Finally caught the film this evening. I thought it was a pretty good literal translation of the book, and the new little scenes/bits of conversation were nice to see. I'm really mad they took a lot of the therapist scene out, and even moreso that they took out the giant vaginal squid creature.

A report over at Blue Sky Disney states that film execs at WB will never allow another R rated super hero movie again because of the failure of Watchmen.

Sad that $150 million globally in 18 days is considered "failure."  I guess they expected 300 numbers.

I guess they expected 300 numbers.

They were expecting even more than that.

300 cost $65 million to make and made $450 million world-wide.  Watchmen cost $150 million to make and to date has grossed $147 million.

It'll make its money back and then some, but they were expecting massive profit on this movie and aren't going to see it.  In relative terms it basically is a flop.

I'm not sure but I would assume that they'd want to do that even more to make a few extra dollars back.

I'm sure that the R rating did keep some people out of the theater but I think it had as much or more to do with the denseness of the story as anything.  Watchmen is a very deep book that covers a lot of topics and history and even reading it I'm sure there are things that I missed.

Plus, there weren't any recognizable heroes in the film and there weren't even any real household names among the actors in the film.

And people are stupid.  Making them think about what they're watching?  What was Snyder thinking?  :P

Before Watchmen is pretty good stuff. Well, it doesn't suck, anyway. Minutemen is probably the best of the books by far, at least IMO.

Despite my initial opposition, and ongoing skepticism, I am reading them all.

Curious to see how Rorshach and Dr Manhattan turn out...the others have been ok so far. The first Comedian was a little silly, IMO.

Minutemen took sort of a creepy turn last issue, not sure what to make of that one yet.

The Crimson Corsair stuff has been pretty sweet though.
