An immigrant (Hanks) from a tiny Eastern European country fleeing war is stuck in a New York City airport terminal when the war causes his nation to cease to exist, nullifying his passport and paperwork. Homeless, he lives in the terminal, befriending the staff and falling in love with a flight attendant (Zeta-Jones).
But since we're now discussing all movies... Who else is actually considering seeing The Riddick Chronicles? The movie seems retarted, and Vinny is tired and over-rated as an actor in my book... but I bought into his character way back in the Pitch Black days. I kinda hoped they'd expand on him in a comic or something... now I've got a movie. Okay.
Bah, I came here to discuss BAD MOVIES, not just movies in general. Matt you are one big merging machine. >:(
...
Edit - I'm a dumbass who can't read. *runs to the BAD MOVIE thread*
Simply amazing. Best movie experience since Return Of The King. This is my kinda sci-fi. Give me more, please.
As for the Chronicles of Riddick bashing here, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that Cory liked it, and his good pal Depmode actually LOVED it:QuoteSimply amazing. Best movie experience since Return Of The King. This is my kinda sci-fi. Give me more, please.

Go figure... :P
The weekend's other new wide release, Jackie Chan and Steve Coogan's "Around the World in 80 Days," came in at No. 9 with $6.8 million for the weekend and $9.6 million since opening Wednesday.
7. THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK $8,271,000 $41,354,000
On a personal note of glee, Riddick is on a fast and furious (hahaheehee) plummet out of the top ten:
Do any of you go to the theatre more than once, or do you go...and wait out the DVD/VHS offering?
The only movies I have seen more than once at a theater in the last 5 years has been Episodes I and II and all three LOTR movies which I saw twice each
Ususally, we go and then buy the DVD if we liked the movie.
Multiple veiwings are a rare occurance these days, usually reserved for SW, LOTR...
Do any of you go to the theatre more than once, or do you go...and wait out the DVD/VHS offering?
Oh. How was the movie? Well, for what I can recall, it was ok. It definitely wasn't classic King Arthur and the round table, but if you want details, ask someone else cuz I didn't really get much of a chance to see and enjoy the movie. I wonder if tranquilizer gones are sufficiently small and quiet to bring into a theater. Hmm.
In fact, ALL of the previews I saw before Spider-Man 2 sucked:
Thunderbirds
Jeff
You just need to be a bit more cynical
So what is the verdict on "I, Robot"? It was No.1 at the box office this week, and I've read mostly positive, if not remarkable, reviews, but no one I know bothered with it. Anyone check it out?
I'm a big fan of Alex Proyas's The Crow and Dark City, so I'm hoping this isn't too much of a sellout.
Forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but has anyone seen the trailer(s) for the movie "Saw"?
Looks like the new "seven." But potentially more graphic.
Here's the website - there's a trailer or two in there someplace:
Saw: The Movie (http://www.howfuckedup.net/)
Waiting For Guffman is on HBO right now...
I'll tell you why I can't put up with you people, because you're bastard people, that's what you are, you're just bastard people and I'm goin home and I'm gonna bite my pillow, that's what i'm gonna do!
Got a chance to see Sky Captain tonight thanks to none other than Phillip Wise getting us on a sneak preview list.
Absolutely loved it.

For fans of film scores, another giant has died:
Elmer Bernstein dead at 82 (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=493&ncid=790&e=2&u=/ap/20040819/ap_en_mo/obit_bernstein)
He wrote the score for The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, and True Grit. And yes, he also did Stripes and Airplane.
This comes just a few short weeks after Jerry Goldsmith. We're losing the great film composers fast. Then we're stuck with the modern guys, who really haven't risen to anywhere near the skill these guys had. :(
Anyone planning on checking out the new Jet Li movie Hero this weekend? I saw the trailer last night and it looked pretty decent, similar to Crouching Tiger in some aspects (with the flying fight scenes and stuff)
I paid too much for an R2 DVD a while back. If you didn't like CTHD, you'll hate Hero. It takes a lot of the more artsy aspects of that movie and amplifies them tenfold. Some stuff looks amazing, but I was really left empty by the whole thing.
Got burned on Crouching Tiger. It was average to me and not Theater worthy. Wish I waited for video release.
really? i absolutely loved it. so much, that i'm going to have to go and see it. i thought it was actually a little better than crouching tiger, but i have to give that movie props for being awesome as well.
- The porno Eli watches is more "explicit."
- Additional footage after Eli shows Matt the tape.
- Additional nudity in the strip club.
- The "lap dance" scene has the strippers naked, not clothed.
- Additional dialog from Kelly after beating up Matt.
I have a very important question for anyone who bought The Girl Next Door on dvd today.
In the unrated version, does Elisha Cuthbert get naked.
Saw looks like one scary piece of ****. I can't wait for the part where the guys cut their legs off. I hope it's gory and intense.
OK, just got back from seeing "Saw" and it is hands down the must f-ed up movie ever! It's not only scary but it totally screws w/ your head. I'll be thinking about that movie for a few days. My buddy and I talked about it the whole drive home. Totally insane.
Defintely. Saw might just be the most ****** up movie I've ever seen.
This really has to be about the worst movie I've seen all year, except for Shrek 2, which is on my Bottom 10 list. God that movie is shittastic.
Watch "The Holy Mountain", it's got a man (amongst other things) who can travel directly thorough mountains by dematerializing his flesh and re-materializing it on the other side, however he can only achieve this feat in a horizontal fashion, never actually being able to climb to the peak! Just watch it, dammit!
I hope you're joking about that Shrek 2 comment, Jared. That was one of the funniest movies I saw this year, if not the funniest. How could you not like Shrek 2??
We saw "Mystic River" this weekend :-\
I liked it a lot :) Sean Penn is one of those actors that I can't help but have a Man-Crush on something fierce
So....whistles and walks out of the thread
I was able to witness the hilarity that is Elf yesterday for the first time. I laughed so hard during parts of that movie. It is destined to become a holiday classic for me, one of those movies that I have to put on at some point every holiday season. So far, my list of Holiday Classics that NEED to be watched at least once every year around the Christmas holiday are (in no particular order):
1) A Christmas Story - I usually don't bother with the DVD of this since TBS has their annual 24 hours of A Christmas Story ever year. 24 hours of this film in a loop. What more could you ask for?
2) Nightmare Before Christmas - more of a Haloween movie to me, but still a flick that I need to watch every year at this time. Of course, being a huge NBX fan, it's a movie that I watch all year round several times.
3) National Lampoons Christmas Vacation - need I say anything about this movie?
4) The Grinch Who Stole Christmas - the Boris Karloff narrated cartoon one, not that Jim Carrey atrocity.
5) The Year Without A Santa Claus - Heat Miser and Snow Miser are the greatest characters ever.
6) A Charlie Brown Christmas - another great classic.
7) Christmas Eve on Sesame Street - saw this when I was very young, and just loved every minute of it.
The Santa Clause - Tim Allen's Christmas film was a classic in my book. Very funny, great family flick. Not that I watch it with my family, but... whatever.
There are probably more, but that's just off the top of my head.
I think Hayden is actually good, I've some other stuff he's been in and he's actually a decent actor. I think the person who really struggles with it all is Natalie. She was totally emotionless in EpI and then not very realistic in her compassion in EpII (I didn't think)
The star of the Prequels as far as I'm concerned is Ewan, he's been amazing and it'll be neat to see him grow from young Obi to hermit Obi over the course of the 7 years.
Herbie has Lindsay Lohan in it, does it not? I may have to bring Max to see that one :o :)
2) Catholic school girls are annoying, and need to shut up. Don't they have nuns that beat them anymore?
Sin City kicked ass.
If you don't spend too much this weekend, go see this flick.
:o
I agree with him pretty much 100% ;D
Um, anyway...
I just have *****'s there, I don't even know what you were trying to say!!Um, anyway...
What, calling out rubbish casting for a rubbish 2005 movie isn't valid subject matter?
That's Jessica Simpson wearing Daisy Dukes. Bah.
I shall now go chill out.
For the love of God, please go see Napolean Dynomite. Funniest show of the year, yes, funnier than Anchorman.
It was one of those times where I felt I was liking something 98% of people surrounding me hated.
Batman Begins is for morons.
The film has no interesting villains. No Catwoman, no Mr. Freeze, no Penguin, no Poison Ivy, no Batgirl.
This is the fifth of the big-budget Batman flicks...and they’ve saved the worst for last.
Nothing about the relationship between Batman and his adoring young sidekick-***-roommate-***-jailbait Robin, although their dark Bat Cave does have only one bedroom and … but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Batman Begins was awesome, Nolan knew what he was doing- second best film of the year.Behind what?

