BMF really needs dusted off next year yes.

Yes please.  That's one I missed waiting for clearance and wish I had.

My finances are a little more BMF friendly these days compared to back then. :)

They're $400 to $500 on eBay at the moment and were $300 last time they were re-released. I'd guess somewhere between $300 and $400 this time?

For some reason $350 is sticking in my mind but I forget when or even if I'm just remembering wrong but yeah I would say it's gotta cost at least what the last release did.

They could always release the TFA one redone slightly I suppose.

The Death Star Playset is actually really durable given that it's mostly just little plastic supports.  I have several of them lined up to create a Death Star "Wall" and have never had any issues with them.  I think if you fell into it or dropped it down the stairs it could break, but you could say that about most ships/playsets I think.  Too bad there isn't more love for something simple like this.

I think the vintage Death Star playset is something they should strive for.  I say this because that playset is one of my prized possessions.  Hard to believe that was under $20 when it was originally released.
This is the way.

I meant more that I think it's molds are kaput.  I sold mine eons ago but oddly enough have a box in decent shape for it.  Go figure.  I should sell that too I suppose.  I liked it, but I don't know if a part cardbord part plastic skeleton type set is what Hasbro wants now or whatever...  it seems like utilizing different "play patterns" is always part of the equation anymore, kinda how the Republic Shuttke was like a ship and a base.

GI Joe had the best playsets...  huge, fairly complex...  half of them are still good custom playset fodder even.

You might be right about those molds being extinct - thought I heard that somewhere else now that you mention it.  That said, it wasn't an overly sophisticated design and I'd wager still cheaper to recreate than building something new from scratch.  The cardboard inserts were pretty cool, but not necessary.  I only display a few of mine with the inserts in, as I want to see the figures behind them.

From an interactive features standpoint, the Death Star had the following:

Swivel Gun chair with pop-off "exploding feature"
4 levels of play
Working elevator with rotating door and ability to lock at each level
Retracting mid-level floor section
Swinging rope accessory
Trap door to access Trash Compactor
Trash Compactor with working door and adjustable wall
Peg holes on each level for figure stability
Pack-in Dianoga figure & foam
and those nifty cardboard graphics inserts

That was $18 at retail.  Using a similar rate of inflation/margin creep for the figures ($1.99 then vs. $8.99 now), a similar playset should retail in the $85 range.  I would absolutely pay $80-90 for a remade version of this playset.  The new FO playset is around $200, so my expectation is that it's about 2.5x as cool as the Death Star.  If not, then they should have just remade the classic.

So Yakface continues their excellent detective work by finding images of this set. I like it. Not as tricked out as I expected for the $$$, but it's fun. Kind of glad I didn't grab the Jakks BB-8 now.

I am predicting unhappiness by most but I think that's a good point on the Jakks droid.  I figured it's a "companion" thing like a stuffed animal.  Hasbro probably looks at that ability to transform as more bang for the buck, and it's tough to blame them with a big investment involved.

That's pretty cool.  Not sore if it's $200 worth of cool.  But not bad.

They did that thing where there's labels with pictures of people on the "walls". Not surprising...just silly.

Solid mid level there, the rest...hard to tell.

This reminds me of some kind of an upscaled Micro Machines set crossed with the vintage Death Star.  It looks like it incorporates a number of different things that we've seen before:

-Catwalk
-Trash compactor (I think I saw that in the lower left)
-Interrogation room/rack
-Throne room

I still want to see some better images.
