Be on the lookout for Silver Surfer quarters.  It sounds like there will be about 40,000 in circulation this summer.

Cool marketing idea.

Must have been a lot of work to work with the Mint in regards to producing legal tender with a comic book character on it.

yeah...everytime I think about this it makes me a little sick.  When did our nation's currency get a "this space for rent" attached to it?  If the mint wanted to make some commemorative coins, fine.   For it to be legal tender, and an ad campaign?  Absurd.

I agree. What next? Viagra ads? New on DVD releases? Actual Schrute Bucks?  :P

The Silver Surfer quarters were NOT made by the US Mint.  The government was not involved really...

The Franklin Mint (a private company) took legal US California Quarters and stamped a full-color Surfer artwork on the California side.  If you look closely at the high-res image you can still see the California artwork on there, it's just harder to see with the color stamped on it.

It's kind of similar to people writing a web address or graffitti on a dollar or something.  And it's not the first time someone has done it - the Franklin Mint has been doing this for years for other promortions, it's just the first time someone is using it to sell a movie.

Possible spoiler??

Heroes had a nice, long, preview for this(rise of the silver surfer) last night on their season finale.
My personal feelings about that trailer were that they gave away too much about the plot and story in the trailer and now I feel like it's a rental >:(.

The SS was asked to stop doing this and he claimed he can't....so you can see the obvious 'he's really a good guy like we knew but is being controlled/forced to be bad' storyline black and white. Which leaves me nothing to desire an obvious plot where the good guys (F4) turn the suspected bad guy to good. Boring

Not sure how you would think its boring or find that surprising. Thats pretty much what happens in the comics. If its true to the story i am good with it.

yeah....i was totally bummed when Spiderman turned out to be just another average joe gets superpowers, learns to use them, learns to strugggle with personal life, coming of age story.
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

I wasn't...I like Spiderman's story-he seemed more personable then the other comic heroes.

My point was how much I hate trailers that give away too much is all, NM then.

well i can certainly agree with that...especially the "next week, on ...." for lost and heroes.  I don't watch them.

It sounds like He-Man is coming (back) to the big screen.  Hopefully it will be better than the Dolph Lundgren version from 1987.  This article mentions that they might be using "using the kind of visual effects strategy employed in 300".

Great news. Even though it might be four years until we actually see the movie, much as it was with Transformers.

It is now sounding like the U.S. Mint is not too pleased with these quarters, and they may be considered "illegal".  If any of these happened to get out to anyone, I'm sure these would be considered quite the collectible.

It sounds like the Teen Titans are on their way to the big screen as well now, or at least in the early stages.

Sweet - about time DC got going on something other than Supes and Batman.  Wonder if it will be the old lineup, 80's lineup, or current lineup?

All the rumors that I have seen say it would be mostly the 80s "All-New" line-up - Nightwing, Cyborg, Starfire, Changling, Raven, etc.  Much like the Cartoon Network version was, but with Nightwing in for Robin (due to licensing).  Plus some "new" characters for marketing I'd assume.   ::)

They say that the "younger" Titans are all linked to "other" franchises (Robin = Batman, WongerGirl = Wonder Woman, Kid Flash = Flash, etc) so any hopes of a what I consider the real "Teen Titans" movie is pretty much out.  Also would rule out a "Young Justice" movie for the same reasons...

Thundercats may be on its way to the big screen as well.  Transformers hasn't even opened yet, but everyone seems to be jumping on the 80s toon/toy bandwagon :).
