Target Vintage Collection 9-Figure Box Set
« on: August 13, 2010, 02:42 PM »
Target seems to be on board with the Vintage theme - this Winter they will have an exclusive 9-pack of figures - one big box that contains three vintage Kenner style figure 3-packs.

Pic/video was blurry, so I couldn't make out all nine of the figures (I think Hoth Han was in there), but hopefully we'll get some pics and/or the presentation posted and then we can figure out all the figures included.

This sounds incredibly cool too...  Dale was saying it's massive, and he actually seemed really geeked about the set.  I heard some kind of Luke, Hoth Han, Hoth Rebel, Lando, and I can't recall who else now off-hand were in the set.

FX-7, Bespin Guard and an AT-AT driver were others.

Seems like overkill...making them all in one box.

I didn't even know the vintage 3-packs existed until I saw pictures of them in a collectibles guide, so that sense of nostalgia just isn't quite there for me.

Are these repacks or repaints with Vintage deco?

I remember the packs, but never thought Hasbro would go nuts making them.  This is, to me, like the Error set at C5...  It's for the die-hard vintage collectors.  I am guessing there won't be deco variants on the set, not really anyway, and so it won't be something I'm dying to have just for the packaging.  I like the idea though.  I think it's neat.

I went back and re-viewed that last segment.  Here's what I was able to make out of the three 3-packs:

Set 1 - Bespin Guard, Lando Calrissian & Luke Skywalker
Set 2 - Han Solo (Hoth), Hoth Rebel Trooper & FX-7
Set 3 - 4-LOM, AT-AT Driver & TIE Fighter Pilot

I guess this begs the question...are these straight rereleases or slight tweaks (like real elbows on Lando and a White Bespin Guard)?  I guess we'll find out soon

Yeah, I'm thinking the "one big box" thing might deter some purchasers (or cause clearance waits again).  Although it does appear to be basically repacks, I kind of like it from the nostalgic point of view.  I'm wondering what the price will be - with nine figures like that, you'd think around $60 at least, even with repacks.  Haven't decided if I'll pick it up or not, but I might.  I know a lot of it is timing and everything, with the return of the vintage line, but I think its funny how much more "all out" they seem to be going for Empire's 30th than they did for the original Star Wars (ANH)'s 30th a few years ago.

This was a welcome surprise.

Although when we tell Hasbro we want more "Vintage"-themed stuff, I think we meant as far as figures - not packaging. We're already getting that in the basic figure line. Although it's very nice to see what the retro packaging was like.

There's 2 positive things I can say about this - 1. Nice packaging. 2. With all the straight repacks, at least we're getting the rarer, less widespread-released Bespin Guard.

I wonder why Hasbro would already(!) start repacking the new Bespin Luke! And Han and 4-LOM are currently out on basic figure cards (and it's not like 4-LOM's a chore to find). And why would Hasbro repack that version of the Hoth Rebel and not the beardless one (even though he's coming in the other Target sets)!

Great idea, but all in one box... I don't know.  And the figure choices are kind of meh.

Looks really cool.  But a complete pass.  Especially since it's got to cost at least $60.
