I'm more of a recreational gamer than a hardcore dude too - but by the time it's all said and done I always end up with each of the big-3 consoles.  It's not about the platform for me, it's about the game.  I bought an Xbox for the variety and to start with Medal of Honor, then I bought a Gamecube (with some helpful advice from Matt on getting the good bundle) for Zelda and Resident Evil Zero, and I finished up by buying a PS2 for King's Field and the remaining Resident Evil games.

That's not to say I don't find lots of other games I want to play - but I'm not above buying all the different hardware (eventually).

I'll eventually have 'em all, too--I'm a console agnostic--but I'm a hell of a lot more excited about the Wii than anything else at this point.

Up until the first Playstation, I had pretty much everything - PS, Sega Genesis, N64, SNES, NES, and some other stuff mixed in there too.  For some reason, I never bought a Dreamcast... then I skipped the PS2... then the X-Box, etc.

I just don't have as much time to devote to video games as I did back in the olden days... funny that my gaming decreased just as my "dorky star wars website" career started up.  :P

Anyway, yeah - PS3 is cool and all but I'm saving my cash for the Revolution... er, Wii.

I don't either - probably 1/3rd of the 50 or so games I've bought since 4 years ago when I bought my first of the current generation consoles are still wrapped in plastic.

PS2's aren't designed to double as DVD players.

Then why do they play DVD's?

I thought it was fairly obvious that by what I said, it was implied they weren't designed to be EVERYDAY USE DVD PLAYERS, but I guess not, so here;

I'll be picking one up, but I am not happy about the prices, $500 or $600!!!

Everytime a new gen system comes out it jumps $150-200.  This hobby is getting too expensive and pricing out the kids.

Those sneaky bastards.

Good thing I'll eventually have all 3 systems, with the Wii possibly being bought first.

I'm digging the Halo and Bonus GTA stuff, so for the first time I'm actually considering XBOX over PS3... but I won't be an online gamer. So the whole MP thing is lost on me. I'll probably just wait for the price to dip before I even try to decide which of the two I want.

So, they're designed to spin video game disks every day, but not DVD movie disks?  A task that takes significantly fewer system resources?

While you're at it, do you have anything else you'd like to pull out of your ass?

I saw people camped out at Best Buy on two nights ago already...then I saw an article in Minne paper stating that only 20 were going to be available per store...what if you camped out for 4 days and were #21

My local Target last night was nuts...  three separate groups of people camping out.   :o

1 - People camping out for the Exclusive "Cities 97 CD Sampler" (promo from a local radio station) that was released today

2 - People camped out for PS3 (Friday)

3 - People camped out for Wii (Sunday)
