Who dies AFTER they go to rehab though?

Etc., etc. . . .

Yeah, but she actually died AT rehab, like at the actual facility, not after she left, at least as I understand it. That seems weird.

Also, I think that last guy is not actually dead, based on that other thread in this forum that pops up from time to time.  ;)

Damn, that's kind of a shocker. Went through a Clancy phase for about 2 years after 9/11. Loved me some of the Splinter Cell video games.

I loved Clancy's work for what it was, entertainment.  I will miss reading his books.

However, I'm glad we still have Stephen Coonts.  I think he's better simply because he isn't as wordy, develops characters quickly, and keeps the action going.

Still, RIP Clancy.

They should have her die on the show, like Ned's first wife.

Any fans of Lou Reed and/or the Velvet Underground here? Would like to hear someone quantify exactly why he is considered so influential. I don't mean that as a dis, it just doesn't seem obvious to me from listening to the music. Is he mostly acknowledged as a lyricist?

He is one of those guys I just never "got" really I guess.

In their time, the Velvet Underground didn't do that well commercially.  But their impact was very significant on artists from the 1970's onward.  Lou Reed was punk almost a decade before punk broke.  He had (and the Velvet Underground) a dangerous edge that most rock music hadn't really explored until that time.

The turning point for recognition of them was probably when David Bowie started covering their songs in concert, and produced Lou Reed's first solo record.  Check out his New York Times obituary.  I think they really managed to sum things up rather elegantly.

Good read, thanks!

I had totally forgotten about "Metal Machine Music"...I think I still have that CD leftover from my Merzbow/Masonna listening phase.
