Thanks BrentS, I was looking specifically at the Battlefront titles, and maybe a few others.  I don't have a huge amount of time to play games, sitting on a two hour flight being the longest stretch I've had lately, so those type of games would work best.

I have a PSP (Star Wars limited edition) but don't really travel enough to get good use out of it.  I only own two games.  It's a quality piece of equipment, but I'm not in love with the layout of the controls.  It's just not as easy to grasp and use as it probably should be.  But it is a nice way to kill a few hours.

And yes, you can link your PSP up to your PS3 via Bluetooth and download apps that way.  It'll also hook up to a PC via USB.

Alleged PS3 Slim Details Leaked, Forecasted to Arrive This Fall

Quote
It is real. As previously reported, according to Super_Secret the 'PS3 Slim' is a PS3 that's been cut down as much as physically possible without preventing the loss of playback of any existing PS3 title out there.

It still has Blu-ray, it still has wireless, it still has bluetooth and it still has gigabit ethernet. "OtherOS" support has been removed.
You still get 2 USB ports.

Hard drive sizes will be bigger, it will come in 120Gb and 250Gb flavors. It's still replaceable and will actually be slightly easier as it has been relocated to the front of the console.

It will NOT have any "new" features, such as backwards compatibility or enhanced peripheral support. It's just a PS3, but slightly smaller and cheaper. The power supply is still internal, but a different power cable will be used.

Rear ports are still the same: 1x HDMI, 1x Sony AV port, 1x Optical, 1x Ethernet. And of course a power port. Release date and official announcement are not final.

Price is undetermined, but make no mistake, this is a "slimmed" PS3 in every sense of the word. It's as cheap as can possibly be, so expect it to launch with a smaller price tag than what you're paying now in your respective territories.

Internally, several daughter boards have been removed, but all functionality is still there. This is due to a more advanced manufacturing process. It still uses a few extra boards, though, we're not quite at PSTwo levels yet.

A cheaper Blu-ray drive is being used. It wont be any slower, but expect to see similar issues that another competitor had a while ago. Touch-sensitive buttons on the front for power/eject are gone in favor of cheaper push buttons.

It has a slightly different startup screen. Only slightly. It's about 50% smaller than current PS3s. It wont be called the "PS3 Slim". The PS1 "slim" and the PS2 "slim" were never officially called the "slim", either.

In short: It's a smaller PS3, but that's it. No new features, no special hardware, just smaller and cheaper. And it wont have sex with you.

Cross-game chat is in the works as part of Firmware 3.0. It wont be out during the summer, but assuming all goes well, it will be out well before the holidays.

Current timeframe places it around September, but it's still very much a WIP. If there are any major delays, that will slip and if there are very few delays at all, it might even arrive earlier, but don't bank on it as it is a lot more complicated than you might imagine.

At this point, it's working quite well in the labs and supports several players at once. It's targeted to work with all past and future games that support ingame XMB, much like text chat.

I'm not a betting man, but I wouldn't be surprised if the "slim" shipped with this firmware installed (that doesn't mean the slim will come first, remember).

Who said the 3000 wasn't being phased out? It will be and sooner than you realize. However, the PSP Go isn't what's replacing it. The 4000 is. And yes, it will have a UMD drive. And similar to the PS3 "slim", it's nothing to actually get excited about.

Keep a very close eye on the hard drives shipped with newer PS3's. In a few months (or possibly sooner), something strange is going to start happening.

There you have it, folks. That's it, I'm done, I'm outta here. If you have any more questions, you'll just have to wait like everyone else.

This account is gone, never to be logged into again. You might see me in a few months time when I've got something even more awesome to tell you, but it wont be from this account, and it probably wont even be on this site. Adios!

So I'm wanting high speed for my PS3 and PC. I'm willing to call Comcast Cable and get them to install it... I know my PS3 is capable of wireless play, but I don't know how far away the router can be installed for it to work well. I don't even know what kind of wireless I need. Can someone please give me a hand?

The PS3 Wi-Fi is 802.11 b/g.  I have FiOS, and the router they installed included wireless out of the box.  All I needed to do was plug a PC into the router, type in the router's IP address, set the password for access, then detect the wireless connection on my PS3 and enter the password.  It was very simple.

Not certain on the maximum distance from the router.  Mine's maybe 15 feet away, through one wall.  I'd get them to install the router as close as possible.

I haven't ever had luck getting my PS3 to connect via wireless and my router.  I think my family room is a black hole for wireless signal though.  My router is about 70 feet away and even with a so called "range extender" I couldn't get sufficient signal.  I went with the powerline approach that lets you use a standard power outlet as an ethernet bridge.  Seems to work okay, although I don't do much online gaming so I'm not sure how the speeds are.

Hey Sugar! I'll be playing at around 5PM my time, today... maybe we'll get a chance to duel.

10-18 is a pretty decent ratio, believe it or not. What really matters is if you help your team win. I like playing Domination because you earn about 200 EXP points if per match if you win, and a good 80 or so at least if you lose. There are a couple of maps where I will just squat over a single objective and play defense. I might make 5 kills the entire match, but if I prevent the other team from securing our bridge (or whatever) I've done better than what I could probably do on the attack. EXP points give you rank, the more rank you get, the better perks and weapons you'll have.

Marksman challenges are listed in the Barracks>Challenges>Weapon Type>Specific Weapon. Typically it's 25 kills with whatever weapon you want the red dot for. You will eventually also unlock a silencer and scope, as well. I believe scopes require 25 head shots. What I'm looking forward to unlocking is the "Overkill" perk which allows you to carry a second primary weapon in the place of your service pistol. (just don't equip two weapons that use the same ammo!)

Just a bit of advice in case you didn't already know this... Red dots are great and don't change your weapon's abilities, but the scopes actually reduce accuracy while improving range. Silencers make you invisible on the radar, but you lose range and accuracy. Keep that in mind when you customize your weapon. If you normally engage the enemy at mid-to-long range, the silencer may not give away your position but your repeated misses will.

Cool thanks for the tips. I gotta say so far everything I was worried about hasnt been the case. I assumed that it would be a whole lot of 14 years olds cursing at me and talking trash, not the case so far. I played campaign for a bit and want to finish it at some point, but the real reason I bought the game is for online play.

How come Sony can't sell a bundle without M rated games? My kids arn't allowed to play M rated or even T rated games. That bundle makes the PS3 less tempting to me. How about just $90 off?

Um, you obviously didn't pay attention the one they released before this one. The bundle with Wall-E and Little Big Planet (both of those are rated E) for the same price. Anyway the PS3 is directed to Teen and Adult gamers. Maybe you should just get a Wii and save yourself the headache.
I remember my dream now.