That's a pretty red x, but I've seen the pic in question.what red x? ;D
I think the skull needs a little work, but that's just based on that one pic. The bike kicks ass, though.
Statler and Waldorf Review Movies (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/24/film.muppets.reut/index.html) Sounds like via Movies.com, the old men from the Muppets will be doing movie reviews. Although many reviews don't necessarily mean anything, I think I'd enjoy watching these two review movies. Always a fan of the old Muppet show when I was a kid (and now), and glad to see them starting to come back a little bit now. Might be interesting to see.
King Kong trailer tonight. (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050617/laf009.html?.v=13)
Plus, I saw a shot of Kong's face on USA Today's front page. He looks like this. (http://www.theonering.net/scrapbook/view/15938)
Now I need to get out and see Batman.
Saw War of the Worlds today. Good stuff. Though there was some retard that kept laughing at every part.

As far as the sappy ending, I'm glad the Speilberg sticks to his guns. It seems that people these days want down endings, but he doesn't care, and does it his way.
I really hope the Thing suit doesn't look this bad in the rest of the movie. (http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/mf/frame?theme=minfo&lid=wmv-56-p.1367434-149690,wmv-100-p.1367435-149690,wmv-300-p.1367436-149690,wmv-700-p.1367437-149690&id=1808403968&f=1808403968&mspid=1808699711&type=c&a=0,15)
WOTW was underwhelming to me. The Tri-pods did nothing for me, Dakota Fanning was relegated to being a whiny kid which is uncharacteristic, it had some moments of good humor under pressure to break the tension, and some nice cinematography in the sweeps, but overall, Iwas really let down.
The Byron Haskins version runs circles around this one.
It seems like WOTW reviews are kind of all over the place.A friend of mine had this to say, "it's a good movie... if you're an old housewife"
It seems like the general opinion is down a bit on F4No surprise there, trailer looks like solid matter discharged from an animal's alimentary canal.
Everyone keeps saying that about dooms voice, but it's not as though a persons vocie changes when they wear a mask anyway...
Let alone he is supposed to sound the way he does, at least in the comics. A relatively calm, and soemtiems demanding voice.
Also, William Forsythe was straight up bad-ass, and anyone who sees it will agree.
Also, William Forsythe was straight up bad-ass, and anyone who sees it will agree.
I know it's going to sound like I'm saying this just to disagree with you...again... but I thought that his was the only ridiculously over-the-top, unbelievable, poorly acted character in and otherwise very well done movie.
the Firefly family is made out to be a lot more depraved than we first thought, and overall, this is a uber-violent film.
I heard from a friend who said that Zombie's new flick was horrible - he said something about uber-violence being so disgusting it made him sick and he could hardly watch it. (http://www.jedidefender.com/images/newsicons/icon16.gif)
Is it really bloody-violent (blood squirting), sexually-violent (rape/torture), or gross violent (innards expodingout out of body holes?
For some reason, I can tolerate a little "bloody-violence" in a movie, but the other two types will turn me off even the most brilliant movie. I didn't mind the blood-shed in "Kill Bill" for example, but I get grossed out at a lot of other horror movies. :-\
Is it really bloody-violent (blood squirting), sexually-violent (rape/torture), or gross violent (innards expodingout out of body holes?
Any scenes in particular you can cite where you thought he was over-acting?
"Stealth" looks to be essentially "Top Gun" meets "2001", where a plane becomes self aware and does its own thing. Besides, Jessica Biel's a failed actress, IMO. Needs to re-join "7th Heaven", re-evaluate who she jobs for.
BTW, saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" this afternoon. Easily the worst movie I've seen all year, and probably in my Top 10 for worst ever.
I thought Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was really good. I saw it, it was fun and I really enjoyed it - but then again I'm just a regular guy and not a part-time movie reviewer type guy.
Has anyone seen Sky High yet, seems to be getting some good reviews. (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/nahrung/a070.gif)
The concept of AI taking over is a Tired story...
New Potter trailer may have won me over, but I don't think it'll make up for the last installment, already forgot the name of it.
Heh, heh, I hate to ask but does anyone plan on seeing Dukes this weekend?
Don't agree, don't read the books, just felt rushed, and seemed like a lot was sacrificed. Mainly, explanations and what made the first 2 fun. Guess we'll see about GOF.

Really good movie. It had me on the edge of my seat litteraly. It was awsome.

The Chronicals of Narnia doesn't open up for another month? How'd you see it already? That seems pretty far off for there to be advanced screenings already.
One thing that did bug me was that this was yet another movie where the mom is dead (what does Disney have against Moms anyway? :P).

OT - I don't want to sound overly sensitive, but I thought that opening sequence in Finding Nemo was a little too much for the kiddies...
and everyone went hysterical at the whole "Beauty killed the beast" line.
Wow. I'm amazed everyone is liking King King so much. I was MAJORLY disappointed. No one else thought it was like an hour too long? And...
SPOLIERS AHEAD...
I honestly would have walked out in the middle "Remake of Jurassic Park" hour if I didn't want to see the NYC ending...and then I really wished I DID walk out when I got to the whole Central Park "twirling on the ice" scene. People in the theater I was in were laughing during that scene...and everyone went hysterical at the whole "Beauty killed the beast" line.
What did everyone like about it so much? Are people really still entertained by 20-min raptor and brontosaurus action sequences? I mean, Jurassic Park was like 10 years ago. And did you really care about the cook? Or the kid? It all played like a disaster movie parody to me...introduce like 10 people you know are going to slowly die off...and then watch them slowly die off.
And what they did to the Denham character was a travesty. What were his stakes? What was his arc? In the original, Denham was this fearless adventurer who finally met his match, and his unwillingness to realize his limits and flaws led to his, his crew's and his city's downfall. Denham's Jack Black, on the other hand, started out a ****-up, ****** everyone else up, and then ended the movie a ****-up.
Sorry for the rant...I just was really pissed after seeing this one. And I honestly don't know anyone else who liked it except for you guys on this board. I'm just wondering what worked for everyone...
Going tomorrow as well - with high expectations.
Clerks 2 teaser. (http://blockofstores.com/teaser/)
Man, I hope this doesn't suck. This teaser didn't look too bad, but it only had like ten words total in it.
After seeing Jersey Girl, my confidence in Kevin Smith's films has been shaken.
Going tomorrow as well - with high expectations.
Eli Roth has given me nothing to base ANY expectations on, except that of that he won't give us anything original, which was the case with "Hostel", which I saw this past Monday. Interesting storyline marred with unnecessary and tasteless acts, and an overabundance of needless sex and misogeny.
Daily Variety said the action would center on the early days of "Star Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer-space mission.

