Survivor
Survivor

One more goddamn day when I know what I want
And my want will be considered tonight, considered tonight
Just another day when all that I want
Will mark me as a sinner tonight, I'm a sinner tonight, yeah

[Chorus]
People can no longer cover their eyes
If this disturbs you then walk away
You will remember the night you were struck by the sight of
Ten Thousand fists in the air

Power un-restrained dead on the mark
Is what we will deliver tonight, deliver tonight
Pleasure fused with pain this triumph of the soul
will make you shiver tonight, will make you shiver tonight, yeah

[Chorus]

We are the ones that will open your mind
Leave the weak and the haunted behind [4x]

[Chorus]

Ten Thousand fists in the air
Ten Thousand fists in the air

Truly one of my favorite records of the last 5 years.  I've listened to it probably 80 times over the last 8 months  and finally saw the movie a few weeks ago...and its just as good.

The Bedlam in Goliath by The Mars Volta.  Freakin' incredible.  I'm not sure if I like it better than Amputechture, but it's a hell of a good album in its own right.

I'm a bit flustered.  After buying the CD last week I thought I'd check the Volta site to see if they are coming to KC anytime soon.  Turns out the were just here on 1/25.   :'(

Anyone seen them live?

Sorry John, can't say I've even heard of them.  What type of music would you say they play?

Sorry John, can't say I've even heard of them.  What type of music would you say they play?

The most basic description would be that it's prog music with a slight space rock feel at times, but I don't know if that gives it justice.  It's pretty experimental sonically - they use a lot of effects (but not excessively) on the guitars and spin off into some bizarre interludes here and there.  Lots of time changes and mood changes.  The singer's voice would fall in the "love it or hate it" category...some find it hard to digest; I think it fits the music perfectly.

Honestly it's the kind of music you have to listen to in order to understand what it's like.  :)

Near to the east in a part of ancient Greece in an ancient land called Macedonia
Was born a son to Philip of Macedon the legend his name was Alexander
At the age of nineteen he became the Macedon King and he swore to free all of Asia Minor
By the Aegian Sea in 334 BC he utterly beat the armies of Persia

Alexander the Great
His name struck fear into hearts of men
Alexander the Great
Became a legend amongst mortal men
