I picked up the parts from the CNC guy today - I haven't had a chance to look them over too much, but the few I checked out looked smooth! The acrylic is really clean on the edges, and since it's the cast stuff vs. the extruded I think a flame should turn the edge really well.

Exciting Deanpaul. I too can't wait to look at this. Your kids are lucky.

Expect a PM from me sometime before the holiday!

DP, this station rocks! You are doing an outstanding job! I look forward to having a reason for stopping by the house to see it when it is done!

Saw this baby up close and personal last night.  It's big, and it's bad.  Such a clean design, and the angles keep it interesting.  It's HUGE, but in no way does it resemble a giant block.  It'll house speeders, a Falcon or two, an Imperial Shuttle, and a Slave easily and with room to spare.  Also, I don't know if you guys noticed, but in pic 4869, there's a little box in the frontmost corner that smugglers, weapons, etc. can hide in.  There's a panel to cover it that's not pictured........very Falcon-esque, and a nice touch.

This could be any starport in the SW universe, and depending on how it's "staffed," could be controlled by Imperial, Rebel, or neutral forces.  It makes me wish I was one of DP's kids this Christmas.

Amazing work, DP.

This is very cool, I can't wait to see it painted up and loaded with vehicles!

It's as big as a house on walking legs,
and whatever it steps on it crushes like eggs.

Everything went really well with the project! Here are a few quick images from Chrismas Day:

Everything is working great - I still need to make the monorail car when I can locate the end spheres.

You can see more images of this project and the others I built for Christmas here.

Nice work DP!  It's just such an original piece, with so much space, it's amazing.  You worked really hard on that, and it shows.  In 30 years, they'll probably still have it in one piece!

Amazing! Your kids are so lucky to have a father like you that can make such wonderful play sets. The part I like best about this project is the clear platforms. Are you going to leave the entire set white or paint it? What if you added alittle bespin-like sculpture for the center. It could be the complex's fountain.

Oh...My...God!  What a wonderful Christmas present!!!  Your grandfather would be proud and it would touch his heart to know that his original version helped inspire to make this for your kid(s).

This is without a doubt, one of the coolest things I've ever seen anyone make.  You have totally blown me away with this.  Such detail and precision - to me, this looks almost like the ultimate Bespin Playset - it really has a Cloud City feel to it.

This deserves a front page mention here and on the cover of Toy Fare magazine...
