I don't champion anyone closing like some places enjoy doing but I will say TRU isn't a place I hit often.  They're not conveniently located for me, and I haven't had a good find there since the resculpted speederbike and the exclusive rebel sled n tech were on sale there. :-\

Less places to buy the worse it is for all though.

That said bankruptcy isn't the end of the line by any means.

The TRU near me always has a decent crowd of people shopping the store. They usually have a couple of cash registers open but will always let people ring up at the video game cash register. Star Wars stuff usually doesn't go on clearance but at least there is space for TLJ things. It's a fairly new store with an attached Babys R Us. I think it just boils down to poor management at a lot of stores.

A list of TRU stores that will be closing has been posted in a CNBC article.  A significant number of stores are going to be closing.

The Chino Hills one stays open. All the others around it close.

Damn, looks like our Minnesota peeps are losing Blaine, Minnetonka, AND Woodbury...that's gotta hurt. Sorry, guys.

None of the 3 in my area are closing, thankfully.

Check those addresses closely.  I was initially surprised to see the number of stores that were closing in New Jersey.  But when I googled the addresses, it turned out that most of them were Babies R Us locations.

Woodbury was converted to BRU store a while back so no loss there, but the other two are pretty popular stops.  Blaine was the closest TRU to my office so that's where I tended to do lunch runs back when shopping TRU was worth it (when retail actually got decent shipments of 3.75" figures :P).

I think that just leaves three stores in the Twin Cities - Maple Grove (which is more BRU than TRU), Maplewood, and Burnsville.  I guess I should go try to find that TRU exclusive Force Link set sooner rather than later now...

The article said stores will be closing between February and May.  So now may be the time to do just that.

Looks like every IL store that's closing is in the Chicago area... although the only one close to me isn't on the list for now.

The only close TRU near me is closing. Otherwise it's a 40+ minute drive.

Sucks.

However, can't remember buying anything there in the past year. This isn't that much of a reflection on them, because there's so little at retail I care about anymore.

My local stores are saved, probably because they're the TRU/Babies combo stores. They're always PACKED, which I find weird. Surely you can get baby clothes and diapers cheaper somewhere else that doesn't charge the TRU tax.

Yeah, the Vernon Hills store is about 10 minutes from me.  Was just there on Saturday picking up the Lego 'DJ' mini-figure.  Thankfully the one in Gurnee (15 minutes the other direction) will stay open for now.  Helps that it's in the same area as Gurnee Mills mall.  Lots of mall traffic for them to grab.

Wondering if they are going to move inventory to other locations or actually discount it to get rid of it.  Might be worth trying to get some of the larger Lego sets at a 20-30% discount.  I'm not holding my breath for that though...

That would bring them right in line with what they cost everywhere else!

Nick is right that you gotta watch those addresses close.  TRU was called dead at my nearest one but actually it’s the BRU that is across the highway that is toast.  Thank goodness because, while I don’t go there often, I like knowing that I can if they have something I want.
