I'm living a bit in the past, but I have an N64, Dreamcast, and my Ps2 and they all get along with no problems.   :)

I've been holding out for more price drops before I make the leap to the Ps3.  Plus I'm almost postitive that I'll want to dump my DVD collection and start all over again with Blue Ray and I'm just not looking forward to that for some reason.

You don't need to replace any of your DVDs.  They'll play just fine in your Playstation3.  And it'll even upscale them to 1080p resolution (if you have an HDTV).  I only plan to repurchase a few marque titles (Star Wars, LOTR, etc.).

As far as multiple consoles go, your TV should have multiple inputs, depending on how new it is.  So you can hook your TV signal into Video1, Wii into Video2, your PS3 into Video3.  Or if you have a receiver hooked up, you can do the same thing.

I know I've got plenty of connectors on my TV.  I've even got a TV that will support 1080p.  What I'm worried about is investing another boatload in games and accessories :)

Oh well, the joys of being a parent I suppose.

Ah...

Well, think of it as an investment in a Blu-ray player then.   ;)

As with my game systems - I'm behind the times.  How well does 1080p w/HDTV compare to a standard player with a 36" tube TV that weighs a ton versus a BR disc w/Flatscreen?  Did I mention I'm behind the times?  I haven't used my N64 or Dreamcast since 03, so I  suppose it's time to toss them.

A 1080p HDTV with HD cable/satellite blows away a standard 36" tube.  However, when you watch non-HD programming on an HDTV it actually looks worse than a 36" tube, because you can see the pixelation and compression artifacts.  So you'd be advised to pay the extra $10 per month for HD programming.

BTW, watching the NFL in HD is about as close to heaven as we can get on this planet.

When it comes to Blu-ray movies and PS3 games, the difference in quality with knock you over.   ;)

Yea, we broke down and bought the PS3 last night.  I'm such a sucker.  Cost me $600 to get out the door.  We traded in a few Wii and GameCube games at Gamestop and picked up two Sports titles that my son wanted - MLB the Show and NBA 2K8.  We got them both used so saved a bit there.

I was pleased how easy the PS3 hooked up to my TV, just needed the single HDMI cable :)

Oh yea, and as far as an investment in a blu-ray.  Yea, I already had one of those too.  Like I said, I'm such a sucker.

Don't toss the Dreamcast. It's actually worth some money. People look for those things for emulation and homebrewing games. I can emulate every console ever made up to a playstation on that thing. All the way from Atari to N64.  They are getting harder to comeby and most of its library iso images can be found fairly easily if you know where to look.

Some in-game screen of the upcoming PS3 game Heavy Rain:

Better than anything else I've seen on a console...

I wonder if the game itself will live up to the visuals.

I have no idea what the game is even about.  They're supposed to officially reveal it in two weeks at Leipzig.

From the looks of it (and the title) - rain.  Heavy rain.

But seriously, I've come very close to trading in my old PS2 on that new PS3 MGS4 bundle pack many times...

I'm thinking I should just wait for the reduced price version coming later this year...I really don't need the backwards compatibility and from what I've heard it's spotty at best.

How much store credit do they even give for the PS2?  I've also got the old fat one.  Not sure if that matters or not.
