People like that just need taken off the road.  I hope they see to it he's not allowed to drive legally.  Ever.

I've driven fast...  We all have, but people like that are putting others at risk, and they simply don't care.  205's a speed that's virtually uncontrollable, and if he'd have wrecked and killed himself he could've hurt someone else, or someone may have felt responsible for HIS injury or death.

Not me, but someone might've.

I have a 2002 Yamaha R6 that I've gotten up to 154 before, and still can't imagine going 200+.

I can't read the article but it must have been on a Hayabusa.

I'm also going to disagree that 100mph feels feels fast on a bike, because I think it really depends on your surrounding and what type of bike you are on.  100mph in traffic I'm sure would feel fast, esp. on a Cruiser, but 100 on a street bike on a empty highway really doesn't feel like much at all.

Please don't hate me Mr. James!

Nah, no hate.  I've done 150+ in cars, but bikes are different and what roads you're on are major influences too.

For instance, I'm speaking from Pittsburgh, not say, Omaha, which in Pittsburgh there's not a single flat, straight, highway to be found.  Nothing safe about driving like an ass around here...  Especially because roads just don't go dead around here either.

It depends where you're at...  Nonetheless though, 200+ is too much.  Guy needs to lose his license...  Really, anyone over 100, if caught, should lose their license indefinitely as well, at least to me...  It's too fast, and most don't have the experience needed to do it, but they do it anyway.

I thought Top Gun was a great movie!  Pure 80's action popcorn flick.  Still hoping for a sequel myself, though didn't Goose die on ER last year?   :'(

Boy did I want to fly fighter jets after watching that though!   8)

Geez.  Never seen Top Gun?   :o  Famous line from it:  I feel the need, the need for speed!  **hand slap between Maverick and Goose**

Classic line and total "dude moment".  Come on!   :P

But yeah, the motorcycle story was cool too.   ;)

That was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the Topic name.  Well, I guess Top Gun is now aging a few of us.  Sigh.

I've seen on man wreck a motorcycle doing a wheely - his wrist was sticking out through his skin and his helmet was destroyed.  They drove him to the hospital and I never saw him again.

I also took a photograph of two decapitated bodies in the middle of the freeway back in Florida.  Well, one was sliced in half in such a way that the head and one of the arms were completely gone.  The other wasn't so much decapitated as it was flattened - completely and utterly flattened.   The motorcycle was 200 yards down the street and in pieces.  The news paper said they were only going 80 mph.

Anyone dumb enough to excessively speed on a motorcycle outside of an actual track should have their liscence taken away permamently.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A motorcyclist who set jaws dropping across the nation last month when he was stopped for going 205 miles per hour south of the Twin Cities tells a reporter for Midwest Quick Throttle Magazine in an upcoming issue that he was going closer to half that speed, said magazine editor Pat Andrews.

The interview was apparently the first for media-shy Samuel Tilley, 20, of Stillwater, who has not spoken publicly about his record-setting ticket since he was stopped near Wabasha on Sept. 18.

"He's beside himself about the whole thing," Andrews said Tuesday evening.

Tilley said in the interview that he's not sure exactly how fast he was going because he was watching the road and another rider who was nearby, said Scottie Ard, who wrote the story for Quick Throttle. The other rider was ticketed for going 111 mph.

Samuel Tilley"He doesn't know how he could have been going 205 miles per hour, especially when the guy he was with was going 111," Andrews said.

A Minnesota State Patrol pilot saw Tilley from the air and used a stopwatch to time him as he passed quarter-mile markers along Hwy. 61. The pilot's reading of 4.39 seconds translated into Tilley's 205 mph speed.

Tilley's ticket, posted on the Internet at www.thesmokinggun.com, has fueled heated conversations among motorcycle enthusiasts, with many doubting that Tilley's Honda RC51 could reach such high speeds.

Tilley told the Quick Throttle that tests conducted recently at Hitman Motor Sports in White Bear Lake revealed his bike's top speed to be 159 mph. "You strap the bike down and power it up," Andrews said. "You check horse power, power curve and max speed on it. It doesn't lie."

Tilley has turned down repeated requests for interviews. Andrews said Tilley finally spoke to Quick Throttle reporter Brett Dahl after the two saw each other at Treasure Island Casino, where Dahl works. Dahl, an "extreme motorcycle enthusiast," found Tilley inside the casino after someone told him he was there with friends. Dahl then promised to portray him kindly, said Andrews.

Andrews said Tilley has been embarrassed by the notoriety of his ticket. "He doesn't want to be known as the person who was giving motorcyclists a bad name, or causing insurance rates to go up or even being a reckless individual," he said.

Tilley showed up at Yarusso Bros. Italian Restaurant in St. Paul on the restaurant's "bike night" on Oct. 6 to sign T-shirts, Andrews said. The money raised was sent to Gillette Children's Hospital.

"He was the belle of the ball," Ard said. "Every rider there wanted to speak with Sam Tilley."

Tilley is scheduled to appear in Wabasha County Court on Oct. 25.

See, he was probably only going 111. Nothing to worry about there, right?. I commute that fast sometimes.  ;D  Just sounds like the police had a little trouble with their clock.

I agree that it depends on the road you are on and how good a driver/rider you are.  I took a Dodge Viper up to speeds over 160 several times and topped out at just over 185 on a Vegas highway.
I could have broken that 200 mark but I backed off and didn't take it into 6th gear.

I was on a road where I could see for at least a mile in either direction and I had a Mustang running ahead of me to let me know if any traffic or cops were coming. I know it sounds nuts, but I'm confident enough in my driving skills, and had a lookout, so I figure if you're being "safe" about it, and make it a one time thing......it doesn't make you a menace or anything.
