I don't know - it almost seems like a cheap way for Hasbro to sneak some "minis" into the regular line to try in some way to hook kids/collectors on the WotC Miniatures figures.

Yeah, that's a real "conspiracy theory" type idea, but those mini-holos (especially in action poses) remind me an awful lot of those figures.

I keep saying I'm not going to worry about these mini-holos, but I know eventually I'll be putting up a trade list looking to complete my set...  :-[

Ditto.  If it's a character based collectible, I'll want them all.  Completism is a dangerous disease.   ::)

What do you guys think about the sculpts. It looks to me, via the Maul, that some will have action poses. I actually would prefer more static neutral poses as they would be more movie accurate, even on characters who never showed up as Holos. But that's me.

I don't mind the action sculpts - it seems to add a little more interesting look to them.

It's marketing at it's best to randomly pack the mini holo figures - completists will more than likely buy multiples of figures to complete their holo collection.

Great for Hasbro, bad for completists and collectors who have been diagnosed with OCD.

But I don't like the fact that they are easy to tamper with (see GH.com).  This will cause MAJOR problems because of the cheap ******** that like to replace new figures with old piece of **** figures.

I really could see someone replacing the holos with WOTC minatures (commons).

Hasbro has a nice update on these...

Q. The Star Wars basic figures for 2006 come with a hologram figure – how many figures are there?  Are they randomly-assigned?

A. The hologram figures are randomly-assigned – there are 12 in all:
• Emperor Palpatine
• Darth Maul
• Queen Amidala
• Darth Vader
• Yoda
• Count Dooku
• Boba Fett
• Han Solo
• Rebel Trooper
• Obi-Wan Kenobi
• Luke Skywalker
• Stormtrooper

Im not happy about the random thing, but am relieved that there is only 12 (so far :P).  The Rebel Trooper seemed really strange to me.  Im somewhat surprised with the Stormtrooper as well.  I thought they would of stuck to main characters.  So whose building an army of holo Stormtroopers ;)

If it is truely random, I feel sorry for all the variation hunters.

Well, let's see -

Early reports on the figures say that the "good-guy" holos (Amidala, Han, Luke, Ben, Yoda, Rebel) will come with the "good guy" figures and the "bad guy" holos (Vader, Emperor, Maul, Dooku, Fett, Stormtrooper) will come with the "bad guy" figures.

So that means that each carded figure should only have 6 variants possible (barring any errors which may likely happen).  That means you carded uber-completists can look forward to:

   approximately 56 basic figures
@ approximately $6 each
X 6 holo pack-ins possible

= $2,016 total

And that is just for starters - each additional variant/running change adds another $36 to the total...  :P

Yeah, I can't wait to see the people who openly admit that they will get all varients.

People are going to go all nutty for these holograms.  There has not really been a pack-in that has not been collectible except for maybe the commtech chips.  I don't think those went over the best.  But the coins from the vintage days, freeze frames, commtech chips, they always find a group ready to collect them.  Same with this.  I personally could take them or leave them but I certainly won't be complaining about getting them.

Sadly I'm interested in the mini hologram figures.

Happily I'm an opener anyway, so I should be able to acquire most of these holograms without too much effort.

I can see guys like Colman and Pete Fett pulling out what hair they may have pretty quickly though.  I'll share a bit of misery because of helping out a guy in Japan with the trilogo stuff.  I'm hoping his appetite for this stuff is pretty small.

Can you say "A variation collectors nightmare?"

Seriously, if the variation collectors really are going to try to complete these sets, what else is going to be left for everyone else?  Either that, or Hasbro is going to bankrupt some people.

I definitely think Hasbro does this on purpose.  What better way to suck the life out of product.
