"Jundland Wastes Encounter" Battle Pack
« on: August 14, 2006, 09:44 AM »
According to a report at RS, at a UK convention a Hasbro rep confirmed some information on four of the battle packs coming up next year - including one that I hadn't heard of before "Jundland Wastes Encounter".  This set is rumored to include  Luke Skywalker, Tusken Raider, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Ben Kenobi.

They'll make battle packs out of anything....

Oh well, another one less thing for me to buy.

Whats the point?  Even if my some mericle they use VOTC/VTSC versions of the charactes, which they will not, I have no need for the pack.

Like some of the others, I would not even buy then on clearance b/c I do not have any need for the figures, not even to customize. :-\

I'd have to think the motivation for the pack is that Hasbro has realized that without a movie to drive the "kiddie" side of the market, all they have for sales is the collector aspect.  If you're a loose collector, then we can happily say who cares, but for the carded or MIMP types, they're screwed and Hasbro knows it.

And honestly, the display boxes they've been putting out do look pretty nice and you could do a clean display of them side by side or stacked and it would look great.  The backgrounds look good too.

So here's what I expect in this one (which I will, of course, be passing on):

-Luke Skywalker (2006 Saga Collection repack with no poncho or hat, but with rifle)
-Obi-Wan Kenobi (2004 OTC Spirit repainted to be a living Kenobi)
-R2-D2 (VOTC version since they apparently refuse to do the R4-G9 R2 they've been picturing for the last eight months)
-C-3P0 (POTF2 Flashback Desert Worn Threepio)
-Tusken Raider (Saga 2003 Camp Ambush Tusken with regular head)

Here's What I Would Like To See:

-VTSC Sand People x2
-TSC C-3P0 (Repainted Dirty, With Removable Arm)
-VOTC Luke Skywalker
-VOTC Obi-Wan Kenobi (With New Hood-Up Cloak)

Here's What Hasbro Will Give Us:

-POTF2 Tusken Raider
-POTF2 R5-D4 x2
-95' POTF2 Obi-Wan Kenobi
-VOTC C-3P0

its sounds okay but I will be passing. I believe its going to be

Tusken Raider (POTJ Version)
Obi-Wan Kenobi (POTJ Version w/ Cloak)
Luke Skywalker (TSC Version)
C-3PO (POTF2 Shop Worn)
R2-D2 (Early Bird w/ Desert paint)

If they are going with this, they should have done an New Purchase of the Droids Set with Owen, Jawas, New Droids, Beru. Get them out of the way.

just to be frank upfront i doubt in a million years they could make me want this.

but here goes

i'd jump at the chance if they:

included a new landspeeder.
remolded the 04 obi-wan spirit.
included the rots c-3po with a rusty paint job and removable arm.
a kitbash of votc tusken with 03's tusken.
and votc artoo & luke.

thats alot to hope for i know.

i'll sneer at it as i flip through the pegs if they:

no landpeeder, flashback obi-wan(kitbashed or not),06 luke(without gear),votc c-3po(shudders),kitbashed flying artoo 03', direct repack of 03 tusken.

either way i'm ok. covered these bases a long time ago.......well most of them. still waiting for a really good tusken, the new votc one any good? from what i can tell he's plaqued by pimp daddy robe statis like votc ben kenobi.

While this pack is good for newbies this is really easy to see what it will include:

Saga-2 Tatooine Luke
POTJ Ben with Cloak
POTF flashback 3P0 with removable arm
R2 with dirt deco
Saga Tusken

"included a new landspeeder. "

Huh?  You want them to put a 15 dollar vehicle in a 20 dollar set of figures?

Hopefully it uses the Saga 2003 Tusken with the removable head, since he hasn't been rereleased and is a pretty sweet figure. The POTJ version is a great sculpt for what it is (a relatively static figure), but he's already been rereleased in the OTC and is a lot easier to find these days than the Saga version.