No, it's hard to watch Cruise in movies ever since he went crazy.
When you are a celebrity I think you need to show a little restraint when it comes to the image you want to portray.
I'm surprised that it's not doing better than it is.

People are totally ******* sick of this guy.
Any bets on what'll be bigger in terms of box office gross - Superman or X3?
I'm betting Pirates will be the biggest flick of the summer.
was a smart move to use John Williams' score
Has it been confirmed that the movie will contain the original theme song? I know the first trailer did, but I see no mention of John Williams on the movie poster..maybe I missed it.
I thought it was genus.
Go see Posiedon instead.
I missed the scene after the credits so what was it? I know I am going to go see it again (only because my hubby didn't go with me the first time, not because I thought it was anything to go back twice for) but probably won't wait to see it unless I know what it's about.
I didn't know Soundwave was in it. A 4-foot tall Soundwave??!! That's just ridiculous.
Why does everybody keep saying that this movie will suck ass? I've stayed away from scripts or plots, but I actually like the design of the bot modes minus Screamer

I've heard a lot of bad reviews about The Fountain, though I'd been looking forward to it. Do you have any criticism, Rob?

Saw Night At The Museum yesterday. Pretty much just what I expected, it was pretty good.

(I had GoBots.) :-\
Ah yes, Gobots...the poor man's Transformers. Had 'em as well, and actually dig them more now than the original TFs.
Anyway, I think it's refreshing they're taking TF to a different level and making some modifcations. It's definitely not going to be the kiddy cartoon that we all remember, at least not based on what we've seen in the trailer. I know this has a bunch of fan boys all bent out of shape, but that's to be expected. Based on the trailer, I'm looking forward to it.

There's a good bit of "open to interpretation" theory to that movie. To me, it should have either gone one way or the other.
Possible spoiler? Left up to interpretation?
I got off the phone with my wife in SOCAL...she tells me they had traffic in both directions stopped on the road over the dry lake bed coming from/to my home AF Base. She told me they were filming some more of the 'Transformers movie'. She desribed a huge big-rig truck (optimus prime?) with flames on it, there was also a large overly 4WD vehicle as well. She was in front of the stopped traffic. They were doing a shoot where the vehicles make a turn around on the road. For those that don't know this is a 2 lane in/2 lane out road with dry lake bed on both sides.
For some strange reason A B1 bomber flew directly overhead(in-line with the road) with it's wings swept. It would be cool if there was a transforming bomber
I find that unlikely though...probably just a local sortie where the aircrew flew overhead for 'a look'.
I guess the shooting is not yet done for this film....I remember last fall they asked for 'extras' for a shoot on the dry lake on the base itself(different dry lake) (they wanted GI's in uniform). This was the first I've heard of a shoot since then.

Well, to me it seemed a bit like an Vacation remake where everything could go wrong did on this road trip with a 6 flawed characters added to the mix...I thought the contest was great though
Well don't know if this belongs here, I'm sure it does, but anyhow I kind of geeked out a big over this one scene from the TMNT movie coming out today!! I'm planning to see it tonight, full price and all!! :-X

Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel.

Geez I almost forget he has God on his side too :P
Anyone see The Last Mimzy? I'm intrigued as it has an Explorers type vibe to it for some reason and that was one of my favorite movies as a youth
Ratatouille - one of the better movies this year that no one is going to see...
It was a rather good picture. I enjoyed it, at least (though, I suppose, I am somewhat taken with Pixar. They've really yet to disappoint me, Finding Nemo aside.)

No kidding? I don't think I've heard much of anyone say they didn't like Finding Nemo. I thought it was nicely done. I agree that Pixar has been impressive to date, but after absolutely hating Cars I've been skeptical about Ratatouille.
John
Stranger Than Fiction. Fun. It was actually good to see Ferrell in a slightly different role, yet still not totally serious. The soundtrack was great and really set the mood for the movie. Good supporting cast, too.
Saw Sicko yesterday. I recommend everybody see it, regardless of how you feel about Michael Moore.
But there's a Star Wars collector featured in the film. ;)
Seriously though, there is. You can see his Episode 1 figures on display in a cabinate. :P
This movie looks awesome, i have not heard anything about it. I saw the teaser during Harry Potter.

1. Spider-Man 3 (Saw twice)
2. Transformers
3. Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer
4. Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix (Saw twice)
5. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End

I thought Paltro was charming to the last...
I caught Halloween last night, and I thought it was pretty good. I had a bit of trouble getting in due to my age, so after getting tickets to Balls of Fury, the guy who rips tickets let my friends and I go into Halloween after he saw that I brought along my good friend Mr. Bribe. Well worth the $10, and I do hope Saw IV is able to top that level of blood, violence, and gore.
Saw's stupid. Just wait 'till Saw 79 the same thing happens again! WOO! ::)

you bribed the guy?Wow. So is this movie basically just Saw with new characters?(in other words just random gore with crappy story to make it look meaningful) If so it sucks already :(

Well, it wasn't the same type of horror as Saw (Slasher/serial killer film compared to torture), but had about the same level of blood and gore. I guess I should've been a bit clearer on that one. Halloween was entertaining, but not worth repeat viewings or a purchase on DVD if it's over $8.00.Saw's stupid.
Thanks for posting that. I apologize for even bringing up a "stupid" movie because I enjoy it. It was the wrong thing to do, and highly inappropriate.

Another John Rambo trailer, man this flick is going to be restricted. ;D

The new Aliens vs Predator 2 trailer is up.
It's called the Population Trailer due to the population countdown on it. (http://www.avpgalaxy.net/index.php?subaction=showcomments&id=1190330605&archive=&start_from=&ucat=10&) :D
Holy hell! 8)
Hopefully, the plot of this movie makes you forget the crapfest that was the first AvP.& maybe Alien 3 & 4 while they're at it. ;D

Hey, a guy can wish.
I saw Alien 4....Shittyiest sequel ,besides a Disney-Video-Sequel, ever.
Never have or will see Alien 3.
Alien 3 sucked balls by killing off a great story line, but I feel that Ressurection redeemed itself to some point.Yeah that's why I'll never watch it. Plus, they killed of Hicks, Newt, Bishop & Ripley, nice slap in the face to Cameron.
Hayden Christensen and Sam Jackson reteam in: Jumper (http://www.jumperthemovie.com/)
Looks freakin' sweet.
The video has been removed. What was it?

