Black Series Hyper-Real Figure Line?
« on: February 7, 2019, 03:09 PM »
Still pondering what the newly rumored Hasbro Black Series Hyper Real line will be like.  Yakface is reporting a price point of $79.99, which is honestly kind of steep.  Will it be something like the Marvel Legends 12" figure line?  That is the next closest line that comes to mind for me, but IIRC those figures had an MSRP of $39.99.  ML collectors please feel free to correct me if I'm not accurate with that number.

Not sure where to put this - admins move it as necessary.

Yakface is reporting on Hyperreal figures that may be larger than 6" figures for an $80 price point.

I'm not sure if they're taking another run at Centerpiece type figures in an attempt to compete with Koto, Sideshow, etc. or what they're shooting for.

Is the Centerpiece line officially dead?  I hope so.

I personally think the current 6" line is a great happy medium of articulation, accessories, and price point.  I like the vehicles and exclusives that they've come out with that bring more accessories, interesting bases, etc.

Would I buy a Hasbro version of a Sideshow figure for $80 or a revamped Centerpiece line?  I kind of doubt it, but will be interested to see what this ends up being.

I think $40 sounds about right for the ML ones, with the Hulk I believe being a little higher. I've personally grabbed two of them: Spidey ($25) and Cap ($10), when they were on sale at Amazon. I know I've seen Black Panther at Target for $40 though.  I'd be interested in a few (Han/Chewie if they made them), but not at $80. If the "Hyper Real" puts these closer to Hot Toys territory (unlikely), that would be interesting.

I'll pick up a Stormtrooper, but that's it.

I will probably get a couple of key figures depending on the size and cost of these, but my SW space is taxed as it is.  New lines like this or Resistance are getting easier and easier for me to pass on.  Which of course means those will be the most sought after and expensive items in 20 years.

As the resident JDer who likes most everything Hasbro gives us I have to say........ what is the point of these? Are they going after the high end collector?

Whoops - leaked  ;)

Close to zero interest in these.  I don't need another scale and don't need an in between price point (Sideshow vs. Hasbro 6").

They seem to be a reaction to the type of line Mezco is offering with their 1:12 Collective.  They are 5.5-7" figures with "real" clothes and a wad of accessories/hands/heads in the $70-90 range. (That 1:12 Collective Popeye is soooo creepy).

Interesting to see them move into this "super-deluxe MEGO-style" figure niche.  I'm firmly in the "these are not for me" group, but more power to Hasbro if they want to try something a little different than the usual 6"/12" figures.

I'm out.

"Hyper real" and "MEGO" should never be used in the same ANYTHING.

I've read some today saying the Vader looks pretty nifty in person, still think I'm out though. I mean, how many different scales/lines do we need? As a side note, I guess those rumors of a 5" or 6" line of basic figures were just that - or still to be revealed. They didn't seem to show much "basic" today anyways.

They're fools to think people would start collecting new scales at this point, especially since 6 inch is only 5 years old. Maybe the newer fans from TFA onward will enjoy them? I'll only considering buying one if they hit clearance at Target or Ross.
