Crime = not lower by capita measures.

Health care = free, replete with six month (at the soonest) waiting lists (hell, I phoned to book an annual physical and had to wait three months)

Clouds = neat, but only because of global warming :-*

Had you mentioned shopping carts in that sentence I'd have been crushed.  Too late now though.

It is fascinating that I rate as lowly as Celine Dion with you though.  Hmmm.

I didn't want to add insult to injury

Actually, I must admit that was quite a low blow and I do apologize.   :)

Hot as hell here -- 92 already with a heat index of 98 - and its still morning.  Its supposed to get to around 101 or 102 today with a heat index upwards of 108 or higher >:(

San Antonio has yet to go above 95 degrees this year, and we are finally drying out after a very wet first half of the year.  San Antonio has had over 30" of rain so far, which is the equivalent for a year's worth of rain in San Antonio.

I know I'm probably jinxing it, but this has been, seemingly, one of the mildest summers for us in San Jose. We had a 95 way back in early June, but other than that, everyday has been topping out at around 79, with last week being in the low 70s (in August!). We'll usually get at least a couple hundred-degree days, as well as at least two weeks worth of 90+, but it just hasn't happened this year. Great news for our A/C-deprived home.

However, the pessimistic scientist in me knows that these three months of below-average temps dramatically increase the chances for an above-average September/October.

i am surprised your summer is still so mild.  we got tons of rain in dallas too, but we are right back to what i would always expect in august... 100+ every day.

Last night I was playing softball in shorts.  Temp was 70 or so when the game ended at 745.  By the time I got up this morning, temp was in the 40's.  We may top out at 65 today.
