is it just me or are figures getting taller?
« on: February 18, 2006, 09:08 AM »
call me crazy, but i think figures are getting taller. i don't think they would've made Bail Organa so tall if hasbro wasn't trying to raise the scale on their figs. i just strikes me odd that when you compare an Episode 1 fig to a ROTS fig there seems to be a difference, a big difference, in height. Even for female figs. call me crazy, nuts. i think hasbro i making their figs taller. (except for the ROTS Padme, the made her really small. but if they are making the figures taller, she might be the right scale!)

 ??? They might be.
But it could also be a coincidence.

Or a mistake.

I wish microladies came in different heights. A microlady is about the same size as a microman.

yeah, that doesn't make very much sense to me. i don't really use the microman and microlady, that much articulation scares me!

I'm not sure if they are really getting taller... are they?  To me I think mostly they are getting scaled better, but I could be wrong.

They are the same size, they are just scaled now. This doesn't really have to do with customizing either...

I've noticed that there are huge discrepancies in the height of some of the newer figures (stand Major Derlin up next to Gen. Veers, it's ridiculous).  I can understand that some of the characters are different heights, but even the troopers are different heights.  The new Snowtrooper is taller than Gen. Veers which I think is a little much.  As a point of reference, I put my Major Bren Derlin next to my old Saga1 Hoth Luke and they were just about the same height and the VOTC Han Solo comes up to the bottom of the cap of Gen. Veers
I do like that they are accurately scaling most of the figures (new Leia Boushh rules!), I just think that the male human characters should be close to the same height, with some obvious exceptions (Luke).
The scariest thing that I've ever seen,
Is the terrible AT-AT walking machine.
It's as big as a house on walking legs,
and whatever it steps on it crushes like eggs.

i'm not saying that they havn't done pretty good figures when it comes to height. it's really only the guys from RotS and TSC. some of them are like giants compared to the figures in the collections before them. i like my customs to actually be around the same height. in my photonovel i'm doing, the main character is an Alderaanian and i use Bail Organa and Count Dooku bodies. in some of the early shots, i have to put the main character on his knees in order for the people in the shots to line up to talk. i'm just saying.

Both Christopher Lee and Jimmy Smitts are tall guys, hence the tall figures.

Believe it or not a Microman body really does paint up well. The hard plastic really makes the paint tought on the joints. It doesn't peel when moved like Hasbro plastic does. The best is to just prime the figure, paint,  then cote with dull cote. You should do this with hasbro plastic anyway.

If you watch trends with the line they're all over with scale from day one, i wouldn't say they're upscaling anything.  There's a lot of figures that are perfectly scaled from 2005/2006 when compared to "average" characters from earlier lines...  Then you get a freak like Veers or Organa...  Neither are correct when compared to, say, VOTC Han Solo or a Clone Trooper figure, and you just sorta scratch your head in amazement that these even slipped out.
