JD Fantasy Football 2006
« on: June 8, 2006, 12:40 AM »
Unbelievable but the link on yahoo for fantasy football is up already :o  I'll commish the league if no one else wants in but I'd prefer to pass as I'll probably be doing multiple hockey leagues come fall time.

Who's in?

I was going to volunteer to commish this time through since I haven't led any leagues yet and football is the sport I have the most understanding of.

If there aren't any objections of course.  I'd go with a majority rule style if elected.[/campaign speech]

Of course, I was also going to wait about another 6 weeks before bringing it up - but if the link is there, then we might as well register and start collecting bodies.

12 teams?

I'm going to throw a bunch of questions out to see what everyone wants:

  • Do we want to stick with 12 teams?   Or does anyone think we'll need 14 or 16.  I guess we can always adjust it so long as it stays an even number.
  • Live draft or like we usually do it?  Either way is fine with me but I'd lean towards drafting here over the course of a week or two since we'll have more teams and it might be tougher to get everyone in one imaginary room at the same time.
  • Do you guys prefer that the Playoffs be week 14,15,16 or 15,16,17 - Either an extra week of Fantasy Football, or less chance of starters resting during the championship game?
  • How many bench spots?  I'm usually in favor of a few too many rather than a few too few
  • Can't Cut list or no?

It's currently set like this:

  • Scoring - Head to Head
  • Playoffs - Week 15,16,17
  • Max Teams - 12
  • League Start - Week 1
  • Can't Cut List - Yahoo Sports
  • Max Moves - No Maximum
  • Max Trades - No Maximum
  • Trade Reject Time - 2 Days
  • Trade End Date - 11/24/06
  • Trade Review - League Votes
  • Waiver Time - 2 Days
  • Waiver Type - Weekly Rolling List Based on Standings
  • Sun to Tues Waivers - No
  • Post Draft Players - Follow Waiver Rules

Roster Size:
  • QB - 1
  • WR - 2
  • RB - 2
  • TE - 1
  • WR/TE - 1
  • WR/RB - 1
  • K - 1
  • DEF - 1
  • BN - 8

Scoring:
  • Passing TD's - 4 Points (I thought 3 was a little too few last year, but 6 is too many)
  • INT - Minus 1
  • Passing Yards - 75 Yards = 1 Point
  • Passing Bonus - 300 or more Yards = 1 Bonus Point
  • Rushing TD - 6 Points
  • Rushing Yards - 25 Yards = 1 Point
  • Rushing Yarrds Bonus - 100 or more Yards = 1 Bonus Point
  • Receiving  TD's - 6 Points
  • Receiving Yards - 25 Yards = 1 Point
  • Receiving Yards Bonus - 100 or more Yards = 1 Bonus Point
  • Return TD's - 6 Points
  • Offensive Fumble Return TD - 6 Points
  • 2 Pt Conversion - 2 Points
  • Fumbles - 1 Point
  • Fumbles Lost - Minus 1 Point
  • Fieldgoals 0-19 Yards - 3 Points
  • Fieldgoals 20-29 Yards - 3 Points
  • Fieldgoals 30-39 Yards - 3 Points
  • Fieldgoals 40-49 Yards - 4 Points
  • Fieldgoals 50+ Yards - 5 Points
  • PAT - 1 Point

Defensive Scoring:
  • Shutout - 6 Points
  • Sack - 1 Point
  • INT - 1 Point
  • Fumble Recovery - 1 Point
  • Touchdown - 6 Points
  • Safety - 2 Points
  • Blocked Kick - 2 Points
  • Kickoff and Punt Return TD's - 6 Points

  • Fractional Scoring - Yes
  • Negative Points - Yes

League ID Number - 52719
Password - berry

Check over all this carefully, it's more or less how we've done it in the past, but I threw in a few wrinkles like bonus points for yardage plateaus and added a second flex spot for WR/TE - these are certainly debatable, but I thought they'd be fun things to try out.

Thoughts?

I rather have a live draft and get everything over with.

I think passing TDs should be 6.  Only 11 QBs threw for more than 20 TDs, in theory majority of our teams will have a decent QB.  But only 3 RBs had over 20 TDs, and the rest were 14 or below.

Is the info correct, I can't sign up.   ???

Too many teams spreads things awfully thin.  I was in a spawn league last year for both football and hockey with 19 teams.  Playing some pretty obscure folks at times.  I'd prefer no larger than 12.

As for the draft, I know it's difficult to get everyone together, but they can always opt to have the computer draft and rank their players.  It's not perfect, but it does work pretty well.  I've grown to like the two hour live draft approach.

I presume the defending champ is in?

Do you want to go with two flex positions, or just one?  I don't see many folks slotting a TE into a flex spot, but if it can be RB/WR then one would be cool, wouldn't it?

I'd also prefer that it stay down to about 12 teams max.

As for the Flex, those are the two types offered.  I can make the WR/TE one into a WR/RB one and then it would really just be a question of one flex or two.

Personally I like getting players into the game - it is an advantage for people who draft well in the late rounds to have the extra spots.

If you guys want to make it just one flex spot though, it's cool.

I'm in again as well. I agree no higher than 12 teams, it isn't as fun when you need to rely on several unkown players.