Why are they making that crap? When they could make Scary Movie 5, the only good movie genre-spoof series. >:(
Actually, DA those gay movies Date Movie & Epic Movie were good at opening weekends, but bombs in general.
It was good but my girlfriend liked it more than i did.
Saw I Am Legend earlier today. As an adaptation of Matheson's novel, I'd give it a 7/10,
Pretty good horror movie, although some parts were kind of random. Why did Neville keep a hand grenade in his lab? Seems a bit excessive. I'll probably dislike the movie after I finish the book.
Saw Aliens Vs. Predator and Charlie Wilson's War this weekend. I shouldn't have bothered seeing AvP. Lesson learned.
Cloverfield, from what I have heard, is just a monster destroying New York City. Pretty simple concept, sort of like Godzilla, I guess.
No Country might have been the best movie I've seen in the last year or two - it was absolutely brilliant.
Saw Aliens Vs. Predator and Charlie Wilson's War this weekend. I shouldn't have bothered seeing AvP. Lesson learned.
So the new AVP sucked? I thought I heard it was supposed to be pretty good - in fact it wasn't supposed to have anything to do with the original except for the birth of the Hybrid.

It was a lot better than the first one, but I think I just don't have an appetite for films like that anymore. :-\
Just got back from No Country.

I finally saw There Will Be Blood yesterday.
If it weren't for No Country, I'd be talking about this one as the best movie I've seen in forever.
Both of them were amazing.

I love pretty much everything PTA's ever done,
Anyone going to Cloverfield tonight?
Anyone going to Cloverfield tonight?
I was planning on going, but Marcus theatres refuses to show it. (http://www.marcustheatres.com/index_sub.cfm?pageid=subpages/cloverfield.html&CFID=4965276&CFTOKEN=50053323) Main reason I love that theatre is because of their UltraScreen which is 75feet wide x 32 feet tall...Guess I'll have to to to a "regular" theatre.

I really wanted to go see but after hearing the actors on opie and anthony this morning describe the filming, it just kind of turned me off. They described it as shaky.
So it's Godzilla 1998 meets The Blair Witch Project.
With those influences, how can anybody not see it?

It is shaky, but that's what's going to make this movie fun. I really dug TBWP when I first saw it moreso because of the way the movie was filmed....It just made it that much scarier.

There Will Be Blood. Can't recommend it enough.
Saw both Cloverfield and Juno over the weekend. Both were equally awesome.
Where did you see Close Encounters at Anthony? I would love to see it on the big screen again.
Just another quick vote for Juno as film of the year. I was not overly excited to go see this, but it was absolutely fantastic. Surprisingly funny and very emotional - it was put together perfectly. Highly recommended!

I agree. I wasn't expecting much out of it either and was totally surprised with the movie! A great satire of a romantic comedy.... superb characters, story, music... it's all there. Go see it!
Saw Cloverfield yesterday, great idea, great execution. Well worth checking out.
I saw it. I thought it was alright but the only small thing i caught was at the end. Do you have a link to some more hidden stuff?
Just got back from TWBB.

So, what did you think of the movie? IT's looked pretty good from commercials/previews, and I'm interested in seeing it, but do you think someone my age would enjoy it? Please share your thoughts, thanks.
These complaints aside, I did walk out with a new appreciation for milkshakes
Watched Vantage Point last night. I enjoyed it very much. It didn't have a single dull moment. Good stuff.
I went out on a limb and purchased 3:10 (hadn't seen it, looked good) and it was $20 well spent. Russell Crowe was very believable as a Southern Cowboy guy, lots of terrific action, and a surprising fate for the hero character. I hope No Country is just as good.
I'd never really noticed Emile Hirsch before, but he did an excellent job.
Have you see them?!
:-*
And we're talking about the same guys who ****** up the Matrix sequels.
Screen Daily reports that S. DARKO, the sequel to Richard Kelly’s cult genre-blender DONNIE DARKO, begins shooting May 18 for the Silver Nitrate and Newmarket Capital companies. Kelly isn’t involved in the $10-million follow-up, but THE RING’s Daveigh Chase (pictured) is back as Donnie’s little sister Samantha, now 18, who goes on a road trip with her best friend Corey. Along the way, they become tormented by strange visions. Directing is Chris Fisher of NIGHTSTALKER and RAMPAGE: THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER MURDERS, who said in a statement, “I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly’s film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality.” Adds Simon Crowe, whose British sales company Velvet Octopus will be selling the movie at Cannes, “I think there is a new generation of cinemagoers who will be very excited to see this film. Donnie’s not in it, but there are meteorites and rabbits.” Fox, which released DONNIE DARKO on DVD, has already snagged the North American rights to the film, which also stars Ed (100 FEET) Westwick, Briana Evigan and Justin (THE INVISIBLE) Chatwin. —Michael Gingold
Caught Speedracer. Didn't suck. In fact, I kind of liked it, though it's far from a perfect movie.
For fans of Donnie Darko, the sequel is set to begin shooting this month, first time I've heard about this. From Fangoria: (http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=6504)
Just curious if anyone went to see The Happening. I'm kind of torn on seeing this because I think Mark Wahlburg's a great actor, but M Night Shyamalan has pissed me off too much with Lady in the Water and The Village that I have vowed never to spend another dime on his craptastic movies ever again.
There Will be Blood was probably the most awesome-looking film I've ever seen (and I don't even have a great tv or anything). And paired with the dissonant soundtrack, the movie was even more foreboding. The story was a little thin, but Daniel Day-Lewis more than made up for any minuses.

If you read the books, you'd find out that the Golden Compass ends with Lord Asriel killing Roger and Lyra walking into the city. Not a very happy ending. I guess we will never see that since it doesn't look very likely we will be seeing the Subtle Knife. Too bad too since that is a better story.

If you're a horror fan, it'd be worth your effort to find a theater playing Midnight Meat Train. It opened this weekend direct to dollar theaters, at only 100 locations in the country. I read a story a while ago about how the new head of the distributor had just produced a competing horror film which MMT was supposed to open against. So out of spite he delayed MMT so his film would do better. His film bombed. So as not to be shown up, he pushed MMT to August in a very limited release.
Doing so, he basically doomed what is an excellent horror film. It's the best one I've seen in a long while. Very thrilling. Very engaging. The acting is was excellent about 85% of the time, which is well above average for the genre. The gore might be too extreme for some people (the girlfriend of one of the guys in front of me stood up and left during one of the more extreme attacks), but if you're into that sort of thing it's fantastic. It's very grim and doesn't play or end like your typical horror film. But if horror is your thing, you'll be very happy you went to see it.
Try this, not the best tho.

Some flicks I have seen recently:
Batman: The Dark Knight: Just wow! 8)
Iron Man: Awesome. 8)
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Entertaining.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army: Good popcorn flick.
The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor: Good popcorn flick.
Hancock. I liked this flick. ;D
The X-Files: I Want To Believe. I want to get my money back!
Tropic Thunder: What a hoot, funny flick. :D
Death Race: This was entertaining, great races & very brutal.
My wife and I saw An American Carol today.
It was hilarious!
Consensus: An American Carol suffers not so much from its perceived political bias, but from the fact that it simply is not very funny.
It was?
Finally saw Step Brothers, had some brilliant laugh out loud moments!!

Aussie man-of-the-moment Sam Worthington ("Rogue", "Avatar", "Terminator Salvation") is in talks to play Perseus in the Louis Leterrier-directed "Clash of the Titans."
Fianlly went to go see Zach and Miri Make A Porno and once again Kevin Smith did not let me down. ;D
I caught This is England (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480025/) on the XBox today. It's a great film and is somewhat like an English version of American History X. I think Thomas Turgoose, the kid who plays the lead role, did a fantastic job. The final shot is perfect, and very reminscent of Truffaut's The 400 Blows.
I have just been reading the reviews about The Day the Earth Stood Still... (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/muede/d026.gif)
I'll just catch it online soon. :-X
Yeah, me too. I didn't have high hopes for it, but, wow, it really sounds like they dropped the ball.

