Cancelled Rebel Tech Prototype?
« on: November 30, 2004, 06:19 PM »
So I was perusing the prototype auctions of Starfans888 (the guy with the new Galactic Heroes stuff) and one auction jumped out at me, the rebel fleet trooper.

It didn't seem as modern as the rest of his stuff, so I clicked in and discovered this:

That's the "Rebel Trooper head on the Imperial Scanning Tech body" kitbash that was planned for the second wave of Target's Accessory sets, correct?

I'd say your guess looks about right there, Bobb.  Shame, them cancelling that second wave of Target accessory sets.  There were a few pretty cool little new gadgets in them, especially this Rebel Tech one (X-wing ladder, "direction wands", etc.).

Still hoping that some of those pieces find the light of day in some other form in the future though...

***Smacks Matt about the head furiously***

You WANT this POS?

If you hated the Imperial Scanner tech, you can't like this thing.  I'm sorry.
It's absolutely ATTROCIOUS, and his accessories weren't anything special
to me either.  The traffic control batons were sort of interesting, but the ladders
were inky dinkky things...  The figure, well, simply blows.

I was anxious about the CZ-3, the Gammorrean Guard, and the Gungan sets.  I
wanted the Gam Guard one because of the kick ass scale thermal detonators in it
and the Gungan was a nice army builder with some cool accessories (namely the
binoculars the Gungan scout used).

The CZ-3 we never saw, but at least it was a new (or at least kitbashed with a new head) figure.  I'd be ok with that no matter the accessories.

The Tech though...  To me that's just a kick in the collective ding ding considering
they do have a better figure body to work with, but which they generally REFUSE
to work with.   ::)

Ugh. I have to agree with Jesse, that figure is pretty bad. But I like this part of the description:

You are bidding on a REBEL FLEET SOLDIER action figure.

I've always hated that Rebel Tech pack... If I remember right, the "wands" looked very suspiciously like the drum sticks from the ewok drum set.

Well I would have bought the crappy Yavin Tech just to get the other stuff with him.  It was a nice idea anyway.  But the only figure I was really interested in getting was the CZ-3.  I really want to see this droid made someday.  I am kind of surprised they have not put him out there yet since he's a droid.  I thought those usually sold well.
