CW "Battle of Orto Plutonia" Battle Pack
« on: September 8, 2010, 08:20 PM »
First reported on RS, now pictured courtesy of Sandtroopers:

http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20100908/target0.html

Looks to be a straight re-pack of the Talz, Snowbi-Wan, Snow Ani, and either Rex or the generic snowclone that's coming with the new Freeco Speeder.

Kind of a day late and dollar short if you ask me. That episode is practically a distant memory. Where are they gonna slip this in - after the Mandos and Arc troopers packs? Seems like an odd choice, but whateves.

Nice to see them get some more of that Talz figure out there, but like the Utapau pack, a lost opportunity to add some newness.

Nice to see the Talz dude, which I didn't get, but they COULD have done Anakin with his hood up and Obi-Wan with the hood down. I guess it doesn't matter, since I'll likely buy it.

That's Rex.  What I find odd is that these were obviously far enough along to be shown at CV but weren't.

Of course it's Rex. It's at least three times easier to get Rex than it is his troops.

Anakin Skywalker still has a useless right hand.

Ok - a couple of things jump out at me right away on this one....

We already know that the hood-up and hood-down pieces can be swapped between the Anakin and Obi-Wan figures, so why didn't they put the Anakin in this set with his HOOD UP and Obi-Wan in this set with his HOOD DOWN?

We already have the Talz chieftan, paint ops and slightly different accessories could have made this a Talz warrior instead.

And lastly, as others have pointed out, why the hell isn't this just one of Rex's troopers? Captain Rex is an individually carded figure in the new packaging line and he's readily available. The clone with the Freeco speeder will not be.

This is going to be one of those completist purchases I hate - nothing about the set I want, but I can't just pass on it 'cause then there will be a hole in the collection.  >:(

the answer to every one of those questions is that Hasbro didn't want to change anything because change = less $$$ for them.  They know the kids will buy the set as is so they are not worried.

this is just one of those packs that they told us that either the battle pack will have a significant amount of new stuff in it or nothing at all.

Didn't Hasbro already state somewhere (Q&A?  Convention?) that they were doing less adult-focused sets with their Battlepacks for the time being, and were going to instead focus more on straight repacks to create an appealing play pattern for kids?

These fall in line with that model then, so I'm not honestly surprised at what we got.

I'll probably (maybe?  I may wait for a sale or something, I dunno) pick up the Plutonia set since I never got the Talz.

Meh, as far as the figure lineup.  I hope the Clone is the same one that's being packed with the Freeco bike.  Because this battle pack hold little to no interest for me.  Granted, the Thi-Sen figure is awesome.  But I bought that at least 6 months ago.

Unfortunately it's a repack of Rex, not one of his troopers. (Note the blue stripes and lack of soft goods).

Really?  Even more reason to skip this battle pack in that case.  I couldn't make out enough details from the Sandtroopers image to distinguish that.

If they are based on the same episode why aren't they painted the same?

Why would they be painted the same? Rex has different deco than his troopers.