The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.
Wolverines! Script review (http://aintitcool.com/node/40771) of the planned Red Dawn remake.
Is that the one with DeNiro in it too?
Also, an article saying Ghostbusters 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=55711) could be filming as soon as this winter.
I like how that article jumps on the "remake" term like they're trying to stir up ****. The two articles I read about Alien yesterday presented it as an origins story and mentioned nothing of a remake.
Pandorum looks interesting. I agree with the write-up, it sounds a lot like Aliens/Pitch Black/Event Horizon. But, let's face it, you can look at almost everything coming out of Hollywood and see a parallel to something else.

An Aliens origin/prequel would be great and much more welcome than a remake IMO.

The Karate Kid, huh? I can't imagine anyone else playing Mr. Miyagi. I don't mind many of these reboots but I don't want to see a new Karate Kid.
Heck, I don't even want to see the old Karate Kid. :P
We took our kids to see the IMAX Night at the Museum 2...it was good but the first was far better. Lots of the same old crap...and plays in to the theme going in this thread right now...too much repitition in Hollywood. It is the same thing again and again. I mean, come on, get some new ideas. I can't stand the copy catting over and over and over. Get some originality! It is like repitition is their job (I'm out of material)

Pics from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=56475). Creepy.
Interesting trailer on Airbender, but I thought that James Cameron had that project.
I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but with "summer movie season" right around the corner now I was wondering if anyone had any predictions for the #1 movie for 2009? It seems that it most often comes during the May-July/Aug months (with a few exceptions), so with Wolverine kicking things off in less than 2 weeks now - which movie do you think will be the big winner for the year? For reference, here's the box office champs of the last five years:
2008 - The Dark Knight
2007 - Spider-Man 3
2006 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
2005 - Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith
2004 - Shrek 2
It seems that most of those movies were pretty big favorites going into the summer, while it might not be quite as clear this year. Some possible contenders (and some that are tough to judge):
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Star Trek
Terminator: Salvation
Angels and Demons
Land of the Lost
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Up
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
Later in the year...
Twilight: New Moon
Avatar
This is ABSOLUTELY worth watching...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kayFrIR-Qfw
I'll predict Transformers 2 in first. New Trek at two. And Up third.
GI Joe will and must bomb. ;)
I don't think Watchmen was ever going to be in the top 10 for the year. . .
I think efranks is right about New Moon being a sleeper for the year. My wife is way into the books/first movie, and that fanbase in general is pretty enthusiastic. I don't think its going to crack the top three, but top 5 is a distinct possibility.

Well, if they read the whole series, then I can't believe people would put too much into anything Twilight-related. The first movie/book were great, but overall that was the worst series ever.

I thought they were all interesting. And the millions of others who read all the books probably agree on some level too.
I can't find where I saw it, but someone recommended the movie Once, and I just gotta say that I totally agree. A very entertaining movie, and probably one of the best music films I've ever seen. Thanks for the recommendation!I love that movie, the soundtrack is on constant rotation on my iPod
I saw the Hurt Locker last night. Excellent movie. I highly recommend it.
The top ten of the year (so far), according to Box Office Mojo (http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2009&p=.htm):
1 Star Trek Par. $240,823,706
2 Up BV $229,059,138
3 Monsters Vs. Aliens P/DW $195,536,087
4 X-Men Origins: Wolverine Fox $177,364,794
5 Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian Fox $157,349,843
6 The Hangover WB $156,628,400
7 Fast and Furious Uni. $154,900,260
8 Paul Blart: Mall Cop Sony $146,336,178
9 Taken Fox $144,977,147
10 Angels & Demons Sony $128,479,731
It should also be noted that this director is the reason why Transformers got made. He directed a French commercial that featured a transforming car that danced. It was flawless and caught Spielberg's attention.
James Cameron's Avatar (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/hd/)
Eh... not bad. I don't know the first thing about this movie. Looks like your typical "Evil American turns into an oppressed alien and joins the resistance" type deal. That's kinda lame, IMO.
James Cameron's Avatar (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/hd/)
Is that like The Last Airbender cartoon thing or is this something different? I thought M. Knight Shamawhatever was behind this?
Interesting trailer on Airbender, but I thought that James Cameron had that project.
I think the film is a home run. Makes you appreciate what a good film can be and how bad a lot of things coming out of Hollywood really are.

My only guess was that it was too violent. But that's just a guess... that's the only reason I can come up with why somebody would walk out.
Great tension. So many unexpected events. Extremely gratifying.

I read a quick review yesterday, might have been linked from IMDB, and the guy that wrote it panned the film.
I'm going for 9 on Saturday. Looks like a fun lil flick.
You'd think with Megan Fox's new found stardom from Transformers that she'd get something better than "Jennifer's Body". That looks like it could be one of the worst movies ever.
Yet, apparently, the reviews may be better than for Transformers (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/09/18/review.jennifers.body/index.html)
I saw The Informant last night. What a ride. Very good movie.
Saw Zombieland over the weekend. Great fun. Really well-done movie.
Went to see Paranormal Activity, entertaining. I enjoyed it.
Went to see Paranormal Activity, entertaining. I enjoyed it.
I just got back. I'd go further than entertaining. I thought it was legitimately scary.
And I watch a lot of scary movies, and I'm rarely impressed.
If it scared you, then it will be too much for me!
But yeah, if Rob's scared by something on the movie screen, it's a flat out pass for me.
As an aside, I'm a little annoyed by the 3-D re-releases and new movies that require you to pay an exhorbitant price ($15 here) just to get the glasses. I'm ok buying them once but with a nine year old we've been to half a dozen movies in the past year where they still charge you even if you keep your old glasses. It's a gimmick folks, even if it is significantly more well done than in the past.
QuoteBut yeah, if Rob's scared by something on the movie screen, it's a flat out pass for me.

Hooboy I overlooked this...I don't necesarrily want to dislike this movie. It has the potential to be awesome, and looks like they've done a great job so far. Nothing will topple the original in my mind, though...partly because it's such a classic and Ray Harryhausen's monsters were so cool, but mainly because it is where as a wee lad of 6 I saw my first naked boobies on a movie screen. No amount of CGI can overshadow that fond memory.

I agree, I think Transformers 2 may take the top nod this year. I do, however, think that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince may squeek out a number 2 slot. It'll probably be a battle between Potter and Terminator.
While the other May movies all have huge hit potential, they cancel each other out. It's going to be hard for one film to break out of the month with huge numbers since 3 of the four pull from a similar audience pool. Terminator has the best bet since it's last in line with only "Up" following it. Two different audiences. Potter Stands alone about 3 weeks after Transformers. So I'm betting a 1/2 for them.
I do agree with Bill that I think the Joe movie will tank.
I still think Transformers is probably going to be number one with Harry Potter coming in at 2 but it'll have to do a good job to beat Star Trek.
I think Twilight is going to be the sleeper. If last night was any indication, that film could go big. The girls at Transformers were screaming last night when the Twilight trailer rolled and kicked off with Robert Pattinson...I thought they were going to rush the screen when it cut to Taylor Lautner without his shirt on.
I'm not surprised that Terminator is not in the top 10 so far this year. That movie didn't totally suck but it didn't raise to anything special either.
Newsarama's (http://www.newsarama.com/film/091231-10-best-geek-films.html) list of "Top Ten Geek Movies of the 2000s". Sort of disappointing to see ROTS left off of the list, although not surprising with it being "cool" to diss Star Wars a lot these days. I've mentioned it before though, it seems like even though Revenge of the Sith was pretty well received (and made tons of money) it gets lumped in with the other prequels as being "disappointing". Anyways, the list is available at the linky, and lots of good movies are included.
So I guess I didn't realize that a film's box office tally counts towards the year it was released in and not in which it was made. So, apparently, Avatar could end up being the #1 film for 2009 if it beats $402M (which it's most likely to do)? Is that right?

