General Battle Packs Discussion
« on: October 31, 2007, 10:30 AM »
Not that I am complaining, because there has been more than enough to spend money on the past few months, but it seems like battle packs have kind of hit a standstill around here.  I haven't seen any reports of the following hitting retail yet:

Clone Attack on Coruscant (repackaged)
Hunt for General Grievous (repackaged)
Betrayal on Bespin

The only ones I consistently see now are the Tantive and Dagobah packs, which are both nice, but have seemed to hang around for awhile now.  Anyone else seeing anything new from this line lately?

I've been seeing a lot of the first two repackaged sets (Jedi Vs Sith, Jedi vs. Sidious) sell through Target and TRU, so I was expecting this next wave any day now...

In fact, while it's not at retail, HasbroToyShop has the next wave of new and repackaged ones in-stock -

- Betrayal on Bespin
- Droid Factory Capture
- Clone Attack on Coruscant

Thanks Jeff, I hadn't seen those listed.  Like I said, I'm not complaining - the spending crunch has been bad enough lately :P.

I've been passing on most Battle Packs lately.  Which has been nice... the only one I've really spent much money on is the Tantive set, bought over 20 of those.   :-X

I can't recall the exact last time I bought one. It was a Tantive pack, but that's been several months now at least. I'm getting a bit picky now about buying these.

Word is, is that Bespin is starting to hit Target. Haven't heard the other ones hitting though. Other than that I've just been seeing what everyone else is seeing.

Forogt to post this, but I saw the following on Thursday night:
Betrayal at Bespin
Droid Factory
Clone Attack on Coruscant

So they are out there now. Should have snapped off a pic on the cell for proof, sorry.

I don't know if this is the thread for it (since given the AT-RT set being an exclusive, it's safe to assume this one was going to be exclusive as well), but does anyone know what happened to the STAP Battle Pack that was shown at CIV and/or SDCC?  We've seen listings and photos and actual releases of the vast majority of items that were coming out this fall, but I've not seen hide nor hair of the STAP pack.

I've been wondering about that one as well.  We saw that one and the Hoth Patrol battle packs this past summer at the cons.  I know I'd like the STAP Patrol set, and I hope it comes with the 30AC sculpt of the Super Battle Droid.

I believe it was after (or during?) SDCC that Hasbro said that both the Wampa/Hoth BP and the STAP themed BP would be postponed until Spring 2008 to make room for all the re-packaged 2005/2006 Battle Packs they are cranking out this Fall.

I also remember them saying something about how the sets will now most likely be exclusives as well.

Oh my.  Well it does help the wallet, what with all of the Target exclusives that are due out within the next month.

So what I've been able to glean is that there's three different new BP case out there.

WM - 1 x Hunt for Grievous and 1 x Betrayal on Bespin The other two are older sets
Target - 1 each Betrayal, Geonosis and Courescant and an old one
KB - all four new ones

I don't know if it is just our area, or just the timing right now, but it seems like ever since the "holiday shopping" season began a week or two ago (or sooner), the battle packs have been pretty scarce around here.  I know that our local Target has had several of the Tantive BPs on the shelf for a long time now, along with a couple others, and the only one that is left there now is the same Dagobah one where all the figures are laying at the bottom of the box (I kind of hope they put that one on clearance, as I'd like another OTC Yoda and Spirit Obi :P).  Anyways, it does seem like parents/grandparents might be scooping these up as gifts for the kiddos this season.  I have to admit, most of them are a pretty decent deal.  You have to imagine they are looking at it like "well, here I get five figures for basically $4 each, and if I buy figures individually they are close to $7".  Star Wars in general does seem to be selling decently though, vehicles have been more picked over as well.  I know we want to get our nephews each a Jedi starfighter (probably Mace and Anakin), and after waiting for months, they're all disappearing now.

Battle Packs are moving a lot faster than 5 regular carded figures in my area it seems.  Especially at Target.

Target is where I noticed it the most as well.  TRU sits more due to the higher price, and I'm not sure our Wal-Mart even carries Battle Packs anymore.  Its always hard to tell since everything is basically in a big pile in the action figure aisle much of the time, especially this time of the year.
