I'm curious if it will come with the Saga Obi-Wan pilot or will I have to scour ebay for another?

The box image doesn't say.
This is the way.

From the product desciption on TRU.com

Obi-Wan's vehicle as seen in the Star Wars film Episode II: Attack of the Clones, attaches to the nine-inch Hyperspace Ring and features blast-off body panels, firing cannons and spring-open wings! Vehicle comes with unassembled hyperspace ring, missiles, labels, display stand and instructions. Some assembly required. Ages 4 and up.

No figure.

Well that dashes hopes that we'd get an SA AOTC Obi, which is LONG overdue. Heck use the ROTS pilot fig, but with an AOTC Obi head and "bam" you're done. Only tooling needed might be the head, and even then not really. Simply use the head from the comic pack with the rest from the pilot body. Minimal cost there, but would so totally make the set worth it, beyond the hyperspace ring. The figure would be close enough for the purpose of the set.

Sure there would still be some who would b*tch complain about having to get another ship, but I think with addition of an SA Obi, that number would greatly decrease.

My problem with the set isn't that the Hyperspace Ring adds $15 to the price of the Starfighter, it's the fact that I have to spend an extra $20 to get another Ep2 Obi-Wan JSF.  ::)

Actually, you're spending an additional $25 to get the fighter. :P

There is an Attack Of The Clones wave of figures that's strongly rumored for next year.  Perhaps we'll get a new Obi-Wan that's well suited to being seated in the fighter in that wave.

Should be a no brainer. All they'd have to do is what Sal suggested.  :P

I'd like to see them use the Obi-Wan body that's shipping in 2008 wave 1, if anything.  The lower part of the tunic appears to be softgoods (much better suited for a starfighter pilot), and all that would be needed for it to be accurate?
-proper paintjob (the underpart of the tunic in AOTC is white)
-AOTC headsculpt
-AOTC boots

Throw in a SG cloak, AOTC era lightsaber and a removable headset and I'd be very happy.

The front page is reporting that these are starting to hit retail!  I'll have to check TRU asap.

Despite your "Debbie Downer", realistic view of things trying to squish my dreams, I will continue to hope that they find a way to release the rings separately, because I really don't like the idea (whether practical for Hasbro or not) of rebuying all the JSFs just to get the rings.   :-\

I too am not relishing the idea that I might be having to re-buy all of the JSFs only "this time with rings!"

However, the reality is that Hasbro spent a good amount of money sculpting and tooling the Hyperspace Ring, so they are going to use it more than just this one time.

The sensible thing would be for them to come out with one more new design (such as Aayla Secura's JSF) and include the Hyperspace ring with that as an exclusive to either TRU or Target. Then on top of that offer JUST the hyperspace rings for Plo Koon's, Kit Fisto's and Saesee Tiin's JSFs as an online exclusive with HasbroToyShop.com.

A two-pronged strategy like that would increase the ROI on the Hyperspace Ring development. I also think a lot of collectors who already have those three JSFs would be more open to the idea of just buying three Hyperspace Rings as opposed to re-buying the vehicle.

I don't have a lot of faith that Hasbro would be so kind though - so I'm kinda expecting a re-release of the Plo Koon JSF w/a Hyperspace Ring, exclusive to Target at some point in 2008, perhaps even as a Clone Wars line exclusive.

The AOTC Starfighter being my favorite I'm going to have to pass on this as I bought a bunch of these when they were on clearance for 5 bucks. If they sold the ring seperate I may buy it then.
I remember my dream now.

Pete_Fett, you're right on the mark there.

An Aayla JSF would be cool, I bet and a good way to get another hyperspace ring into production. I too would love to see Hasbro offer the other rings as an exclusive but hold out no hope they will do so. So I'll just decide now not to repurchase the whole damn thing for just the rings. Obi-wan's yes, but no others.

Heh, Hasbro is the new "Lord of the Rings."

I think I can safely wait until after the holiday to pick this up and let the costs for this cycle spread out.

I just picked this up and used a 20% off coupon on it to get it for $28! Surprisingly the box is fairly thin, I did not open it yet but I will let you guys know how it is.

I live in Chicago and found it at a nearby TRU in the burbs. I am glad I found this in store, I just canceled my online order. Not only did I save on shipping but the 20% coupon made this a painless purchase saving me $14! $34.99 is not a good price for this, no figur included, a thin & small box just does not make a good value if you ask me.