And it was totally set up for a sequel, too.
I was more excited to see the preview to the new 'Wall Street' movie. It was really good to see Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko again...

A "little" campy? Army of Darkness makes the Three Stooges look like Schindler's List.
I think if it's funny it'll do well. And so far reactions I've read have been positive.
Also it's rumored that a trailer for the sequel to Cloverfield will be attached to Iron Man 2
I thought McGruber was on MadTV ? I thought it was a joke when I saw the trailer for that a few weeks ago. Can't believe they actually made a movie out of it.Also it's rumored that a trailer for the sequel to Cloverfield will be attached to Iron Man 2
Ya...Super 8 or some jive. Looking forward to it.
Wait a minute. SNL is still on tv? I thought that show was canceled back in the 90's.
Saw Iron Man 2 today....great movie. It did not have the Cloverfield trailer though...possibly because we saw it in IMAX.

Cloverfield trailer! More like JJ Abrams & Steven Spielberg's Super 8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyW9cX7Y47Q) trailer.
JJ Abrams said bite me (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/JJ-Abrams-Secret-Super-8-Movie-Is-Not-A-Cloverfield-Sequel-18448.html) to the Cloverfield trailer.

I believe those balloons are for providing additional lighting to a scene where traditional set light would be obtrusive or underpowered. Here is a manufacturer (http://www.airstar-light.us/film_lighting.html) that produces them for the film/TV industry.
Unfortunately Twilight will probably be number one for the year, although HP has a chance. This summer really stinks for movie releases. Other than IM2 and Toy Story 3, everything else is just a movie I wont be upset if I miss it in theaters. Next summer is killer though. I think there is a 11 week stretch of blockbusters.
how would you rate it for kids? my 9 year old wants to see it.
don't know if this is where this belongs or not - but has everone seen the new Mortal Kombat "Rebirth" trailer that debuted a few days ago? if not you can find it on youtube
I'm glad this series is going to continue. It should do better with a Christmas release.
It would piss Disney off if it did better than Prince Caspin did.
I agree about the A-Team. I saw it yesterday and enjoyed the heck out of it.
Inception was awesome.
Recommend all 3 highly, especially Twilight ....
Yeah. Inception was pretty strong...so...the end...was he or wasn't he?
Thoughts? (http://aintitcool.com/node/46051)
I saw Scott Pilgrim last night and enjoyed the hell out of it. Very funny.
Went to see Expendables last night and thought it was actually pretty good. I was not expecting much at all but i would suggest people go check it out.

I assume the govenator's appearance was just a cameo, yes? I thought this was a comedy when I first heard about this movie for some reason.
Ok, of the 25 I have seen a total of 5. And the other 20 hold about Zero interst for me.
Ok, of the 25 I have seen a total of 5. And the other 20 hold about Zero interst for me.
I hope 2 of the 5 were in the top 5, Paul. ;)
I've seen 17 of the films on that list and the ones I haven't are older (Forbidden Planet, Body Snatchers, etc) or ones that I considered horror more than sci-fi (Thing).
I've seen Blade Runner several times, and it never did it for me. Every few years I'll sit down with it thinking "this time maybe I'll get it" - but I never do.
The Penguins from Madagascar were entertaining; the monkeys even more so. Dragon was ok, but a sequel is hardly necessary. I liked Panda too but five more movies? Ugh.
It's really a pity they can't leave some movies well enough alone. Often a classic movie is far better remembered than a classic followed by two vastly lesser sequels, and no, I'm not thinking of Star Wars. Shrek is what came to mind. Or Austin Powers. Leave it be you greedy bastards.

True Grit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUiCu-zuAgM&feature=player_embedded) trailer.
Potential for the best Western since Unforgiven? I believe so...
I read that initial screenings of Sucker Punch went over so poorly that Zack Snyder might lose his job directing Superman...
New Blade Runner movies without Harrison Ford = suck.
New Blade Runner movies causing toys to finally be made for the original? That would take the sting out a little bit...
Oh how I'd love a really nice 3.75" Harrison Ford Deckard and Police Spinner to go with my Han and Indy figures. All that would be left at that point would be Witness figures. :D
If they're going to do it, do it with style like they did with the TV Movie sequel to Gone With The Wind. ::)
So is SyFy channel's Battle of Los Angeles and Battle LA the same movie or related? I wonder if Battle of Los Angeles is related to the marketing for Battle LA? Kind of like how Universal is making a miniseries for Wicked that is advertising for the movie version.
They still going for the super-evolved mutant dino commando soldiers storyline?
Weekend at Bernies is so screaming for a reboot.

Wouldn't that be dead in the water?
Ridley Scott to direct new Blade Runner film (http://collider.com/ridley-scott-new-blade-runner-movie/110028/#more-110028)
One thing has always bugged me though - the math in that movie does not add up. Decker is told that 6 replicants escaped, one got fried offscreen. That leaves 5: take away Rutger Hauer, Brion James, Daryl Hannah and that chick with the snake and that still leaves one replicant completely unaccounted for. WTF?
So, Ridley Scott can say, 'Oh Deckard was always a replicant' all he wants, but whatever dude.
Not that anyone asked me, but in my world, Rachel is and Deckard isn't. :)
Of course if they actually follow the book, it would be completely different movie.
WTF?
There have been so many cuts of the movie, I have no idea what you should believe when it comes to how many escaped replicants there are:
- In the first cut, it was six escaped - 4 on the loose, 1 fried off-screen, 1 unaccounted for.
- In the extended cut, they dubbed it to be five escaped - 4 on the loose, 1 fried off screen
- In the "final" cut, it was six escaped - 4 on the loose, and dubbed it to be 2 fried off-screen
Also, in the first cut they specifically say "3 males, 3 females" and then point out that it was a male that was fried offscreen ("he"), which would mean the sixth was a female to join snake-lady and Pris. Couldn't be Deckard... unless he is also a transgender Blade Runner.
The "missing" replicant was caused by a script change and no one caught the error until they were well into filming. In the initial draft of the movie, there were indeed six escaped replicants - 3 male: Fried Off-Screen Guy, Roy, Leon and 3 female: Pris, Zhora, and someone named Mary who was dropped out - check out this original script (http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Blade-Runner.html).
Mary is with Roy and Pris at Sebastian's apartment and gets killed there in the original draft. For some reason, she got dropped out of the movie. Some scenes were moved around to try to make those "escaped" numbers add up, but no matter how they arranged it, it conflicted something else so they just sort of left it in there.
So, Ridley Scott can say, 'Oh Deckard was always a replicant' all he wants, but whatever dude.
Not that anyone asked me, but in my world, Rachel is and Deckard isn't. :)
Who ya gonna call? Maybe not Bill Murray.
Dan Aykroyd, the man behind the “Ghostbusters” movies, says the hotly-anticipated "Ghostbusters 3" will finally start filming this spring. With or without Bill Murray.
“Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray," Aykroyd told Dennis Miller on his radio show. "That is our hope. We have an excellent script.” But while he admits, “Billy was absolutely the lead and contributed to it in a massive way,” Aykroyd points out, “The concept is much larger than any individual role.”
Basically, they can do without you, Mr. Murray!
In the next movie, Aykroyd says, “We get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."
And speaking of new blood, Ashton Kutcher’s name has been thrown around in relation to a younger squad.
Dan Aykroyd: 'Ghostbusters 3' is officially a go (http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/26/dan-aykroyd-ghostbusters-3-is-officially-on/)
If you think that is good you should see the BBC version of Sherlock. Season 2 starts in January.
The official trailer for the Alien prequel Prometheus is set to premiere tomorrow. It's great to have Ridley Scott involved with the Alien franchise again! There are already some teasers up on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/PrometheusNews).

