The Saga Collection - The Stands
« on: April 19, 2006, 03:58 PM »
I wasn't sure where to put this, so I thought I'd start a new thread.  I don't know that there's necessarily much to discuss, but one aspect of this new line that I really like is the stands.  They aren't anything overly spiffy, but the fact that the movie and figure/character name are on them, and they're all uniform, kind of makes them cool to me.  Plus, it has been handy with keeping things from falling over in the displays.  Sure there are a few that they don't necessarily work with (Poggle, Foul, Obi-Wan for me), but overall I really like the stands concept.  I kind of wish I had them with/for more of my figures now.

I thought these were the greatest thing to happen to pack-ins in ages. I was wondering why this wasn't done as far back as the vintage line. It's a great idea to have the movie logo and character's name. They're nice and thin, too. The sad irony is I find I have no use for them. The way I display my figures, these things just get in the way. I like to have the characters interacting; some are in battle dioramas. The stands are useless there. Figures don't look right fighting with bases stuck to their feet. Not to mention the dimensions prohibit figures from standing close enough together. They are nice if you want to display one of each figure in a non-interacting sort of side-by-side, though.

The stands are nice and simplistic.  At the same time though, the stands and minis are a cost...  That's what bothered me about them overall.  Figures have declined in quality this year compared to last, prices went up, and while I like getting stands and minis just fine, I could do without them if it meant better figures or better prices...   :-\

The holos are goofy, but the stands are great.  And since I'd have to buy stands to display them anyway, having personalized ones included works great in my books.

I think I would have done away with the holo figure idea and just kept up those cool bases that the Collection 2 ROTS figures came with.

I like the stands, but I miss the connectivity of the Saga/OTC ones.

Yeah, I prefer the environmental stands that we got with Saga 2, OTC and ROTS.  The name tag stand is just too "collectorish" for me, and not as "toyish."

These stands are quite cool, but I also like the environment-type stands. Having missed the later Saga '03 and '04 figures and other collections, these and my ROTS stands are the first in my collection, and I really enjoy having them.

The gray plastic is a pretty good color, as if you aren't displaying your figures in some kind of diorama it doesn't really stick out too much and looks pretty decent. For collector-type shelf display they'd work great, as well. Personally though, I wish the UGH stands were a little more prevelent instead of reserved to hoarded collector's items- the vacuum-metalized silver is very cool-looking.

Overall I'd say environment-floor type stands are cooler, but these are very welcome too. I wish I could buy a dozen nameless ones (or better yet, some with character names but no specifications- imagine just a bunch of stands with things like "Obi Wan Kenobi" and "Lando Calrissian" printed on them) for my old figures, actually...

The hologram figures, however, are beginning to strike me as rubbish. They aren't garbage really, but they're boring and serve no real purpose- they seem kinda cheesy. And they really contradict their own supposed purpose; wielding weapons and being in quasi-action poses makes them useless for any kind of play as hologram communications- and the base doesn't really help that either- but the lack of paint or even solid color makes them kind of dull as figurines as well.

But I have to agree with Jesse James on a certain level, more articulation or a lower price would be a lot better than either of these items. Especially the hologram figures... shame you can't melt them down and mold new ball joints with the plastic ;)

I like the stands, but I don't really use them too much.  The holos are worthless.  And pointless.  And other adjectives.

Well - I made a chess set out of the holos - that was before I found out that they were going to change the color to red starting with the next wave...

I really like the stands, I like the fact that the movie name is on the top of the stand. I hope they put "A New Hope" on the ones for the EPIV figures and not just simply "Star Wars" - you should leave those generic stands for EU figures.

I wish the Demise of Grievous had been fully packed out like a UGH figure since it has the UGH sticker. It doesn't need to have a silver mini-holo (unless they made a unique Grievous one just for this figure, 'cause random would be a nightmare), but a silver base like the one that's coming with the Shadow Stormtrooper would have been welcome and appropriate.

I would have liked to have the Sep of the Twins figures come with bases too, just so all TSC-like carded figures could have the same extras.

Hasbro would do well do offer bags of un-named bases at StarWarsShop.com - since I am more of a shelf display type collector and not a diorama builder, I would gladly buy a bag of 25 AOTC or ROTS bases to put with the figures that didn't come with a base of some kind - not to mention all of the POTF2 and POTJ figures that didn't come with bases at all.

I agree with this idea. I need to get around to getting stands for my older figs because just the breeze cause by walking past the shelf knocks them over.

At the moment I am living with my parents while trying to get back on my feet financially so I don't have room to display alot of figs (which means less figs that get knocked over by the domino effect  ;) )

I really like the stands.  I think it adds much more to a collection when displayed.  Plus I don't have to go through naming all the characters when non-SW friends look at them.   :P

I wish they'd dump the stands and holos altogether in favor of more/better accessories.

I keep trading away all of my holos and stands simply because they are useless to me.

BTW- You canremove the characters' names with some non-acetone nail polish remover if you want generic movie stands for your other figures ;)

Thanks Spectre I was wondering if the names could be removed. As much as I like the idea of a stand packed in, I would pefer some kind of merger with Real Stands so we can get a simple non- Costly stand.
