What are some movies you can't stop watching?
« on: November 16, 2009, 04:18 PM »
My wife and I have this discussion from time to time.  We'll see a movie on TV and will flip to it.  There are some that once you start watching, you just can't stop.  What are some that you guys like?

For me some are:

Forrest Gump
Band of Brothers series
Pulp Fiction
Tombstone
Back to the Future (all of them)
Lethal Weapon (all of them)
Blackhawk Down
Talladega Nights
Anchorman
Dodgeball
Oceans 11
The Day after Tomorrow (I have no idea why either)

I'm sure there are more that I'll think of later and add.

I would be remiss if I didn't say Star Wars....

Star Wars (Original Trilogy)
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Leon
Happy Gilmore
Transformers
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Bull Durham

If my wife and I can't agree on what to watch on TV these are our standby's to watch on DVD because we enjoy watching them.
I have been told to go to hell; well at least I will know everyone there!

If I'm flipping channels just looking for anything, if I run across the following I feel obligated to watch:

The Mummy
The Fast and the Furious
Armageddon
Goonies
Any of the Harry Potter films

If there isn't a new film out on DVD that I want to watch, and I go to the shelf, I usually end up with something from Kevin Smith, like Mallrats or Clerks.  If not that, then one of the following;

Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
Transporter
Superbad
Or a super hero film like the X-Men, Spider-Man or something similar.

I think there's already a thread like this somewhere on this site, but I still hold true to The Fifth Element.  I don't catch a lot of tv, but that's a movie I must watch in its entirety everytime it's on - even though I have the DVD and have never watched the disc.  I'm sure there's lots more out there, but that's an automatic out of the hat movie for me....for some reason.

I haven't watched it in a while, but I picked up the remade Dawn of the Dead DVD a few years back and must have watched it six times in six months.  I'm not even a big horror fan, but I like the mix of Zombies with some actual character building and even a few funny parts here and there.  The elevator music during the big chase near the end is hilarious.

The Replacements and Shawshank definitely make my list - good selections.

I cannot stand The Fifth Element though - I would rather watch Waterworld looped six times back-to-back.

Two from this weekend on TCM - Lawrence of Arabia and The Magnificent Seven

Had no intention of watching either before hand, but I ended up getting sucked into both of them once I saw they were on...

I had the same thing with Harry Potter.  They were running marathons of the films on ABC Family, leading up to last night when they ran Order of the Phoenix which may have been a TV debut.

Either way, at various points over the weekend I found myself watching Potter films for extended periods of time.  Which was broken up with me reading, for hours on end, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which I'm now about 200 pages from finishing.  That'll wrap up a two month marathon of re-reading the series.

I'm sure I'll follow this all up by actually watching a marathon of the first 6 films on DVD in the coming weeks.
