kind of collector who puts up wall displays of carded figures, then I guess I can easily see why you wouldn't endorse it.

Obviously, SA figures in the basic line would be the best idea, but seeing "vintage homage" style cards for a few prequel figures would be kind of cool IMHO.  ;)

I totally agree.  Just imagine those big head shots of PT characters -- Qui Gon, Mace, Anakin, Padme -- in those vintage style cards.  Sweetness.
