Maybe I should sell some of mine. I wonder how much Lumiya would go for?

Yeah, he's changing his mind about selling customs and parts. It all started with his awesome helmets.

Paul,

My guess is not that much.  Your custom is great, but there seems to be a very fickle market in terms of what people are willing to buy/ not buy.  The primary demand is for current hot items (Clones & Clone Wars).  I don't think you'll find many bidders for a little known Marvel character.  But who knows, I could be wrong.

As AE77 pointed out to me, Uniqueness is what sells for the big $ on e-bay.
The first of a kind sells for alot and the rest gradually less.
There are a limited number of folks willing to pay huge amounts for a 3 3/4" toy.
So if you get to them first... CHA- CHING!

Which is why the grenader is doing so well... It's unique.

Your right, most people don't know who Lumiya is so it would probably go for very little. My black hole clone trooper with jet pack would probably sell much higher even though its a simplier custom to make.

Besides, its a hard thing to sell one of your customs. It's kind of like selling one of your kids (even though there are days that you would pay someone to take them. ;)) Here are some of the questions I keep asking myself.

Which one do I sell? How much? Will I miss the figure when its gone? Is it good enough to make a decent amount of money? Will it make any money? Maybe I can make a bettter version? Do I really need the money? Is it worth it?

I know what you mean... I've sold just one custom on ebay, and it didn't go for much.  But thankfully I know it went to a good home.

I've had offers on some of my Clones and Wookiees though for quite a bit.  Still, it's a tough decision.

In the past I had never understood selling your items on ebay, but recently I've had a change of heart.  For me, I enjoy the act of creating custom figures and dioramas.  But I don't necessarily have the space or funds for the volume I like to produce.  Nor am I so attached to them, I can't give them up -- they are, after all, things.  My solution is to make some specifically for ebay.  So long as they sell for more than the cost of my materials, I'm in a win-win situation since I've been able to create extra without costing me anything.  Any extra I make goes into projects I'm keeping for myself (such as the Felucia diorama).  I'm not looking to make any sort of profit, but rather to find a way I can continue my hobby of customizing without creating a strain on my finances.  In fact, if I was trying to operate this as a business, I'd be losing money based on labor costs :).

This is what happened to me.  I sat down one day and had over 200 custom figures!  I picked my favorite 100 and sold the rest on eBay (starting at $3 each).  Some - mainly Jedi and Pilot Customs - went for a good price (able to recoup what it cost to make the figure), but the majority went for $3-5 each - no get rich quick sceme, but that's fine.  I was able to get rid of them to someone who may enjoy them instead of me just trashing them and recycling the parts into more customs.

I used the cash for fodder and RotS figures so it was the best of both worlds - I made some room on my shelf by selling a lot of my early customs (which were a lot crappier - simple head swaps and what not) and got some cash so that I would keep working on better, more advanced customs for me.

Do you guys get unsolicied offers to buy your figures? I've gotten a few recently. The problem is trying to collect the money. They offer huge amount of money for customs but never seem to have the money 'right away'. Why do people offer and then flake? I mean, if you don't have the money or have to wait until 'pay day' to send a check maybe you shouldn't be buying them.
