After seeing that Blackhole Stormtrooper bust I sent out an e-mail to them to inquire. This is the response I received:

Dear Ray,

Thank you for your email.

Gentle Giant is proud to announce it has teamed up with their Japanese
distributor, Blister, to cosponsor the Gentle Giant @ Blister Event Tokyo
this May. On hand at the Japan Event will be the creative forces of Gentle
Giant to answer questions and give the fans an inside look at how Gentle
Giant works. And as a special treat for those in attendance, the Blackhole
Stormtrooper mini bust and Chrome Darth Vader Statue will be available for
purchase for the first time. The edition size of the Blackhole Stormtrooper
mini bust will be 1000 pieces. 500 will be made available to the Japan
Event, the rest will be made available through Gentle Giant's U.S. channels.
The Chrome Darth Vader Statue has an edition of 2500 pieces. 1000 will be
made available to the Japan Event. Those who preordered the Chrome Darth
Vader Statue at last summer's conventions will be guaranteed to receive the
statue and the remaining quantity will be available worldwide through Gentle
Giant's channels.

Sincerely,
Gentle Giant Customer Service

I sure hope there is some advance notice as to who is going to carry the BH Stormtrooper. Not looking forward to the hundreds of dollars these are going to be selling for once they hit ebay :-[.

Thanks for shooting them the email, that is helpful.  I hope they have more planned than 1000 total, but that wasn't entirely clear in their response.

After checking out their site I noticed that the e-mail they sent to me is the same thing they posted starting a BLOG on their site. Everyone should cruise on over and post their disappointment. Looks like they haven't learned from the whole SDCC Clone bust fiasco :-\.

Exactly. This has all the makings of a complete fiasco.

According to this GG interview on RS the Shocktrooper will be limited to 3500 pieces.  The Shocktrooper bust will come packaged with the bust up for a price of $60.

The edition size for Mara Jade is TBD.

Oooh, double nasty.  Shocktrooper bust and a bust up all in one :o  Man, I really need this now to keep up on the bust ups alone, never mind that really cool bust.  The Mara Jade looks pretty darn awesome as well :o  Happy I started in on this line, in spite of the frustration.

Nice to finally have some hint as to what's going on with these. Now I wonder what kind of distribution method they're going to use. Everyone on their blog has voted for preordering before the show, but we'll see... And let's hope they don't follow suite with their Mara Jade bust and make it 1000 pieces like the Blackhole Stormtrooper. ::)

I'd say you've got better odds getting that than the bust Jesse.  Some folks may parcel it off for sale.  Also knowing GG, the chances of it getting released down the line might be not too bad.  Not like it's a major production piece for them like a bust or a limited edition.  It's a preused mold that's been repainted, nothing more.

Are you all caught up?  I'm only missing two of the black hole versions, one Gree and the Vader from comic con so I expect to have that soon.

What's stopping you from getting a can of black Krylon Fusion spraypaint and hitting 2 stormies?
