'Cause to me, smiting is more like, **** that God does. "I'm gonna lay your soul to waste, sinner!" and all that crap. I just don't know that I like the idea of Bill Gates having that kind of power.
Whereas spite is less a physical action, and more of a mental or psychological thing, except in terms of the phrase "cut off your nose to spite your face," which is more just an expression than anything, but there must be some true story behind it, or it wouldn't have become an expression in the first place.
