Brent, can you list which team belongs to which person?  I'm unfamiliar with a few.  :-[

True Margarita = my best friend Duane (Scott has met him) who was in last year as Margarita Girl (at least at one point)
Old Cockys = Scott
Canuckleheads = Brent
Vaders Crusaders = Jesse
Blame Canada = Rob
IAMCANADIEN = A guy who races motorcycles for Duane named Danny - he asked to be in last year and since hockey doesn't fill up like football, I let him
Mighty Mildews = Phil, who used to work with me but quit and now works in Saskatchewan.  He was in last year as well

We're currently at 7 and I expect Jeff for sure and then a couple more from here, Ryan at least.

Check that.  One game into the season I lost Markov for four months thanks to a sliced tendon.  I need all my guys now as I only have one spare instead of two.  ::)  I didn't expect him to be the Canadiens leading scorer again, but now he definitely won't be.

Sedin with a bone bruise but foot so swollen they can't do the MRI. DTD.
Wideman with an unknown shoulder injury.  DTD.
Souray with a concussion. DTD.

Are you kidding me?

Ding, ding, ding.  We have a winner. ::)  Doesn't matter now if they put Sedin there or not, my IR slots are full.  3rd, 6th, 9th and 10th round picks are out, two on IR, third headed that way and Wideman has mysteriously no news after three days.  Groan.

3rd, 6th, 9th and 10th round picks are out, two on IR, third headed that way ...

Add my 4th round pick to that mess: Savard out 4-6 weeks with a broken left foot.  Whee!

I propose 4 IR slots next year. ::)

I don't know if any of you picked Gonchar, but he went down in last night's game with St. Louis, didn't come back, and the Pens are off today so no media word I've noticed yet on the outcome.

Just incase anyone picked him and was thinking he was healthy...  he may not be.  :-\

Nix that, he's out 4 to 6 weeks with a broken wrist.  Just FYI.

Post by: Morgbug on October 22, 2009, 12:06 AM
Gee, whadda shock.  He's on my roster.   :'(

That would now make it:

3rd round
4th round
6th round
8th round
9th round

My 10th round pick played tonight for the first time in 10 days.

Both IR spots are full and my three bench spots are taken up by guys on IR as well.  Yippee!

Post by: Jesse James on October 22, 2009, 12:19 AM
Sorry Brent.

The Pens hurt without him too, I figured I'd break the news to whoever since it's not huge hockey news, but it is big locally.  However we've got Goligoski and Letang both this year, and both healthy and playing well, so it's not a HUGE concern to us, yet.

I used to be a huge Gonchar detractor but he's blossomed the last couple years...  I really felt Whitney was the better all around player, but everyone agrees that Gonchar has picked up his defensive play tremendously, plus he's a good leader whereas Whitney was not.

I'm eating humble pie on Gonch now, and it hurts when he goes down because he QB's the powerplay.

Sheesh, without bad luck, you'd have no luck at all Brent.

However we've got Goligoski and Letang both this year, and both healthy and playing well, so it's not a HUGE concern to us, yet.

I just added Goligoski to my roster tonight in hopes that I could find a defenseman who wants to actually score a few points.

He's a beast, and good defensively.

Paul Coffey told one of our announcers last year, "Have you seen that Gologoski kid?  Keep an eye on him, he's one of the best I've ever seen".  And everyone likens him to Coffey though we've not seen it totally yet...  He's stronger defensively than Letang though, and every bit a scorer that he is.

Just another day in paradise.  Look in this morning to see I'm dropping like a stone, which comes as no surprise.  But the best part?  Yeah....#1 pick Alexander Semin is listed as DTD.  Now it could be minor, but do you really think I believe that right now? :-\

Three weeks into the season these picks are either IR or have missed games on DTD status:
1st round
3rd round
4th round
6th round
8th round
9th round
10th round

Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Hockey Pool 2009-10
Post by: Morgbug on October 27, 2009, 04:05 PM
With respect to the IR stuff, yahoo can't do anything until the team actually puts them on to the IR first.  If Atlanta doesn't make the move, yahoo won't either.  There's never really a clear explanation of why a team does or does not, though there is some suggestion it relates to salary cap issues.

