Good movie too.

Nice. I thought I was the only one who saw the movie and owns the soundtrack/score. :)

Actually I don't own either of them--the film was from Netflix and the CD is from the public library--but I want to pick up both once I have the money. :)

Superb movie, and soundtrack.  I've had the soundtrack on my MP3 player for months now, I listen to it about once a week, and has peaked my interest in more classical music.  I absolutely love the novels as well.

I got these on the way from Amazon:

Been on a Chris Ledoux kick for a while now...

There's a review here that I really couldn't agree with more by a reader -

Chris Ledoux...he may have some pop crossover appeal, but this ************ was as country as they come.  In my mind, the one positive thing to come out of Garth Brooks' career was his championing of Ledoux's authentic western flavor.

Included in this really solid collection is the aforementioned Brooks' duet (also written by Brooks) with Ledoux "Whatcha Gonna do With a Cowboy", which somehow Brooks manages to avoid ruining.  Other personal favorites are "County Fair", a classic that totally captures the magic of an evening out with yer girl at the Fair...I love the Fair.  "Hooked on an 8 Second Ride" and "Even Cowboys Like a Little Rock n' Roll" reveal the self-professed longhair inside of him.

I would also defy anyone who isn't a totally cynical prick to not be moved (and amused) by "This Cowboy's Hat", a story of a barroom confrontation between a friend of Ledoux's and a biker.  The Jake Brooks penned story goes that the biker threatens to knock the cowboy hat right off of his head.  The friend calmly explains to the biker exactly what the hat means to him, moves the biker to tears, and the biker leaves without incident.  The end of the song hints that the cowboy may have been bullshitting the biker.  Classic Ledoux.

I can even appreciate the cover of the Tom Cockran turd "Life is a Highway".  Ledoux's honkytonk-izing of the track actually makes the track listenable.  "Copenhagen" (featuring Toby Keith) is an all out fun tribute to the nasty slobber inducing **** that the cowboys love, for some reason.

The one low point of the record is the Jon Bon Jovi penned track "Bang a Drum".  Blech!  Probably the worst commercial dreck Ledoux's lent his voice to.  Aside from that, this is a winning introduction to the obstinately western, and sadly deceased, legend that is Chris Ledoux.

God Bless Chris Ledoux!
