what is the gnt fiasco?

The guy locks threads for the sake of locking them, and doesn't take well to criticism.

The RS community wanted him removed from his mod post, but Philip won't go for it.

If Phil is handling Celebration 3, then I think I won't go. **** that guy, the putz.

I guess. Didn't C2 Ventures handle it?

Hell, I can't remember. There's a post in this thread about it.

All I care to say is an echo of what has already been stated, that is that Philip Wise is a business man - not a Star Wars fan.

To be completely honest - and I may get flak for saying this - I'm thrilled that Philip Wise is showing everyone what an ass many of us already knew he is... Now people won't think I feel this way simply just because I work for JD and was banned from RS.

WOTC ran C2 but I think C2 venutres ran the autographs.  Its sad that Philip is acting the way he is because as a result of these two fiascos people are going or already left.  Since the GNT thing I have seen more people joining here some of whom left for that reason some other may of wanted to see those pictures of EP3.
Now I need to read those threads at TFN.

What a cad! If he pulls this stunt at RS it's not going to be pretty; it’s boxing glove central there as it is.

Phil owns C2 Ventures too...I have thoughts on this but I want to think a little bit more about it before I put in my 2 bits/12.5

Yeah, he owns C2 Ventures - which ran the autograph section at the convention, and continues to pimp them through the TFN autograph store. You can imagine the stress something like leaked images through either of his sites would put on that business, and any future officially sanctioned Lucas/Star Wars/Convention merchandise he has on tap.

As far as the spark for the whole debate, when I hired in as a moderator over at Rebelscum, Philip asked for my "real-world" contact information. I sent it to him and never gave it a second thought. What's the big deal with that?

As far as the further developments go, I'm sad but I'm not too surprised. I naven't had a problem with Philip on a personal level but he definitely has a different take on how to run message boards than I would.

Circumvent? You better check your settings. All I did was type the word. I was actually surprised because I thought you guys censored here...

EDIT: I just tried some choice words in a preview post. You guys have it set to catch dirty words if they're exact, but not variations. For example, if you had "crap" censored, "crapweasel" still gets through. You need to set it so it comes up "****weasel".

;)  Don't worry too much on the language filter thing, the biggies are not really recommended for daily use and if we see them, we'll edit them.

Philip told me once the forums were at the bottom of his list of concerns. He just doesn't seem to care about the community he hosts.

If that's still true, I wouldn't be surprised if he shut down the Jedi Council and Rebelscum forums, especially if they are quite literally more trouble than they are worth. They'll just go back to being news sites.

What a businessman. Nice collection, too.
Post sober.
