NBA 2007 - 2008
« on: October 30, 2007, 09:00 AM »
Another season is upon us.  Who will challenge the Spurs this year?  Will they finally get the "repeat" that has so far eluded them?  Or will this be the year that Dallas or Phoenix gets past them?  Now that Boston is relevant again, do their three stars have enough to get them to the Finals?  Where will Kobe end up?  Tip-off is tonight!

As a Laker fan I just wish they would resolve the whole Kobe situation as soon as possible.

Can any of you Association fans out there explain to me how Gerald Wallace went from 2.1 blocks in 2005-2006 to 1.0 or less since then?

What is this, some kind of injury that affects his shot-blocking, but not his offense, that's been 1.5 years in duration?

He hasn't been the same since that rap he took on the noggin' in the opening weeks of last season.

 ???

Before that season his highest blocks was 1.3, it also coincided with the injury to Emeka Okafor.  Now with Emeka healthy there's less shot blocking opportunities.

Well, that's probably the best theory going.

It definitely makes more sense than a rap on the ol' cranium causing him to stumble around confused and delerious on defense.

It just seems that Okafor, a Center, would be covering the 7' types, while G-Wall should have just as many opportunities blocking shots on the SF-SG types that are easier to block.  His minutes are also at career highs.

Your theory seems to make more sense in terms of offense, where he would get more shots with Okafor being out.  I'm not sure it translates into defensive shot-blocking opportunity.

But maybe it does.

Nice night by Wallace tonight :o

Celtics lose yet again.  Looks like the beast of the east is a wee bit more than mortal now.  Bored?  Disinterested?  Overconfident?

I would say that's a pretty good deal for the Lakers, although Kwame has become a decent enough player out there - he's nowhere on the level of Gasol.  Once Bynum gets back from injury, that's a pretty nice front line.

That makes the Lakers instant contenders - they could easily win a championship this season.
