CW "ARC Troopers" Battle Pack
« on: July 21, 2010, 11:32 PM »
for McMetal - best pic I've seen so far of the ARC TRoopers.

Looks like one of them might be this guy who was unveiled by sw.com the other day-

That is insanely badass.

I'm a little disappointed they're CW3D style (not surprised of course, just was hoping for realistic).  I'll be happy to see ARC Troopers make an appearance in the toon though.  They're overdue by a long time.

Thanks a lot, I am psyched to see this as well. It was just in the corner of one of the RS pics, but I could not quite make out the details. Looking forward to some better angles tomorrow...

GH had some good shots up of this pack this morning. It looks totally sweet. The Paint Apps on the Red Dude alone are killer. (Sorry, no idea on which colors equate to ranks)

I think the rank/color designation went out the window a while ago. I think the color is now more attributed to a particular unit/squad.

Yeah, that does look pretty sweet - and I look forward to seeing them on the toon.  The original ARCs on the prior (Tartakovsky) Clone Wars series were one of my favorite parts of that show.

I'm psyched to see ARC Troopers in CW and agree they're overdue.

Good to some moving forward from what was becoming run of the mill character wise in a subject area that could touch on much much more....

When I first saw pics of the ARC Troopers BP, I thought Hasbro was releasing 3D versions of the ARC Troopers from the original Clone Wars microseries. Hmm. Too bad.

So it's the Phase II armor with the extended helmet fin from Phase I? So what the heck is this--Phase I.5?

...and yes, I realze I've become that humorless guy too mired in continuity to appreciate anything new anymore. :-\

I've always viewed the armor as somewhat modular...  Attachments are available, the Phase I can be modified to be partially Phase 2 or 3...  Especially for Special Forces, more than other regular Clones who wouldn't necessarilly have all the access to things that Spec. Forces ones do.

I'm cool with it and I like the sort of evolution they're showing too.

I think it's great that there's a sort of evolution. I can't picture (in a Star Wars galaxy sort of sense) the clone helmets just going straight from Phase I to Phase II.

What's Neyo's helmet supposed to be then, if PHase 1 is AOTC style, and Phase 2 is ROTS style?  ???

Neyo's is way out there...  Then there's the Marine's uniforms.  The "Scout" armor from Kashyyyk...

I think the armor's a constantly evolving thing in the war, ultimately.  New stuff developed for new reasons.  Some legions in the outer rim could be fighting up till the end in the Phase 1 simply because they don't get resupplied as fast or often.  You never know, ya know?

The weirdest thing, to me anyway, was how fast they dropped the color-coding for rank.  That went out the window lickity split and they've never really explained how rank's identified.  I've always assumed it's something that can be seen via the helmet only then, replacing rank because maybe droids are taught to pick off the colored armor first if possible.  Very odd though how that went by the wayside fast.

That guy is awsome and so is the rest of the pack.  Looking forward to (yet more) troopers.

I always thought of that stuff as specialist armor. There is a standard Phase 2 armor, and other accessories are added as needed. In some cases, totally different armor is used. Similar to how the Clone Pilots, ARC/ARF Troopers, and Scuba Clones all fall under the Phase 1 umbrella, yet not all of them utilize the Phase 1 armor.

Anyway, I received the Anti-Hailfire Droid Battle Pack today. The Clone Commander in that set has me even more excited about the opportunity to get four awesome ARCs that will probably use the same sculpt and accessories. The new Fordo-style pistols are great.

Well yeah, but II is already an intermediary stage between I and the OT. How many additional "missing links" do we need?

I'm all for specialization/customization, but it's getting to a point where a lot of new guys like the flamethrower trooper look nothing like a clone trooper at all, in color or design.

There's meant to be a core iconic look for the Republic Army, and you can't tell me that the average Joe on the street (in-universe or out of, for that matter) would know that that's supposed to be a clone trooper without being told.