So who is seeing Red Tails this friday?
It's based on some really old-ass books - "John Carter or Mars" - so it's probably the case where Avatar and AOTC were rip-offs of the source material for John Carter.Yeah...but does that mean you have to make it? I guess it is sort of par for the course as far as Disney goes...the Arena scenes I saw in the trailer are seriously right out of AOTC...
Saw Chronicle today. It was fantastic.
As far as Red Tails goes, if you love visual effects on the big screen, go see it now. Overall though I think it is a great movie to rent and watch at home in Bluray.
Saw Chronicle today. It was fantastic.
Very entertaining. I learned alot. I just wish the f-bombs were fewer in numbers.

Is Chronicle that F-Bomb laden? Just trying to decide whether or not to take my 11 year old to see it. Looks so awesome, but hopefully not this much language.
I would be more worried about my 10 year old seeing how "cool" it is for a bunch of teenagers to wreak death and desctruction

That is the polar opposite of what this movie is about.
Found myself in agreement with an awful lot of the selections. Too be fair, I've never seen Titanic nor will I ever but I'm content in the notion it sucked. Boat sinks, insert 3 hours of annoying back story.
The Hunger Games is my wild card and I think it has the possibility of making the top 5 and knocking out The Amazing Spider-Man. The books are huge and if the movie captures that it could do good things. However, it's not what you would call a feel good story. That could turn some people off and word of mouth could stop people from going if they didn't already know what the movie was about.
I understand why everyone compares it to Twilight, but they aren't really anything alike to me. I don't even see why this is necessarily a "teen" book, aside from some of the characters being teenagers. It is a pretty dark story (at least so far, with no signs of changing), and pretty cool overall.
I've been surprised to find how many men among my friends have read this series and enjoyed it. I think the movie's going to be huge. The books are very cinematic anyway, and it looks they've got a near perfect cast.
Looking forward to Bill & Ted 3 :-\
I saw a preview for something called John Carter being put out by Disney it looks to be a blatant rip off of Avatar and Attack of the Clones mushed together

A few coworkers went last night. Not heard a bad review yet.
I predict Catnip will be the new IT baby name. :) Yes I know that was spelled wrong.
Just got back from Wrath of the Titans. Meh. Good popcorn flick, but nothing I couldn't have waited for on disk.
Not current, but I just watched Drive last night and man was I pleasantly surprised at the quality of that movie. Ryan Gosling is really quite good in it, as are all the supporting actors. Highly recommended.

I must not have gotten it. I hated Drive. I nearly fell asleep watching it.
I don't get the positive review Cabin in the Woods was getting because it was pretty terrible. Not sure if it was meant to be scary or funny but the apparent scary parts made me laugh. The Minneapolis paper was absolutely gushing about Cabin in the Woods this week. From what I read they said it was a "smarter" Scream.
Saw Cabin in the Woods today....I've been hooked on horror flicks since I was a boy. This movie was no different until almost the end. Nice twist! >:DAll Whedonites must see this film! His style is all over it! Spoilers:
I still do not get how this became a teen girl deal but whatever...
We finally saw Hunger Games yesterday. My faith in humanity already at an all time low went further with the fact that there were several young children in the audience (under 10 for sure)
I'm starting to be like Brent and will not go to the movie theater unless I really, really have to (ie Avengers)
AS far as the movie...awesome. It was really well done, as others have said, faithful to the book and all around a great movie. I still do not get how this became a teen girl deal but whatever...

I think i may be the only person on this planet who truly hated Cabin in the Woods.
Looking forward to Prometheus this weekend though! 8)
Hard to take Adrian Brody seriously as a tough guy though.
Looks like it's getting a 75% on Rotton Tomatoes. I guess the visuals are fantastic, but there's quite a few plot holes. Still looking forward to it though.
I don't care for 3D the way it is but couldn't imagine sitting there with 2 pairs of glasses on...that must suck.
Shaw running around healed is more of a suspension of disbelief requirement than a plot hole (it's the future after all :P ). What are some other examples that people had problems with? I thought it was pretty solid.
That was my biggest problem...the other was that noone cared that she cut out some alien and left it in the ship
I saw it in IMAX 3D on Friday and thought it was good. They definitely left a lot open, so there might be another one down the road.
I think Penny arcade sums up the movie pretty well.HAHAHAHA! This!

What are some other examples that people had problems with? I thought it was pretty solid.
The Engineers; we never did get a good idea of their motives. Did they come to Earth to create life or destroy it or for something else and we were just a side effect? Why come back to destroy us? Had we done something other than what they wanted or were we not what they wanted? And either way, why bother with us rather than just start over somewhere else? Either way, what was their goal? Their end game?
The Engineer who tried to pilot the ship off the planet appeared to be somewhat different than the Engineer who appeared on Earth. Was that just evolution or had they been trying to alter themselves and had it partially succeeded? Was that why we got an early Alien from the Engineer while Shaw popped out a facehugger? Because, if we had the same DNA, why would we see the start of an acid-blooded, silicon-based life form spring from something based on a carbon-based life form? Holloway to Shaw to the Engineer?
What did David know? By the end it seems like his goal was supposed to be to help Weyland meet the Engineers but up to the point we know that, he seems to know more than anyone else about what to expect on the planet. Why the experiment with Holloway? Did he read something or know something more about what the Engineers were doing on the planet? If his real goal was to get Weyland a face to face, why all the off-book stuff? Also, what did he say to the Engineer at the end? Maybe I'm forgetting now, but I didn't think that was explained either.
Then there was Captain Janek who, with one visit to the labyrinth, suddenly knows that it's a military installation and not, well, anything else. Maybe that's just deductive reasoning, but the movie seems to make it a key point that we now know this.
What was Meredith Vickers really up to? She said early on that she was there because the Weyland corporation was laying out a lot of money, but what CEO would actually go herself on some mission like this? So was she really there just because she was the boss or was there some other reason that we didn't know about? She didn't seem to know that Weyland himself was there yet she had that medical table in her section of the Prometheus as if she knew something we didn't. Or, I guess she was just paranoid...but that brings me back to why she would go herself.
What effect did the black ooze have on Holloway and Fifield? It apparently broke up the Engineer on Earth and the worms became some type of...something else. But what were Fifield and Holloway becoming and how did the ooze change Holloway enough that he could plant a facehugger in Shaw? Again, this comes back to what the Engineers were trying to accomplish with the black ooze, something that we don't have any answers to.
It felt, to me, like the entire movie was more set up than anything...like we need to get a sequel out of it in order to really find out what was going on.
E...
How are we suppose to tell the difference between Robocop and Batman now?
Went to see Wreck It Ralph this weekend. I really liked it. Way too many VG references to absorb in one viewing. Lots of fun!
I hope they find the engineers and are killed instantly, then the engineers blow up Earth thus eliminating ALIEN and its sequels from the timeline.
That's the thing with Sci-fi movies. It's hit or miss... awesome or suck.
And it's looking like Man of Steel might give IM3 a run for its money.
Early estimates for MoS opening weekend is $100 million plus. If it can hit $150 million and has some legs, it might surpass $400 million.
Wow, do that many people buy pre-sale tickets? I would think this is just a small fraction of the opening weekend ticket sales.
Wow, do that many people buy pre-sale tickets?
"Rim Jo..." nah, probably shouldn't go there.
Just watched G.I. Joe: Retaliation What a piece of ****.
"WILLIS OUT," an obviously excited Stallone writes, "HARRISON FORD IN !!!! GREAT NEWS !!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!"
Did anyone see Elysium and have any comment on it? Or Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters?
I was going to skip both but I have a free ticket that expires the end of the month and nothing opening this week or next looks any more interesting to me so figured I'd catch one of these if they're any good.
E...
Being a child of the 80's I think I'm not alone in saying I wanted to be an astronaut when I was young. Gravity brought all of that back and more...all of the reviews are spot on, it is absolutely fantastic. The effects and scenes are breathtaking and also brought me back to watching NASA IMAX films of yore. I'm giving it a solid 10 out of 10 (10 being the highest).
...it takes me out of the movie and makes it more like a science-fiction story.
Well, this is a fictional story that takes place in space. Isn't that kind of the definition of a science-fiction story? What were you expecting? To be honest Pete, I don't think the actors were really even filming in outer space. ;)
I saw The Lone Ranger on the plane yesterday...maybe I'm stupid or maybe I don't know what a good movie is but I really enjoyed it. I totally see what they were trying to do with it, the humor and characters were very much POTC. I also sense the bad reviews really sunk them from the start...anyone else ever see it?
I recently watched Redemption (Jason Statham) on Netflix. Actually, a pretty good movie and definitely the best Statham flick.
Always a big fan of Godzilla, and hoping this erases the memory of the '98 movie, which was truley abysmal.

