The ones that come to me will only state they are charity auctions in the description, not the title, and the proceeds will go to Darth Ennis. Hopefully JD and the other sites will still link them. (I believe they will.)

I too already did an overall donation to Katrina; for my part, the customs auction will be to help out one of our own. (Darth Ennis.)

But I think it's great that others are going through Missionfish and giving on a larger scale. No matter how the political hacks try to divide us or make this a racial issue, it's nice to see us just come together as Americans and help, proving them wrong yet again.

You know it would be great to see these auctions continue in an on going basis. They won't change the world but they will help make it a little bit better for a few.

Just a heads-up to DD and anyone else who might be using PayPal for their charity auctions:  A few weeks ago when Katrina first hit, another forum I am a member of set up a PayPal account and asked its members to contribute.  Since the site has one of the top 10 largest membership rosters online, a lot of money was raised in a very short period of time (30 thousand bucks in less than eight hours).  Without even checking with the account owner, PayPal shut the account down and froze the money, saying they had "received reports of fraudulent behavior."  They continued by saying that they would not unfreeze the account until the account owner supplied them with shipping numbers for the purchases made through the account (which of course were nonexistent since nothing was being sold).

PayPal also was going to skim their usual service fees off the top of the money that was going to charity, regardless of the fact that it was being done for people in need.  I guess PayPal really needed to buy that XM Satellite Radio for the people who are never there for customer service calls.   ::)

I don't know how you guys are handling the actual charity donations, what you're using for payment methods, etc., but I just wanted to alert you to the fact that even though it's being done for a good purpose, PayPal is, as always, out for itself.

Oh, and the account was eventually unfrozen and all money was refunded to the individual donors' accounts (who went on to donate directly to the American Red Cross instead of using PayPal as an intermediary), but only because the situation was reported from one side of the internet to the other and PayPal wanted to avoid a PR nightmare that resulted from them taking charity money for their own operations.

DP, that sounds like a crazy mess!  Hopefully what we're doing here won't end up causing any confusion...

Anyways, here is my contribution, a Darktrooper.  Maybe someone who never got the EU version, or wants a different concept on the figure will want to bid on this.

I will be mailing it to DD this week, and would like whatever proceeds from it to go to Darth Ennis.

:P

Thanks Phruby, hopefully it will take in a decent amount.

I decided that it might be best to have a close up of it too, so here is a close up.

As soon as I start seeing the figures show up in the mail, Master Phruby.  :P

Should be this week... and I'll be throwing my Shadow Commander up there too.

Are they going to be put up all at once or one at a time? I wonder if they would compete against each other if they are all posted at once. What about posting them as a lot?

CHEWIE - that darktooper is great, I'm sure it'll sell well.  Nice choice.

Phruby - I don't think selling these as a lot would be that good.  Things never go for as much in a lot, at least from what I've seen.  I think that putting them all up at the same time would not be that bad of an idea; most of the customs are varied enough that I don't think they will really compete against one another.  Plus, we want to make it easier on Red5Sixx - it might be annoying to coordinate a bunch of different charity auctions.
The scariest thing that I've ever seen,
Is the terrible AT-AT walking machine.
It's as big as a house on walking legs,
and whatever it steps on it crushes like eggs.

Now am I allow to bid on these from Red5Sixx or is that a conflict of interest? I want Chewie's darktrooper.

Well I just sent the Darktrooper today to DD.  Funny how many different hands will touch these figures before they eventually reach their final home.   :)

Sure Phruby, I don't see why you can't bid on it.

I don't think there's any conflict of interest when bidding on a friend's customs.  I think the point is that it could APPEAR that way to others.  In my book:  bid away if you want it!

Looks like Bill over at CreatureCantina.com was nice enough to give us a plug to help pimp our charity auctions as well. Thanks Bill  ;)
