Also, my thoughts go out to you Hemish and your family back home.  I just cannot imagine what is happening over there
Yeah Hermish my thoughts are with you and your family as will.  Hope you guys hear from your mother's cousin soon.

This is a horrible event, more than likely the worst to date in our life times.  :'(

In terms of natural disasters you'd be right - in terms of man-made disasters you'd need to remember Rwanda and the Sudan.

Let me preface the data below by saying, any loss of life is horrible.  My friend and I were discussing some of the natural disaster data below at dinner last night.

1) Earthquake that struck the Chinese City of Shaanazi in 1556 = 830,000 people.

2) Earthquake that struck the Chinese City of Tangashan in 1976 = 255,000-600,000 people.  This is amazing as this occured in my lifetime and I do not remember it.

3) Typhoon in Calcutta India in 1737 that killed 300,000 people.

I am glad that the company I work for has made a donation and is matching employee's donations dollar for dollar if they chose to donate to help the countries that were in the path of the Tsunami.

Now the estimate is at 140,000.

I'm hoping my company will take our money for Christmas parties and donate to  the people affected by this tragedy.

Totally agreed.

Wow.  Seeing those pictures really drove home what has happened.  It's actually a shame (for my empathy of the world) that I need the pics to "understand".  No matter what crappy things go on in my life, I've got it so much better than millions of others.
