Have you ever passed
« on: August 29, 2005, 02:08 AM »
On Friday night I went hunting from 9:00pm until 1:00am. As I was l leaving the wife said, "Oh, you are going out tonight. I was thinking we could go with the kids and get a soda or something sweet, then come back and have dessert." Well, I know what dessert she met and that was really hard to pass up. IF I hadn't been going hunting with a friend, I would have pass.
Well, I found nothing that night and instead of having a romantic evening with my wife, I sat next to or talked to my friend who is definetly not as good looking as my wife. Well out trying to find the Sith Evolutions, the motto hit me; Sith or Sex? Well, that night I did not pick up the Sith and when I got home and she was asleep I hit the double wammy of not getting anything that night! The moral. The Sith will always let you down, take the wife!
So the question is, have you ever passed on a romantic evening for something to do with collecting, and then lived to regret it? What motto would you use to describe the night?

For me, real life always comes before collecting.

I love collecting..it's fun, but I love people more. I'd never take collecting over Denny's or a movie. :)

I'd never pass up a night with my gal for SW figures, especially that Sith Evolutions thing.

I don't think I've ever specifically passed up lovin for something "collecting" related, but that's probably because I do most of my hunting on the way to work.

Now, I know I've probably missed out on "potential opportunities" due to Star Wars related activities (staying out too late at a convention, or going to some collector's meeting and not coming home until late).....but I can't imagine specifically turning my fiancee' down in favor of going to hunt for toys.

On the other hand, several years ago....I remember turning down a girlfriend's advances in favor of playing Quake 2.  I was way too into that game.  ;D

Well... it's hard to say.  I used to think that you can't take your collection too seriously, but if it means that much to you, so be it!

I don't think I've passed up a night of sex before necessarily for Star Wars, but I have before to hang out with my friends.  If going out of a Star Wars toy run is fun, then it's not any different than going to the bars or to a ball game with a buddy.

I do know that I've missed out on a night of romance before to go out with a friend, then afterwards we went on a toy run though.

Either way, you'll make it up to her.   ;)

I did spend that week in Indy for Celebration 3.  Other than that, not on your life!  I'd pay the premium to get my crap off eBay first.

To clarify, I missed out on Friday night, but Saturday was a different story! I have an awesome wife who not only tolerates my collecting, but gives me the freedom to pursue it as long as it does not impact our investments, or our family budget.  I get $100 a month to spend and when it is gone, it is gone. Actually, makes it nice.  Then if we are out and I find something she'll usually agree to pay for it out of our discretionary budget.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone ever felt like they got too much into collecting?

BTW, a friend of mine made a good point; at age 40 with two kids, going to find the Sith is ALOT cheaper then the possibility of another kid . . . .

Oh absolutely..I've cut back on collecting this summer and got a job to finance whatever else I pursue, but I definately don't collect as much as I used to. it just got out of hand.

I can't kill you on that Black Dog.  The way I see it, if you were a single guy who hasn't gotten any in 2 years, and passed up a night with some hottie to find a sith evolutions set, I'd be left with no choice but to call your heterosexuality into serious question.  But being married, or in a long-term relationship, is a totally different thing.  If the evening is going to be spent with your wife or girlfriend like it has been the previous 800 days, then yeah, go ahead and hunt for that star wars bounty.  I don't need to know anything about anyone's particular marriage to know that the same desire and urgency for a passionate "dessert evening" isn't as strong as it was on day 1 with that person.

This is what happens when you invade Wakanda
