The backwards compatibility is a joke - Battlefront II doesn't even work on my PS3.  $400 machine can't even play a $20 PS2 game.

The Wii kicks the **** of the PS3 when it comes to wireless connectivity (my PS3 hasn't even been online yet despite the fact that it sits right NEXT to the Wii) and overall fun factor (have you seen the old NES games available for purchase)?

Posts like this make me glad I've got a modded Xbox, with a ****-ton of original Xbox games on the hard drive (including Battlefont II), along with pretty much every Atari 2600, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Genesis, and arcade game ever made.

Yeah, despite what the PS3 ****sucker has to say, the thing is an overpriced piece of **** Blu Ray player.

I'd like to know why the older, discontinued 20GB and 60GB versions can play BFII but my newer 80GB version can't.

And the **** causes breakouts:

Because they removed the Emotion Engine hardware from that SKU and only featured software emulation along with the legacy GPU.  The 20 and 60 had both hardware components.  Sony did this as a cost-saving measure, concluding most gamers didn't want backward compatibility.  Personally, I think it was a mistake on their part.  But it was a well-publicized change, so you'd need to be pretty ignorant not to know what you were getting.

Only Sony could come up with varying degrees of backwards compatibility.  I have no problem with producing models that either do or don't read old software but this **** is just plain deceptive.

Even a tool like yourself can agree with that.

Chill, dudes.

I've also got the 80G MGSIV model, but it plays Battlefront II flawlessly, last I checked. The only PS1-PS3 game that didn't play perfectly fine was the Orange Box Bundle - and those glitches are apparently thanks to a ****** port-job by Valve.

No major complaints and no skin breakouts, yet.

Heh... looks like all of ruiner's problems are self-inflicted.  If he has a PS3 at all.  Could be he's just a troll.

"Doesn't even work" v/s "At a specific point during gameplay, various graphics appear corrupt."

Are you sure you have the thing plugged in?   ::)

So yeah, if you don't have the console online, you can't download the required patches.  What version of the OS are you running?

So how many backwards compatible versions are there?  I'm looking at something that would handle the Rock Band/Guitar Hero stuff?  If it's not readily available, I'm saying screw it and buying a Wii and new hardware.

Amazon Gold Box

It looks like Fallout 3 and Killzone 2 will be on sale later this afternoon.  Fallout 3 is fantastic (already beat it and sold it).  I just picked up KZ2 last week.  I've played it twice, and so far it's lived up to the hype.
