JediDefender Image Database Retrospective
« on: March 28, 2005, 11:41 PM »

We here at JediDefender are pleased to bring you a brand new weekly feature - The JediDefender Image Database Retrospective

Each week, we'll bring you brand new, brilliant high-res photos of the older Kenner/Hasbro Power of the Force 2 figures.  You probably haven't really looked at your old figures since you bought them, but after you see our pics you'll probably want to dig them out for another look.

Today, we kick it all off with the nine figures in the initial Power of the Force 2 assortment - Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and Stormtrooper!

Hope you enjoy these great high res photos!

New POTF2 shots in the Image Database
Just a heads-up - these are the first updates to the POTF2 section of the JD Image Database.

The shots are being done with a new camera, and I think our shots on these older figures are a big improvement over the older images out there on the net.  :) Since these are just getting rolling and we plan on updating them once a week, drop a note to me with any special requests or different types of shots that would be cool to incorporate into the collection.

I think these look great so far!   :)

The difference in quality between these and some of the olde pics on other sites is amazing - camera technology has come a loooooong way over the last 10 years!

I know he's fairly pre-posed, but the Sandtrooper is one of my favourite figures from the inital few waves.  The "sand" treatment is just cool - neat detailing.

^^ Damn straight. I also liked how he was the first fig to be able to hold a gun with two hands.

Good job on the figure pics, too. I still kinda like that Luke sculpt though. :-X

Shorty after Return of the Jedi, Princess Leia had a short career as a professional wrestler! :o
This is the way.

Great updates to the Image Database, and great pics.  It is fun to go back and look at these.  Although many look crappy by comparison now, they do seem to have something special about them...just the whole return of Star Wars toys to the shelves I guess.  I didn't really collect these from the get go (wish I would have though), but how many figures were released per year back then?  I thought I read somewhere there was like 12 figures in 1995.  Although it is always nice to get more figures, etc....it was probably a little easier to keep up on things than it is now.  With figure releases usually numbering anywhere from 45-60 now it seems, what were the numbers like in the beginnings of the POTF2 line, for those who remember?

I think there was about 12 figures each year in both 1995 and 1996. But in 1997, Kenner went ape**** with like 30-40 a year, a pace that Hasbro's pretty much kept constant since.

I remember hunting all those damn things and enjoying it. I still think those TRU and FAO displays for the Special Editions are still unmatched by any prequel product launches.
