I'd just fear Depp would be all Depp in the role.

Depp has the look for the role.  And he's well connected with Disney.  But I think my reservations about him are the same as Bill's.  Johnny Depp seems to inject this air of camp into almost any project he's involved in these days.

I know there was a lot of talk about Joaquin Phoenix playing the part.  What I also heard there was that he was interested, but also concerned about the amount of CGI the project would require.  And evidently his concerns are that he feels more of a need for practical effects that he could interact with as an actor.  I know that Ewan McGregor expressed similar concerns about the production of the PT, so I don't think it's an insignificant consideration.

Ethan Hawke seems like an interesting choice.  He can pull off the look.  As for the character?  I honestly don't know enough about Dr. Strange to say one way or the other.

He's Reed Richards + Tony Stark, except with MAGIC!

Benedict Cumberbatch cast as Dr. Strange

They'd be fools now not to pit him against Loki at some point.  The line of women on opening night would stretch for miles.

NICE!  Benedict Cumberbatch is very cool casting for this.  Especially in light of Joaquin Phoenix being a flake about the whole process.  And in total contrast, Cumberbatch really seemed to get into the whole mo-cap process for playing Smaug in The Hobbit.  So I can see him getting into Dr. Strange in a big way, too.

Well, he can certainly pull off the smug, arrogant pre-magic Strange. I just can't picture him with the proper facial hair...

Black Panther concept art.  Chadwick Boseman (Jackie Robinson in 42) is the actor.

Captain America:  Serpent Society??

It was a joke.  After the movie announcements, they showed a clip of A:AoU with Cap and IM talking / arguing and then immediately went to the real Cap 3 title.

I keep going back and looking at that Black Panther costume (apparently he'll be in Cap3).  For something so basic and all black, that is one damn sexy costume.

And we were told that there was a BP teaser in the recent AoU trailer, which is 100% likely Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaw (remember the random bearded man in the middle?)

So, if you mix everything together, you get...

05/01/15 - Avengers: Age of Ultron
07/17/15 - Ant-Man
03/25/16 - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
05/06/16 - Captain America: Civil War
08/05/16 - Suicide Squad
11/04/16 - Doctor Strange
05/05/17 - Guardians of the Galaxy 2
06/23/17 - Wonder Woman
07/28/17 - Thor: Ragnarok
11/03/17 - Black Panther
11/17/17 - Justice League (Part I)
03/23/18 - The Flash
05/04/18 - Avengers: Infinity War (Part I)
07/06/18 - Captain Marvel
07/27/18 - Aquaman
11/02/18 - Inhumans
04/05/19 - Shazam
05/03/19 - Avengers: Infinity War (Part II)
06/14/19 - Justice League (Part II)
04/03/20 - Cyborg
06/19/20 - Green Lantern

- Just stop and look at that for a minute.  That is ridiculous.  And it doesn't even include the Fox stuff or the Sony Spider-Man stuff.  At what point does regular, non-fanboy America put their hands up and say "enough already with all the super-hero movies!"

- One more thing, made clear again by the Marvel announcements today - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still a horrible movie title.   Great name for a legal essay examining the Batman v Superman court case though.

Wow.  They're going with an Inhumans project?!?!  SERIOUSLY?!?!?!  Marvel Studios is definitely getting ambitious.  But I think after the success they had with Guardians of the Galaxy they're more inclined to take some risks with some lesser known characters.

There definitely seems to have been a trail leading up to a Black Panther movie.  Pretty much from the time they introduced Vibranium.  And now with Andy Serkis seemingly cast as Ulysees Klaw and being featured in the Avengers - Age of Ultron trailer?  Top that off with a story line in A-AoU that looks like Ultron will be seeking out Vibranium for his own use?  Black Panther seems like a natural fit for that story.  And I wouldn't be surprised if he pops up in some capacity in Age of Ultron.

But I'm also surprised by what was NOT announced.  Like?  No Black Widow solo film.  No Hulk solo film.  And no mention of Iron Man 4.  I know that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said that Black Widow will be a major player in the upcoming Avengers projects.  And that may be why there won't be a Black Widow film in the immediate future.

I'm personally disappointed that there was no Hulk film announced.  Banner & Hulk were just AMAZING in the first Avengers film.  Joss Whedon figured out how to make use of the character so well.  But still, the first two Hulk movies proved to be a challenge.  And I think that Marvel Studios is probably still trying to find the right story and script for a Hulk solo film.  Maybe if someone like say, Joss Whedon, takes on the project, then maybe this movie would work!

I'm still a little bummed that RDJ is only up for doing the Cap 3 movie and Avengers films.  He's been awesome as Tony Stark.  And he can totally carry one of these movies on his own.  I would just hate for Iron Man 3 to be the last of the Iron Man solo films.  But I can't say that I was disappointed that there wasn't a Hawkeye film announcement.  I think the character needs some more development in future Avengers films before he can anchor a film of his own.
