First Movie You Remember Going To See At A Theater
« on: November 10, 2004, 12:12 PM »
We're going to bring JediMAX to his first movie this weekend...

He's officially potty trained and sat through the entire Toy Story 2 DVD last week so we think he's ready.  Anyone remember their first movie experience?

Mine...Pinocchio, which I can't figure out.  I don't think it was rereleased in the 70's anytime, so it must have been one a Movie theater screened on its own.  Still remember the whale scene pretty vividly and my mom using the be a good boy or you're going to grow a long nose trick on me.

Honestly, I think it was ET, at a special screening at the Drive In Theatre. I was so frightened, I refused to leave the car that night. I had to be carried out. I also wouldn't eat reeses pieces for the longest while either.

I bet I could. Honestly.

I've probobly only been to the theatres 20 times in my life, and about 10 of them most recently.

Can't truly say that it was the first film I went to as a child, but I remember that my mom took me to the "Sound of Music" when I was a small kid.

Unfortunately, I suffered from vertigo as a child, and when the copter shot came in at the beginning of the movie, taking the movie-goers over the beautiful spectacular views of the Alps before panning in to Julie Andrews, by head started spinning and I started throwing up.

We left, and I really think that was the last time I ever went to a movie with my mom.  She really loves that movie though.

It was a Robert Redford movie called "Jeremiah Johnson" and it was at a drive-in theater.

I believe it was this one, based on release date (1981):

but it might have been a re-release of Lady and the Tramp.

To be honest, the first movie I actually remember seeing in the theatre was Return of the Jedi in 1983.  I was almost 6.  I may have seen something before that too, but that's the only one I remember clearly.  I believe I saw Fox and the Hound at one point too, but I don't know what year.  That was one of my favorite movies growing up.

First movie my parents ever took me to see was Star Wars.  Pretty damn cool.

As for that Polar Express, the review on CNN said the characters are down right creepy.  Check out the review on their website.

Yeah I did see that HE, I also read both the reviews in the local papers and both were absolutely glowing.  Max is huge in to trains and machines and cars right now so we think this over the Incredibles would be a good choice

The first movie I actually remember going to was E.T.

There were probably others before it, but nothing affected me the way this movie did.  I still remember crying all the way from the theatre to the car, and then all the way home because E.T. went home (gee, I hope this isn't a spoiler  ;))

OCB, I wouldn't recommend The Incredibles for a toddler - my 3 year old girl was pretty spooked by the movie.  Just a little too much action for her (of course, I got a big kick out of it).

Boy, I think I out date you guys! First movie I ever saw was with my brother was back in 1968, Planet of the Apes.

I do remember my brother taking me to see James Bond's You Only Live Twice in 1967 but the people at the theater would not let me in as I was under age. The ratings really sucked back then, my brother already saw the movie & I remember him arguing with the manager, what a site that was for my age!  ;D

True story:

In '77 the family was going tp see Star Wars, but I was sick and had to stay home. My parents still say I was more upset than they thought I'd be. Maybe I knew...

a month or so later my older brother conned them into going again, and this time I was included. But SW was sold out so my first movie became...

(don't worry, the happy ending is that I did eventually get to see Star Wars...in '78!)
