This certainly brings a smile to my face, although it will be interesting with Gates being a restricted free agent next year with this signing:

Antonio Gates signed a $380,000, one-year contract Sunday night to end his holdout with the San Diego Chargers.

The record-setting tight end still appears headed for a three-game suspension, including the season-opener against Dallas, for missing a team-imposed deadline to report to camp.

But check it out in the NFL this year:  Javon Walker, held out, Packers said show up, he caved in.  Terrell Owens, got him nowhere fast.  Hines Ward, caved in.  Antonio Gates, Chargers took a real hard line, Gates caves in and gets suspended to boot.

Do they really think this technique works or something?

Its more the agents than it is the players.  Agents need to look tough to other potential clients and so they pull bull**** like this.