I would buy it for $1.00.

Not a whole lot to see. It is definitely....different, but I'm trying to reserve judgement for now. My daughter is so into the turtles now I hope that it is good, but we'll see. I remember loving the original Turtles movie (and even the second one) when I was a kid, although I'm not sure how well they still hold up. The current Nick toon is pretty great though.
I'm sure there will be plenty of references to testicles with M. Bay's involvement.First teaser trailer for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie:

I have a bad feeling about this...
That movie better be PG or they are completely out of touch with their core TV show audience of 6-10 year olds.
I saw the trailer for Godzilla in a theater today. It played really well on the big screen. And it left me wanting to see the movie in the theater.
Worst part: The scene set in 1999 that features a kid playing with a 2004 LEGO Snowspeeder. Do they REALLY think they can get away with BS like that?

Let me guess: your favorite part of Argo was the end credits sequence with the vintage Early Bird kit and X-Wing, right?
I haven't seen Argo yet... :-\
Plus they kill Tom Cruise over and over again. What's not to like?

We went to see Big Hero 6 this weekend... no surprise, all four kids loved it. I loved it too. Great story, very fun. A lot more fun than a lot of summer blockbusters I've seen in fact. Boys are hoping for a DisneyXD series as they want more Baymax...

So is this a reboot?
So is this a reboot?
Not really... it looks like they sent Kyle Reese back to save Sarah, but since it already happened, they have a T-800 to fit the first T-800, but there's also another Terminator, not sure if it's a T-1000 or newer version, in the mix.

I think that the Oscars dropped the ball by not nominating "The Lego Movie" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" for Best Picture.
I'm just so tired of genpop hits being frowned on for awards. If you sold a whole bunch of tickets and there's positive buzz around your movie, you should be up for "Best Picture." If you were a little 200 theater release artsy fartsy that a dozen people liked, you should be up for "Best Artsy Fartsy."
And really, they need to get over themselves and what they do. They're entertainers. They aren't curing cancer.
Good to see Kingsmen is doing well. The comic it's based on is quite good. And I hear they stayed pretty faithful to it. Even included the cameo of a particular celebrity (which they've kept under wraps through all the promos). When I heard they were doing the movie I was like "No way they're going to do that to him..." but when I saw he agreed to appear in the film I was like "Maybe these guys actually got some balls after all."
Blomkamp Alien 5 back on! ;D
Genisys though... I don't think I've ever seen a trailer spoil the plot like that one. What a joke, and makes me even LESS excited/inclined to see it.
As for me, well, I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either. It was a good movie for a rainy Sunday, but probably not the kind of movie I'll watch again on DVD or cable or whatever.
(not quite the ringing endorsement you were probably hoping for, Brian :()
Too bad you weren't in the row behind him so you could make large obnoxious comments throughout the movie...
I'm sure you could cleary see what was going on from where the film was being played from. I would have at least thought they would have questioned him after the show but no dice.
Reel? What's a reel?
With most movies being digital, I don't know that a worker even needs to go in and push play. I think their system can tell if someone bought a ticket to a screening, and starts the film automatically.
Saw 10 Cloverfield Lane last night...good flick, taut, well paced...still no clue how it is supposed to tie back to the first movie. ???
The best part was when they offed the stripper with a heart of gold from the first film.
I went and saw The Magnificent Seven last night. One of the best movies I've seen this year.
Blade Runner 2049 Teaser (http://www.ew.com/article/2016/12/19/blade-runner-2049-first-footage-ryan-gosling-harrison-ford)
In a surprise, Netflix acquired Cloverfield sequel "The Cloverfield Particle" which was previously going to be released in theaters as God Particle.
It kind of sucks. I loved the first Cloverfield and loved 10CL but this was a mess, and definitely felt like a "Made for Netflix" movie. I guess it explains why Cloverfield happens, but then goes on to create more questions from there.
How did you see it already?
This blew my head off when I saw the ad, I had no idea they were doing another sequel and I thought it looked amazing. Please God, give us toys! ;D
... I understand why it was done (who wants to watch two avatars playing Joust and acting out War Games?)...
Been a busy few weeks...finally carved out time to see Pacific Rim Uprising. I loved the first one but went in with pretty low expectations this time around, based on early buzz, some of the casting choices, etc. But I thought it was actually surprisingly pretty good. I guess my main complaint is it took awhile to get going, but I thought the overall plot was very clever and I liked a lot of the story avenues they explored. (at least the ones not involving human characters)
Now I feel pretty good about buying more toys too. ;D
Saw Incredibles 2 with the kids the other night. It was just okay, but then again I had read so many glowing reports I was expecting something more.
because my daughter was sobbing for about 90% of the movie due to that ****** up animated short Bao they showed beforehand. >:(
Saw the Lego Movie 2 also. I noticed this is the second animated movie (after Wreck it Ralph 2) wherein the villain is the manifested insecurities of the male protagonist. When did manhood become toxic?
I saw Terminator Dark Fate couple of weeks ago. Not as bad as the internet hate machine made it out to be. I'd rate it average entertainment. On the other hand, it really doesn't justify its existence anymore than Genysis did. The franchise should've stopped after T2.
Plus HBO Max seemed a bit buggy with some bandwidth issues.
