ROTS 's PG-13 rating justified ?
« on: June 4, 2005, 12:58 AM »
Do you think it should have deserved a PG-13 rating ?

I kinda feel it was more of a "  look at our movie people " advertisement .

I didn't find the saber chopping that much worse than the other films. More yes but I think most people even kids are used to it by now. I remember more people in the theaters being upset over the ewoks that were killed than the new padme scene.
And it's supposed to be more emotional but people were emotional with the originals back then too.
I suppose it's all perspective.

I remember PG films of old had plenty of violence , blood and even some nudity and nobody said anything.

The last time I watched the film was on a Saturday with my gf and her sons...  I saw it with about as "general" an audience as I have so far...  Random people, many who decided to go see it on a whim I figure.

The one scene people kinda gasped at, and what I think earned the PG-13 rating, was Anakin burning...  I was sort of taken aback by the people around me and how they reacted.  I heard some kids start murmurring, one little cried a little...

The chopping, slicing, and dying was kinda played down, but Anakin's part I think is what earned any PG-13 rating.

I agree.  The dismembering wasn't any more gruesome than it has been before in SW.  It was the immolation scene.

Yes it deserved the PG-13 rating.  Easily.  This is the problem.  If Lucas gets to slap on the PG rating then  ALL of the parents in the world think it will be just like all the other films...safe.  This one is not as safer as the other 5.  At least not for little kids that generally go to PG films.

This one has the hero going bad, getting his legs and arms lopped off, burnt alive, painful screams, hero's wife choked almost to death, while pregnant, some scary music, deformed faces, kids being killed by the hero, etc. etc.  As a whole it's too much for some kids and there needed to be a warning.  If there had not been could you imagine the outcry.   It would have been bad news.

Most kids can take it I realized that.  However, the second showing featured not one, not two, but three different children crying at various points during the film.  Not just at the burning of Anakin either.

One kid lost it while seeing Kenobi and Yoda looking at the dead padawans.  Another during Palpatine's face getting deformed.  Another kid was escorted by his parents during the Padme's pregnancy screams.  I think one of the same kids mentioned allready was murmuring or crying when Anakin burns.

Am I the only one im the Immolation scene who wanted to yell "Flame on!" when Anakin popped aflame?

Anyway, yeah I definatley think it was worth the PG13...

I think the Anakin dismemberment scene and catching on fire warrents a PG-13 rating without question. My five year old is dying to see the movie, but I know she would cause a big stir durring that sequence. The MPAA made the right call.

My 5 year old daughter said it's not nearly as scarry as the Exorcist.

And my 2 1/2 year old liked watching Anakin burn, because he's bad. I mean Anakin is bad, not my son.

What was the Exorcist?  R? Most movies probably are not as scary as that.  LOL!

For every 2 year old kid that likes seeing Anakin burn we get another 2 year old kid that crys watching the trailer.

:-*

But only about the Exorcist comment.

I took both of them and they loved it. It was their favorite Star Wars yet.