Gonchar for example isn't on IR even though he's now been out for a week and still not on IR, not that it makes a bit of difference for me as I have no room in the Inn anyway (I'm actually pleased with his injury, if that's possible, because he's still skating in practice so should be in game shape when he returns).  But the same happened with Sedin as he sat out for about a week with a broken foot and wasn't even listed as DTD.  Souray at least made sense as they didn't know how long he'd be out because concussions are notoriously hard to diagnose.

Sorry for your loss on Kovy, but if you have any IR questions, I can probably answer them. ::)

And Ovechkin too?  That could be ugly for his owner, even for only a couple weeks.

Just another day in paradise.

Heh.  Some time later and three days after getting Souray back from IR (3 assists and +2 in two games), Alexander Semin goes on IR.  So he's been DTD this year already and now IR finally.

Currently on IR:

1st round
3rd
4th
8th
9th

Yippee.

It would appear to be more of a case of transfereance as opposed to contagion now.  I've only got two guys on IR, Markov and Semin and the latter should be off fairly shortly, though I'm suspicious he may be made of glass.

I honestly don't know what to do with all of these guys.  :o

I've given up on Tim Thomas - what a change from a year ago.  Go Bruins.  ::)

And I'm just about ready to send Kiprusoff packing too.  But I'll hold on a while longer and see if the big trade shakes things up enough to get him some offensive support so he can actually win a few games again.

This should be an interesting last couple days -- Brent, you think you can catch the Mighty Mildews?  Pretty amazing considering this ****** luck you had with injuries.

Truthfully, no.  I think I'm a day or two short of pulling it off.  I've got the games, but not enough time in the regular season, barring a miracle, to pull it off.  I'm disappointed, but alternately impressed that I got that close.   Having Green skip 3 games at the end of the season as a healthy scratch is irritating, but no more so than the mistakes I made listening to Yahoo with respect to players like Green and Semin that I left on the bench for five point nights because they "weren't due back yet".  That's no different than anyone else faced, so it is what it is.

I'll definitely admit I feel I got hammered by injuries, but that's part of fantasy sports.  I lost so many games that I actually cannot use them all up which is kind of amazing when you see how many guys in the pool have used them up.  At the same time you look at Rob in fantasy basketball and having lost Arenas to a stupid, utterly stupid, suspension (well, suspension good, his behaviour bad) and he'll still win the league so what's there to complain about?   Other guys lost guys too, so as above, it is what it is.  I think it'll be cool to see what happens at 3rd spot but me winning, nope.

Post by: Rob on April 10, 2010, 01:45 PM
I got my eye on that third spot the other day but I think with the shut-out that Scott got last night he'll be able to hang on.  I screwed up by not paying enough attention here at the end.  When I was sitting in 7th I thought I was completely done and didn't bother to realize that the guys ahead of me were a) all close in the standings and b) almost out of games whereas I had plenty left.

I'm trying to squeeze as many games out of the last few days as possible, but I think 4th is the best I'll be able to do unless Scott flops from here out and my team over-performs.

Congrats guys.

3-4-5 were super close... I really ****** up by not paying attention the last few weeks.  I think I could have made better use of those last games and probably came up with a trophy.

Regardless, congrats again.

Wow.  I really didn't expect that to happen.  I would suggest 50 moves is a few too many and I can't believe I couldn't actually make it to use up all the games I had left.  Very pleased to win that though, so thanks for the congrats.  8)

I think that was a great year, though it sure looked like the Mildews had it wrapped up to the point of me thinking about an Ovechkin rule akin to the Gretzky rule of old.

I thought Rob was going to make it but good end run.  Congrats to Scott for holding on for third though, as Rob said, 3-5 was amazingly close.  I guess Rob will have to console himself with basketball.

Maybe not.  The more I look at those numbers the more I think you can win if a few things break your way.
