Paul's Attempts at Customs
« on: January 5, 2007, 12:49 PM »
Here are my first customs to be displayed here on the net.....

These are my DS Gunners who are NOT Jango Clones in my universe...

Star Wars heads.

And now GI Joe (and Cobra) join the Empire....

who gave you, your own universe?

but yeah i agree its lame that hasbro is making the empire full of jango clones, when all eu material points to the fact that they've been recruiting. hell even lucas says that the stormtroopers aren't clones.

spiffy :)

I like to see non-clone & non-Jango-clone imperial forces. No matter who says what about them. I like seeing helmet-less troops having some individuality. So nice job with the heads - especially Bludd - love it!

I take it you hollowed out each head for all kindsa ball-jointery goodness?

You need more Death Star Gunners.   :P

Nice work though, as their heads seem to be well-placed.  My first head swaps looked like they either had no neck, or an inverse neck.

I see Bludd becoming a Tie Pilot once I get done hollowing those helmets out...

Yes I have a dremel with variable speed and an extension cord type thing so I can hold it like a dentists drill.  I put a round diamond chipped bit in it and let it go.  I went through several heads before I found the zone.  But it works well.

I have another dozen DSG's that need non-jango heads, but I don't have "volunteers" yet.  I plan to use them throughout the line for DS Troopers, Rebel Troopers, Stormtroopers etc.

Nice work Paul, and yeah this is the first customizing I ever saw you get to, haha...

You should consider seeing if you can get some casts off someone and just paint them up.  BBI and 21st heads (BBI are better though) are usually sold by someone somewhere...  Of course, you'd have to pick up the paintbrush on those too which may be more time consuming ultimately, but definitely a more generic variety...  Something to consider to find more volunteers at least.

Good work though man...  Is this a first step into a larger world or are you doing it just because you, like myself, hate Jango heads under those helmets? :)

Thanks for the kind words everybody (I forgot to say that in my first repy...)

I've thought about casting my own, but the 2 piece mold is too hard for me to understand and execute.  (I'm just a cave man)

I got some Cast Heads from Good to Go or Aly's Corner, but I would still have to dremel them out (even more because they are solid resin casts) and then Paint them.  So they ended up on GI Joes.  They are about $3 a piece (and worth that for sure), but by the time I have to drimmel and paint them (which I am not really that great at) it is easier just to get a cheap figure at a convention or ebay and dremel the head out.

I have a few other customs I have been working on (mostly in the kitbash/head swap area) that I will post as well.  Lets just say this was a starting point. Baby steppin....

My goal is to be able to add knees to Imperial Officers, Elbows to POTF2 Endor Rebels and both to Saga Hoth Luke and of coure non Jango Heads to every removable helmet Imp that is made from here till the end of the line.

Thats why we customize isnt it?  :D

Very nice customs though, I like the variation in heads...well except maybe the guy with the eyepatch, he reminds me of Phil from Harvey Birdman  :P , Very nice.
How did you manage to find such massive amounts of gunners though!? Its crazy cool!

Though I thought I'd never see the day, death star gunners are warming the pegs at my local Target and Walmart.

Hey Paul,

Big thanks for smashing the cloning facilities and making some REAL gunners.

It's just annoying how the big H is making everything and it's grandmother a clone.

All the different heads add a uniqueness that SHOULD have stayed that way in the figure lines (guess the big H finds it easier to put the same head on everything).

Nice to see work with DS gunners as a whole instead of just the parts  ;D.

Paul's Clone Wars diorama...  He has one pissed off and bloody Battledroid standing over them all.  Pretty inspired and inspiring diorama I think. ;)
