Are you a Hitchcock fan?
« on: March 21, 2004, 12:43 PM »
I always have been but seem to be getting into it more and more of late.  Stayed up last night to watch Frenzy and was moderately impressed.  It's been said before but Hitchcock was so far ahead of the curve in scaring/shocking people, but for the most part, without gore.  Frenzy is another good example of this.

I expect most people have seen his more common movies (Vertigo, Psycho, The Birds) but are there any fans that have other favorites that didn't achieve such notoriety?

I vividly remember watching Psycho for the first time in the campus bar during my first year of university.  Very old movie, even at that time, but still managed to scare a lot of the patrons in the bar.  We mostly laughed.  Twisted 18 year olds, I suppose. :-\

I'm a big fan of Rope, it was one of the first Hitchcock movies I saw all the way through, and I loved it.

Just finished watching The Man Who Knew Too Much last night, another good one.

Any Hitchcock movie with James Stewart is a good movie ;)

yeah, hitchcock is great. i always love the television show, have you ever been able to catch any episodes of it? it was way ahead of it's time as well, kinda like twilight zone (another of my all time favs).

if i'm not mistaken, hitchcock made about 30 movies altogether, but only like 4 are "well known" - psycho, vertigo, the birds, rear window come to mind first. i really liked "the 39 steps" - have you ever seen that one?

Hitchcock has always been my favourite director.  "Rear Window" is in my top-ten all-time movies.
Other goodies you may not have seen:

"The Lady Vanishes" - early British thriller
"The 39 Steps" - ditto above
"Notorious" - great flick with Bergman and Grant
"Strangers on a Train"
"Shadow of a Doubt"
"The Wrong Man"
