Tonight, I've been listening to this album...

I haven't listened to any of their other albums in entirety, before - so here's a question to the Metallica fans out there... what would you guys suggest after Kill 'Em All? Should I just go in chronological order, and if so, when should I give up? I hear from alot of folks that Black is pretty much their last decent album, is this right?

One of the best albums you've never heard. Mastodon's first album, "Remission".

As far as Metallica goes, stick with the chronological order and listen to all of them. "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride the Lightning" are on par with one another, IMO. Slight edge to KEA for "Damage Inc" alone. Of course "Master of Puppets" is pretty much flawless, and while "Justice" sounds very "trebley", thanks to no basslines, it's still a thrasher. "Black album" is good example of just rocking balls out. The "Load" era stuff is good rock and roll, not metal. The "Garage Inc" stuff has some GREAT covers and rarities, and "St. Anger" should be avoided like the plague. Horrible production value. It sounds like an aborted album that was still released for the sake of fulfilling a contract.

Agreed Cory - I really like Leviathan too.  They just played a pair of shows in Dallas with The Bronx, and sadly I missed them both.

I just got back from seeing Electric 6 tonight - incredibly fun show.

I'd go with listening to Master Of Puppets next. It's by far their best album. After that, try Ride The Lightning and ...And Justice For All. The Black Album's a great album, but the stuff after it isn't as good. Load and ReLoad are decent, but like Cory H said, aren't exactly metal. I liked St. Anger more than most, I'd consider it on pair with Load. Hope Metallica's upcoming album is like their early work though.

I'll go ahead and take the chronological route... meanwhile, I've been listening to Buckethead's Colma. This wasn't at all what I was expecting, but I like it.

Well Rick Rubin is on the board for the new one, so that's always a positive. Guy loves music, considering all the genres he's had his hands in as of late.

Rob, I warmed up to Mastodon just recently. I heard "Blood and Thunder" so many times, I got sick of it, but did a blind buy on "Blood Mountain" and fell in love. I picked up "Remission" and it's just incredible. I went as far as to say that these guys, with another album or two, could make it to TOOL territory, as far as prog-rock bands go, given I think King Crimson is vastly overrated.

I'm..uhhh..currently ruining my hearing with this one.

The Berzerker's "World of Lies". It's like Fear Factory on speed, mixed with Atari Teenage Riot, and some Carcass like death metal vocals. It's an audible assault, straight up. Just..the heaviest "music" I've ever heard, but I had to own atleast one album.
