Look around online as well.  I picked up a custom case for one of my MR sabers that did not come with one.

Who'd you end up using?

eBay, but there are a bunch of online sites that make display cases.  I'll try to find some links for you.
This is the way.

Wow, they're going to retire this in 5 days!  I REALLY want to order this, but spending that much on one item, even one as beautiful as this, is just too much for me.  :(

I hope everyone that wants one is able to get one, of course. With that said, I absolutely hate watching high end pieces depreciate in value less than a year after they are sold for retail. This isn't about what's worth what and all that, it's about how much money one could have saved if they had just waited to buy said item. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell which items will drop in value and which ones will soar. I'm leaning more towards the X-wing appreciating in value over time which would be good for those that bought one. This way we won't feel like we wasted a couple hundred dollars only to find out someone is blowing these out at $800.00 later on.

I chose to do the payment plan, so it will be sometime in March before I get to see mine, but what a way to start off 2009!  :D

If it's made well with a lot of detail (as it looks like it will) I don't think you have to worry about depreciation on it.  Besides, if the price were to drop on it, in the long run it will increase in value.

It seems to me that the eFX crowd has a good understanding of the market and what happens in the secondary market.  Too many and the value drops, so severely limiting them means they'll hold their value.  I don't know the production numbers for the MR Vader's Tie vs the X-wing, but I'd guess the latter to be more limited and this helps hold it's value.  Plus the X-wing is so iconic and unique.

I'd really like to own this piece, but I'm not willing to part with that kind of money I'm afraid.

I totally agree. Companies like Gentle Giant that make an edition size of several thousand are just out of their mind. Even Master Replicas did it with the ROTS Lightsabers and now most, if not all can be found for much cheaper than retail.

eFX did this right. All 1000 pieces may not even be made now. At midnight tonight, the edition size will be set and we know for sure that it will be 1000 or less. That's very smart and with that few, yes, the value should hold.

So...who's buying one? I want to find out who the rich people are in this group.  ;)

Personally, I see it as a complete waste of money and absolutely no reason to go into debt for. I think I would rather put that money towards a 13th mortgage payment on my house than buy yet another something that will be collecting dust.

Just a little over two hours left to order before the X-wing is retired! I've been watching the availability bar go down every so often.

How awesome of eFX to be offering the optional base & case too. That was one thing I was a bit disappointed to hear when they first started putting out product. I'm glad they were able to get that worked out. I won't have my X-wing until March, so I'm in no hurry to get the case, but I'm guessing it will be a couple hundred dollars easy.

You'll have to take pic's of the X-Wing when you get it Chris, that's one hell of a nice piece.  8)
