MLB 2010
« on: January 6, 2010, 10:37 AM »
Hall of Fame today!

Blyleven?
Dawson?
McGwire?
McGriff?
Smith?
Alomar?
Morris?
Trammell?
Martinez?
Larkin?
Nobody?

I've said it last year and I'll say it again...Jack Morris is a Hall of Famer.  And so is Mark McGwire!  I think the black balling of alleged dopers is going to really tarnish the era of baseball we all loved in the 90's and 00's.  Baseball and newspapers were in love with these guys and now treat them like yesterdays garbage and I think that sucks.

I think McGriff and Dawson are my only maybes.

Blyleven isn't a HOFer no matter how much he wines like a little baby about it. Good for a lot of years isn't enough in my eyes.

While I think the use of drugs taints the recoreds McGwire attained during his time, those drugs weren't banned at the time, were they?  If not, then he did nothing wrong.

McGwire admitted to taking Andro which was A Legal and B Not banned by MLB...was he taking other stuff?  Probably?  Were other players including pitchers?  Yes! Were other current Hall of Famers?  Yes!  I think you are beyond naieve if you believe otherwise and you can't just blackball everyone IMO...it is not fair to their legacy.  Baseball just about was dead and thanks to 1998 with Sosa and McGwire, it recovered.

I hate that this era is getting blackballed, BUT I dont' think he's an HOFer anyway. Just the HRs aren't enough

Sounds like Dawson is in. I don't know if that's all the radio mentioned or he is the only one.

And I can only sort of hear the radio but I think Blyleven missed by five votes. Ouch.

Andre Dawson - 77.9%
Bert Blyleven = 74.2%
Roberto Alomar = 73.7%

Sooooooooo close for Bert - missed it by 5 votes!  Maybe next year.  :-\

Also can't believe Alomar didn't make it... probably regrets spitting on that ump now.  I'm sure he'll get in eventually though, just the writers making a statement - "yeah, you're good but you're a prick so you wait".   :P

Then there's the voters who feel going in on the first ballot is "sacred" and will wait til next year.

My post from another website.

Full Voting:

Name     Votes     Pct.
Andre Dawson     420     77.9%
Bert Blyleven     400     74.2%
Roberto Alomar     397     73.7%
Jack Morris     282     52.3%
Barry Larkin     278     51.6%
Lee Smith     255     47.3%
Edgar Martinez     195     36.2%
Tim Raines     164     30.4%
Mark McGwire     128     23.7%
Alan Trammell     121     22.4%
Fred McGriff     116     21.5%
Don Mattingly     87     16.1%
Dave Parker     82     15.2%
Dale Murphy     63     11.7%
Harold Baines     33     6.1%
Andres Galarraga     22     4.1%
Robin Ventura     7     1.3%
Ellis Burks     2     0.4%
Eric Karros     2     0.4%
Kevin Appier     1     0.2%
Pat Hentgen     1     0.2%
David Segui     1     0.2%
Mike Jackson     0     0.0%
Ray Lankford     0     0.0%
Shane Reynolds     0     0.0%
Todd Zeile     0     0.0%

Of the ones on this list, several should be in or will most likely be in.

I'm all about Dawson.  I also thought Blyleven and Alomar would be in this year.  I'm hoping to see Raines, Lee Smith, McGwire (who cares about the juice when hundreds of players were doing it), McGriff, and Larkin.  I'm still up in the air on Dale Murphy and Jack Morris and Edgar Martinez.  I'd like to see Mattingly in as he dominated the mid 80's, but I think too many people will remember the fall off he had from 1988 onward.

Definitely.

Congrats to him for getting that out of the way, a necessary step if he was going to be taken seriously as a hitting coach for the Cardinals (and, to some extent, as a Hall of Fame candidate).  Better to get right to it now instead of continuing to deny and letting it be a nagging issue all year for him and LaRussa.

If NY would have won a title while Mattingly was there, he'd be in.

Nice pickup by the Twins.  Now the lineup only has one hole, at third, because Punto will probably be there.  I think they can go deep into the playoffs if people stay healthy.

Didn't we re-sign Harris?  Seems like he'd be more likely at 3B than Punto, no?  Either way, Hudson can hit in the 2 spot, which I like quite a bit - Span, Hudson, Mauer, Morneau is a good 1-4.

Yeah, the Twins have Harris, but Gardy's "special little buddy" will most likely start at third.  I see Harris backing up 2nd short and 3rd.  Hopefully not, though.  Casilla is probably through with the team.  I'd like to see him and Perkins dealt for something.
