"Classic Character"
« on: May 2, 2005, 05:34 PM »
Fisrt off, I think Hasbro has done a great job with the initial 40 figures, and the distribution.  It seems easy to find almost any major character at the moment.  This is good for kids and families that are looking for Obi-Wan and Vader and Yoda.

Last week, I into a kid and his parents looking through the ROTS figures for Luke Skywalker.  I told the that Luke wasn't in the new movie, and that he wasn't included in the current figures.  The kid seemed a little bummed out.

In retrospect ,I wonder if  Hasbro should have included a Luke, Han and Leia in the ROTS collection.  On their bubble, where other figures say "Jedi Master", their's would say "Classic Character."

Any takers?

Hmmm... as long as it didn't interfere with the new line, I would have been ok with that.

But, we are supposed to be getting some OT characters again later this year.  The Flashback figures came out before EPI did, but it is a similar idea.

I don't know how much I agree with a great distribution though... where in the heck are all the Royal Guards?  It's ridiculous.

Funny, I ran into a slightly off-his-rocker older man in the aisle at TRU a few weeks back, absolutely pissed that he couldn't find a Luke figure. There seems to be a lot of people out there thinking that the OT core characters return in ROTS.

While I totally get that they want to stay ROTS focused this year, and their lineup makes sense to me, I’m starting to think Hasbro should have continued to ship a revamped, smaller OTC line simultaneously. Put it on the same shaped cards, but retain the OTC look, with a black and silver Vader. Keep it down to a small assortment of core characters, and just keep those people happy. It would have been a nice side-line that didn’t get in the way of the ROTS onslaught, I think.

Not a bad idea.

But I'd want it to be clearly distinguishable from the ROTS line, such as OTC colors like you say. We don't want somebody getting his hopes up, "Hey look Han Solo's gonna be in ROTS!!!!1!11!!1one!!", when he just hasn't looked closely enough at the card.

Kind of a neat idea.  Maybe under Classic Character, in small print, the label could say: "Not in Actual Movie" or something similar.

It'd have to be the Cantina Han though, I could never find that figure if my life depended on it.

You could have handed him a Padme figure and said Luke was included.  ;)

Actually they should have a Padme or somebody with the baby twins out right now.  It would be as interesting to the casual, nostalgic fan as Vader or Chewie would be.

This is fine, but if your listening Hasbro, please make these shortpacked figs at one per case.  Only collectors and the occasional kid will want them.

Maybe they'll have one of those Polis Masan medical droids come with the kids?  Makes perfect sense to me.

I would prefer two screen scenes.

Tatooine: Owen, Beru, Cliegg & Baby Luke

Alderaan: Bail Organa, Queen, Bail's Aide & Baby Leia

If they did something like that I would be very happy.

Didn't Hasbro mention they weren't going to do the baby twins?

I thought I heard that, but I can't remember **** anymore.

I'd personally like to see them, be it in a Screen Scene or with a Padme next year.

Edit (Spoiler)-- they could stick a baby Luke accessory with an Obi-Wan w/ Eopie, if they felt like an Eopie reissue.
