What the hell are they riding?
« on: June 8, 2005, 02:10 AM »
See these clones on the right...what is it that they are riding on? I never heard of any creature such as this.

If anyone can identify this creature, many thanks in advance.

I know I wish that thing was more...um...viewable in the film.  I think someone had a pic of it from the ROTS visual dictionary with the name and all that good stuff?  I might be confusing info though in my head.  I would actually buy a toy based off of that.  I doubt that will ever happen.  It reminds me of the Sandtroopers riding Dewbacks in ANH.

I imagine it's native to Felucia, which is why we haven't seen it previously.

There's a great picture of that clone and his mount in the ROTS movie program.  Alas, there is no description of the creature, it looks like a giant slug.
This is the way.

I have spoken.

Felucia seems to be chock full of easter eggs.  You've got Clone Troopers riding anything that will move, in fact.  There's AT-TE's, AT-AP's, walker transports, Swamp Speeders and now yes, slugs.  :P

In the starwars databank it says its called the Felucia ground beetle or a gelagrub. It also says its in its larvae form in that pic.

There's so much of Felucia that I wish we'd seen more of.  Here's a good pic of the Gelagrub -

That's definitely a beast assortment figure I'd have on my want list.  Small, pretty neat looking.  So long as they AT LEAST used the TE Gunner's body for the figure riding him and not a static posed rider, that'd rock.

Cool planet...  One of the better additions to the SW universe I think just for its surreal looking landscape.  It departs from some of the "earthly" looking planets seen across the Saga.  I liked that aspect of Felucia.  Those freakish slugs just add to it. :)

You know, I can understand why the troops on Tatooine wanted to jump onto a Dewback. After all, it's a big, tough mount, and probably intimidates the heck out of passers-by.

But why some Clone Trooper would jump on a Slug, I have no idea.  Unless it was like that racing snail from "The Neverending Story" it would be a lot slower than you could walk.  Plus, it's probably really gooey.  ;D

Was this the creatures that Obi and Ani used for a diversion battling the separatist droids in 'Labrynth' ???

I think Hasbro DOES have an idea why a trooper would do that. Just look at the Dewback Ass-slimed sandtrooper in the evolutions set. Looks like beer ***** TP- he doesn't appear to mind!?

Looks like some sort of decapede. My guess is that 10 legs means it can move pretty fast.

There's a few paragraphs about the life, biology, and physiology of these things on page 50 of the new Insider with Bly/Gree on the cover.
